      Your ideas are good but a good player will not play Knight c3 Instead they play Bishop d2 and the game goes in a different variation here.

    @17:34, after a lot of thinking, I settled on Rxe2. Then I looked up the actual game (Marinus Kuijf vs. Julian Hodgson, 1989), and Black played the spectacular Qb3! Thanks for the great video!

      Thanks for looking that up, I wouldn't have seen that move. Obviously axb3 leads to Nxb3# and Qxa5 leads to Qc2#, and the threat is Qxa2 I believe for Qxb1# or if white covers mate, Nb3+ wins the queen.

      Qb3 is something I thought of, but what if white do not capture her by the pawn, but instead blocks the bishop by bishop, or do any other move that do not break the defence? It seems black will eventually loose some material 🤔

      @@Abukrat The threats remain even after Bd3. Black continues as planned with Qxa2 and white can’t take the black Bishop since the fork Nb3+ stil threatens the white Queen. What’s next as white?

    Some observations:-
    1. After 3...e6, white can play d4 just as in the 3...c6 line. While transposing into an Exchange French is not particularly bad for black, it is probably not what you are looking for if choosing this type of gambit.
    2. Only examining the 4th best move (d4) at the start of the variation seems to me to be disingenuous. 5. Be2 is the move that scores best at all levels but Nf3 and d3 are both moves that are more challenging than the immediate d4.
    3. In the main d4 line, the video fails to mention the better scoring variation: e4 d5; ed Nf6; c4 e6; de Bxe6; d4 Bb4+; Bd2 Qe7; Be2.
    4. Even in the line given with 7. Bxb4, it again fails to mention the very high scoring move 10. Be2 (e4 d5; ed Nf6; c4 e6; de Bxe6; d4 Bb4+; Bd2 Qe7; Bxb4 Qxb4+; Qd2 Qe7; Qe3 Nc6; Be2).
    Players should go into dubious lines understanding what they are committing themselves to. You should not go into opening theory expecting your opponent to play as a beginner because if your opponent is that much weaker than you you should be able to win playing something completely sound. Trappy and offbeat lines can be a useful strategy but do it knowing the type of position you get if your opponent reacts properly. Guides that purport to show how to win quickly as black and fail to show the correct moves for the opponent are dangerous for your chess development and should be avoided.

    • @echtwelzo
      @echtwelzo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah exactly, white plays Nf3, Be2, 0-0, Nc3 and d3 (not d4) and black has insufficient compensation.
      Also, 3…c6 is not “still playable” but transposes to main line Caro-Kan stuff and objectively better than e6.

    So many assumptions are wrong . For example the move of c4 or d4 after sacrificing the first pawn is five. But playing with several people and computers, the check is actually NEVER countered by Knight but by bishop to d2 - and threatening black's bishop.

      Horse to C3
      Black Queen to B3

      I can move king if bishop on G6 takes or I can move if it doesn't take or just move horse back to B1.

      If you move D7 horse to C5 to threaten bishop on D3 I take your bishop on G6.

    (ONE)
    1. .... R x e2, then if...
    2. Q x b4, R c2 #
    BUT, white queen is NOT obligated to capture black queen on move 2.
    Correct 2nd move is: 2. Q x e2 rook. In this case there is NO mate in near future.
    ( TWO )
    1. ..... Q b3, and IF
    2. a x b3, then N x b3 #
    But this also fails, as White is NOT obligated to capture Bkack's queen on b3. The correct response for White is 2. Q c3. This allows thw White's king escape through the vacated d2 square.
    (I put this through a chess engine and it did find a forced win for Black... in 42 moves!!!)

      First option Rxe2 is not good for black, since Qxe2 destroy black’s attack with material advantage (the Bishop trade for Rook). So the continuation is the second option Qb3. After your 2.Qc3 white lose for free the Bishop with Rxe2, because if 3.Qxb3 then Nxb3+ 4.axb3 Rc2#.

    Advice from 15:50 seems to be a blunder. In this position white can trade queens and then take a bishop with a pawn, and it's game over for black, isn't it ?

    In the bonus line Ng5+ is pretty annoying though, how do you deal with it ? I stopped taking this pawn with the king when the knight is out.

    The puzzle took me a while to solve because I am really not that good. It is a genius Queen clearance sacrifice- Qb3. Pawn takes and the Knight checkmates on b3. Any other move an Qxa2, and the same thing can happen. The castling of white was just too reckless

    • @abysswatcher4907
      @abysswatcher4907 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can also take the bishop with your rook, and checkmate with it if your opponent takes your queen. Or if your opponent takes your rook you can simply bring your other knight over and the game will end soon.

    No to good opening dont teach people your variation to get more views any one above 1200 rating wil not allow you to plan your tactics. I wonder how a being a grandmaster you teach such horrible tactics

    • @fayskelley
      @fayskelley 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don’t think Igor teaches only tactics but rather how to analyze your way through a game no matter what your opponent does. That’s why it takes ten years to get anywhere near good whether it’s chess, figure skating, golf or karate. If having a black belt was easy … everyone would have one. If being a grandmaster was easy … everybody would be one.
      PS. Igor is one of the few TH-camrs who doesn’t use bait-click titles. How refreshing. I’m grateful for the volumes of free advice for the past 8 years. 🩷

    This video deepened my fondness for the scandanavian, and I have been playing it a lot lately with slow but definite improvement. However, I have to say, if I have played it 30 times, white has NEVER gone with pawn to D4, opening the diagonal for my dark square bishop/check. Is this normal - maybe its because i am 1100-1160 player right now?
    I just wanted to share that, bit also to say again that I love this video and this line/gambit..
    Thank you for all that you do, sir!

  • @vros14
    @vros14 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is the move at 17:27 Qb2? If white takes with pawn, Nb2 is check-mate because of black's white bishop. If Qxa4, Qc2 is checkmate. If black plays Nc3, QxA2, NxA2, Nb3 is checkmate again. Seems to me even in the best case scenario white haves to give up the queen.

    I can never be a true chess player. I did not see QxN followed by NxP check forking the king and queen. It should have been obvious, but I could only see that QxN as a loss of material. I am a passive number cruncher. Chess is for aggressive players.

  • @MT.5711

    min. 8,10 after QxNe2 in place of KxQe2 and then the knight forking, what about Kc3!?.
    Can black save the Queen?
    Thank you.

  • @huwwiliams8426
    @huwwiliams8426 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Maybe play ph6 first; to enable an escape for the bishop in case white plays Kf4; the bishop is needed to dominate the c2 square in front of the king.
    Then Qc5 followed by Kb6. C4 could not be defended by white.
    A black night would end up in c4 pressuring the white queen if it was still there) and threatening check mate by the black queen on on b2.
    If this can be avoided by white at all, the black rooks would prove devastating in the next few moves.

    i don't understand why you never address what to do when white simply moves pawn to h6 to make black move bishop maybe back to h4- and then white would move pawn to g5- thus forcing bishop out of that whole "aggressive" opening- strangely not too many of these tutorials ever address that
