Samoa Tsunami: Saleapaga Village

Saleapaga Village lost over 30 of its residents in the 2009 Samoa tsunami. In the aftermath of the disaster, most of the village relocated into the mountains, completely rebuilding their lives from scratch. Anauli Karima Fai'ai went to see how they've been doing over the last 10 years.

I was there at Saleapaga before, during and afterwards organising assistance from Rotary International and other Australian charities. Received containers with tools, chainsaws and non perishable food as well. We have approached then PM for a new road, water supplies, MNRE desister relief for mosquito nets, lime for toilets and daily supply of fresh water. This we did for two months after tsunami. Who pocket the funds? Bear in mind that all international financial help totaled over 369millions of dollars. Lalomanu, Saleapaga and Poutasi suffered the most damage yet each family affected received 20,000 Tala having total claims for 326 families.
