In January, 1973 I camped on top of Emery Peak. The Federales now probably prohibit such a thing, but it was remarkable. As soon as it got dark the wind began to howl as a result of the temperature differential between the desert floor and the mountain. Hardly slept, just peaked out of the sleeping bag (no tent_ while holding it shut with both hands to keep the wind out... then a meteorite lit up the sky. Most beautiful I've ever seen. I was 22 at the time, now 66 and remember it like it was last night.
