The video is an interview of Sgt. Martinez who served in the 4th Marine Division. Sgt. Martinez fought on Roi-Namur, Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima where he served as a platoon leader. This video is about his Iwo Jima experiences and more will come in the future. The amount of combat Sgt. Martinez has survived is unbelievable and really makes a person believe in a higher being. Sgt. Martinez is a GIANT who took risks time and time again to protect his men and I feel like an ant in his presence!
We are on a mission to interview all the WWII combat veterans of the ALLIED COUNTRIES! Please contact us at info@rememberww2.org if you know any veterans!

I met a 99 year old soldier who fought on IWO still moving around. He said in order to stay alive one could not stay in one spot for any length of time if one wanted to stay alive.Had to keep on moving .Always moving. And up to the day I met him he said he has never slowed down. And he was a busy old soldier .God bless him and every soldier who served in ww2.

The tragedy is that once these men are gone, the details of everything they experienced are also gone. These videos are an important part of history. My father fought with the infantry on Okinawa and passed away about 16 years ago. He didn't like to talk about his experience, but I will always regret not recording everything he shared so that it could be passed to future generations.

My Grandfather was a WWII US Navy Veteran. He manned the Higgins boat that brought these men to the Pacific shores. He was an Amphib, which means he would fight side by side with the Marines until the beach was clear. He too saw terrible things. He spoke highly and respectfully of these Marines. As I got older, he told me how proud he was of me. That simple sentence justified my existence. Men like this are a rare and dying breed. Thank you Sgt. Martinez. Thank you Grandpa.

:Unfortunately men and women such as Sgt. Martinez and the story of the bravery displayed by these "ordinary" men and women always fades away. General MacArthur said "old soldiers never die, they just fade away", and the memories of these men do just fade away. It's great to give these men the respect and honor they deserve while they are still ALIVE !! Don't wait........that's all. Give them the roses while they can see and smell them.

    Silver star citation:
The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Manuel P. Martinez (MCSN: 831123), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as a Rifle Platoon Sergeant of Company K, Third Battalion, Twenty-fifth Marines, FOURTH Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands, 12 March 1945. When mortar fire from a hostile cave inflicted heavy casualties on our forces, Sergeant Martinez volunteered to lead a patrol deep into enemy territory and, after approaching the fortification from the rear, attacked and destroyed the Japanese strong point with demolitions. Subsequently discovering another cave harboring a number of enemy, he deployed his men in a grenade attack and, after entering the cave alone, killed fifteen Japanese troops. His outstanding courage and leadership were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
Bull Hudson’s words are fitting for this giant of a man. “ Manuel Martinez was the bravest most courageous person I have ever known. A true hero and a patriot.” And that’s how he always will be remembered.

The courage, bravery, and selflessness of those men is amazing and not talked about enough. They are all the true heroes of the USA. I often sit and think of our past warriors, often crying and wondering, where would we be without them?

My uncle Mickey fought in Korea he was one hell of a man stood about 6 ft 6 and he told me stories he told me of a story where he was watching the trail where three trails come into one and he said he seen a North Korean officer with two regulars with him and he was watching in the officer had a Colt 45 Long pistol in his belt and he knew the only way he could have got that was to kill somebody of high ranking in the US military I said what did you do uncle he said I slipped out onto that trail real quietly raised my Grand up whistle and when they looked up their eyes were biggest softer I said what'd you do Uncle Mickey said I dropped all three of them and I went and got that Colt 45 Long out of that officer belt but he said his most memorable time is when he first got in country he was placed behind a tank to direct fire he said he's seen a guy up on the hill waving at him is what he thought until the round started hitting around him and he realized he was shooting at him I said what'd you do Uncle Mickey he said I called that tank on that wired phone they turn their turn around and blowey blew that sucker up then they sent him up there to recon him and see what he had I said what happened he said well I got up there and he had some information and it was childtime so he got to see rats out didn't have a place to sit cuz everything was muddy so he just rolled that old gook over and sat on him had him a nice dry seat I said that's pretty cold uncle he said that might have been cold but it wasn't as cold as that guy was after he was killed and then he proceeded to tell me what he messed up one day is a hot summer day and he wasn't going to sit on the ground so he found a big fat gook rode him over and sat on him and he said he popped on him said he smelt like gook for a week sadly my uncle Mickey has passed away it's been a few years now but I still remember the stories that he told me one I'll never forget was that he volunteered did a year in service in country they put him on the ship to go home out in the middle of the ocean they met another ship to receive mail for the man said somebody called out his name so he came forward and they said oh you've been drafted so they sent him back to Korea for another year and they were at fault because if you volunteered they could not draft you after your service so after he fought another year in Korea he came home he was having some health problems later on and he went to the VA for help oh we're not going to help you you only served one year then his wife my Aunt Janie told him well you know he did two years right one year he volunteered and the other he was drafted they said which came first he volunteered first they had a hissy fit they gave him full benefits which he deserved may God bless all veterans may God bless America may we all know how to kneel so we can stand in the presence of our Lord amen

I sent a Happy Birthday letter to him, expressed my utmost Gratitude and asked what I’m about to type (if he knew my grandfather)My grandfather Stanley Carlton Boyce he fought in the Marines 3rd marine division on Iwo Jima he was a medic, please if you can ask any of these veterans if they knew him and to talk about him I never got to meet him ,he passed away before I was born and my grandma committed suicide before I was born, the war was rough, please ask, because many aren’t alive and those ones who are will give me some spirit and something about my grandfather I can remember because no one talks about it,I’d appreciate it soooo much man,and THANK you for these videos, never forget, they for real have to know him,if you wanna do it just for a video, the man was known by everyone and was very influential ,just let me know I’d appreciate it,even a comment back letting me know you heard the name Boyce or a story with him or anyone in the comments have any grandparents who knew him? I’d appreciate it!!❤️❤️💯

As a mature zoomer young man myself born in 1998 from Lakemba, New South Wales, Australia I am extremely grateful for all the selfless men in the past who fought honourably in every war to try to make the world a better place. I would always cherish them in my heart and never forget them. I cannot even begin to imagine the fear and the pain they have experienced absolutely depressing. That is why I will always appreciate my life because I am very lucky that I never had to experience the horrors of war. As human beings we should all follow the three principles of life compassion, empathy and love to have a more perfect union.

Thank you for creating this video. Although I don't know the details, I have a feeling that the research, outreach, planning, production and post production required for each individual video is a huge amount of time. And even after all that it may not turn out to be great. You have consistently turned out GREAT videos! And this is no exception, and of course GREAT THANKS go to Sgt. Manuel Martinez!!
