      It is a collection that took many years to put together. I hit what I call critical mass about 10 years ago. That was where I could hook any thing I wanted and I had the right wool on the shelf.

    If one wants to make a 6 ' x 9' rug, how do you get backing that you don't have to piece together for that size since most backing is 60" wide?

    • @rughooking
      @rughooking  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I now sell 75" wide rug warp. Since what you want to hook is 72", you would have to sew on excess fabric at the edges to make the backing sit comfortably on your frame. To accomodate the 9' length, buy 4 yards (I sell the rug warp in full yard increments.)

    Is it true that rug weave is best for #5 cut or under? I think my strips might be a bit bigger, should I still use rug weave?

    • @rughooking
      @rughooking  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you meant rug warp, you can hook any size in that. Often the people who are quoting that you can only hook up to a 5 have never tried the other cuts. I use up to a #9. I don't often use 8.5 or 9, my favorite cut size is a #7. That hooks nicely in rug warp.

  • @irmalybrackin4048

    Burlap is only 3.99 a yard. Monks cloth is used as a backing on most large tufted rugs. It will last a long time with a fiber glue backing.

      The "backings" you can buy at a fabric store are not intended for rug hooking. You will not get your best product. Why skimp on backing, even expensive linen at $30 a yard when the wool your are buying to make the rug costs hundreds of dollars?

    • @rughooking
      @rughooking  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can see my initial set up here: cindigayrughooking.com/how-to-hook-large-rug/ The only change is that I screwed a 1/4 sheet of plywood to the bottom by drilling up from the bottom into the feet of my stand. That is really all I needed. You do not need a large frame because your arm is only so long, right?

    • @ea.g
      @ea.g 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rughooking Thank you for the reply! So you use some sort of metal podium. Interesting! Is this the only way you've seen people hook a large rug besides stretching the cloth over some stretcher bars?

    • @rughooking
      @rughooking  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ea.g Not sure what you are asking. Most rug hooking frames have gripper strips that hold the rug tight from below. You only need a surface large enough to work on, not large enough for the entire rug.
