Great start on the rigging John, as usual you have done a fine job . Keep up the good work we all know the rigging is the hard but fun part of any build....well parts of it anyways....lol
Thank you very much my friend!!! It is hard though but also it makes the ship very beautiful!!!
Very nice, John. I always have to laugh when you say "it will be difficult" because then you make it look easy with your craftmanship.
Thank you very much Michael!!! I try to demonstrate the steps as simple as i can. I know that everybody knows that it is not as easy as i show it. :)
Hi John & Wolf... the ship looks amazing without you starting the rigging. Have or do you ever use beeswax on the cottons to stop the fluffy look.
I think you could supervise the rigging of a full sized ship, you knowledge is amazing
Thank you very much for your kind words Keith!!! I do not like wax because of the residue that leaves behind.
Before I started watching your videos I was under the mistaken impression that all the ropes were simply needed for the ladders and the raising and lowering of sails. This video illustrates the vital role that ropes played as an integral component of the structure of the ship. Maybe they shouldn't be called " Wooden Ships", but rather "Wood and Rope Ships". The stresses on a ship's masts must be enormous during full sail, gusty conditions. Although I'm highly impressed with the amount of time and skill you demonstrate it takes to build these ships, my biggest takeaway is your graphically showing how complicated the design of these ships truly were. For many, many centuries the building of these ships was the cutting edge of technology and a huge investment for a given nation. You are educating me in a way that no book or film on the subject ever could. For this I thank you!
I am speechless by your comment Mark! I really love it, i cannot thank you enough for all your kind words and i can tell you that comments like this one makes me very happy because i try to demonstrate what i do as simple as i can. Thank you again!!!
@@JohnsWoodenShips I totally agree with his comment it is an echo of how I feel about your channel, its great!
Yes making the ratlines is tedious, but I do enjoy making the rest of the rigging, and hanging the sails. It’s hard, but it really makes the ship, complete and absolutely beautiful!
I agree Bill, it is the hardest part of the build but also the most beautiful one!
Need a slow knot tying lesson please. One with the most used knots. I struggle with this. Please?
Check out in all my series or the latest ones like the HMS Victory, the rigging procedure, bowsprit, mast , yards ,sails standing and running rigging.
@@JohnsWoodenShips Thanks John . Will have a good forage😊
Hi ! John & Wolf, I was wondering if you ever considered more realistic rope diameters than was supplied with the kit?
Hi John! Yes i have but it is hard to find the color and thickness you need and also it would make it very hard in some points to get it through the blocks.
like you say she looks amazing. Did order my next build going to follow you "La Candelaria". this is scheduled to start next summer.
She does! We will enjoy the building of La Candelaria together!!!
I have developed a real passion for making model ships since completing my Beagle. Your tutorial videos have been informative and inspirational. Thank you, John.
Thank you for your kind words Buck!!! I can tell you that when you build your first "big" one you will feel like you have conquer the world!!!
@@JohnsWoodenShips The Occre Montanes will be my next build.
You are going to love this one!
Wow. That is just fantastic!
Thank you very much Keran!!!
Hi John, no disrespect of your excellent work, but the fore stay & preventer stay should be two separate ropes, so in the event of one or the other failing, the mast remains secured. But as you say :-"You do it your way, I'll do it mine". I'm managing to keep up with you on my build of her. Best wishes Stuart
Thank you Stuart! Didn't know that :)
@@JohnsWoodenShips You're welcome John. OcCre does lack some finer details at times, so I use Lennarth Petersson's book for reference. By the way, I did see the problem with the boats, so left mine to be fitted later.
@@stuartlittle62 You are lucky :) It made my work hard and i did regret placing those boats before i make the ladders.
@@stuartlittle62 What's the name of the book?

I begin to fall in love with her !💞
Wait until the sails are on :)
Good morning John. I am starting the masts on the Albatross tomorrow. Bounty is just sitting and waiting on the shelf.
In the beginning of part 38 Rigging the Masts on Bounty you mention it can be hard to see if camera is too far away. Thank you for moving the camera closer. I would like to make a sugestion that would make it even easier for everyone to see the rigging. Put down a white background such as an old sheet on a clean table. This would hi-light every rope as it went up.
Just my thoughts. Which boat are you building now? The Victory from Billing? Have you decided what your next build is going to be? I would rather watch your videos than a good movie. Keep up the good work.🙂 Dennis
Hi Dennis! It is hard to put up a white cloth, i have to move the ship around and i usually have photos or plans in front of the mirror cause i need them :) I am building the Victory for the last 6 months now and still have a long way to go. I do not know what i will build next. I am glad that you like my videos! Thank you very much!!!
@@JohnsWoodenShips I am most interested in your setup. You 've set up a mirror, pictures and instructions to help you build. If it's not asking too much. I would be interested in pics and the thought process as to how you came up with your setup. (secrets of the trade??)
@@dennistrue6473 Nothing special, i just want to have as many photos and schematics available at all times during the build. It's easier to take a look when you need to see some details.
