- We put Viva, Costco Kirkland Signature, Great Value and Bounty to the durability test. You can see how each brand stands up so that you don't waste your hard-earned money on flimsy products. We cut the paper towel sheets to be the same size, wet them, then placed quarters onto each Viva, Kirkland Signature, Great Value and Bounty sheet until the weight broke each one.

Nice comparison. A few other tests would have helped like absorbency, but this is convincing enough. Appreciate it!!!
Test the BOULDER brand from Aldi.....PRETTY DARN good & quite quite close to Bounty.....VERY close.......PLUS, WAAAY cheaper!, I use those now, since almost half a yr......I have 1 pack of 12 = 20, each pack of 6 > 3-4 $ each > = 3-4 maybe 5 days plus if you don't overuse paper & re-use some, the pack of 12=20 (less than $11) > 4-6 days each, maybe more.......I have for 3.5 months, maybe more......& spent ONLY around $17-18 for them.....instead of way more than double on Bounty.......My 2nd fav. is Brawny, I also like TOTAL HOME, but I keep Boulder.........VERY similar to Bounty & WAAAY cheaper = BIG WINNER!.

In the 1970's they used a China set of a coffee cup and saucer. The cup container coffee. No Bounty at the time. The commercial called it the "VIVA Test." It turned into slang for us kids when we wetre bored we would say, "I know, let's do the VIVA Test!"

Viva is more absorbent than Bounty though and when on a roll Viva is also way tighter on there so not only cheaper but also more for your money too. And soft enough to be used as facial tissues as well. They can be wrung out and reused. I haven't found lint either. I just bought a 6 pack of Bounty tonight but also grabbed a single roll of Viva and I am already sold. However..I hear good things about Brawny too.

It's an interesting comparison but how is this test supposed to be of benefit to us the consumer. Most paper towels are used to wipe things like spilled liquid. It would be more beneficial to compare how much liquid can each one soak. Thanks.

All i know is that Bounty Papertowels have become DISGUSTING for me to use! Papertowels are supposed to be helping us to keep clean and safe as we use them to clean in our homes along with our cleaning products. Yet i cannot even begin to count as of this year, how many times have i opened a roll only to find various DISGUSTING Brown or Black Spots throughout the roll. And now TODAY i find a big reddish spot clearly on the top of a roll. That was the final straw for me. i am for sure going to a different brand Ugh! Here we are using cleaning solutions throughout our homes/and business's to kill bacteria's and virus's etc ... Only to next wipe up that same area with a Contaminated with who knows what on it PAPERTOWEL?! ... NO MORE FOR ME! AND EVEN ON THEIR VERY OWN BOUNTY COMMERCIALS HERE IN TH-cam I NOTICE THEY HAVE THEIR (COMMENT) SECTIONS TURNED OFF. HMMM I WONDER WHY? .... MAYBE BECAUSE THEY ARE AFRAID THAT SOMEONE MAY COMMENT IN REGARDS TO THIS DISGUSTING ISSUE?!
Jubilee is the worst paper towel. It is unusable! It would literally dissolve when it touches water.
I am a faithful Viva paper towel user and I refuuuuse to believe that Bounty is better!
The Bounty paper towel did not appear to be wet. I think someone is cheating! *hmph*

It doesn't look wet because it is so much more absorbent that it spreads out the water much faster and further on the paper towel. If you watch the video again, look up near the persons hands that is holding the paper towel to actually see the water line (it was much lower on most of the other brands). You can also very clearly see the light glinting off the water on the paper towel in several of the shots.
I've never used VIVA, but in my experience and based on the multiple reviews I have watched for paper towels, Bounty consistently out performs all of the other brands I have ever seen it put up against for strength. Its possible it may not be the best in other categories, but it consistently wins in strength, and is usually one of if not the fastest absorbing towel as well. The only other brand that I have really seen get close to Bounty was Brawny which only performed slightly under Bounty.
It does sound like you are simply unhappy that your particular brand didn't win. Instead of being upset, I would recommend simply trying out Bounty and seeing how you like it. It may be more expensive than some of the others, but in my experience it has been unarguably the best.
I have gone through phases where I have used Viva for years and then Bounty for years. I knew the challenge would come down to those two. VIVA feels more cloth like to me but unfortunately Viva sheds (more now than years ago) but Bounty does not shed at all. Neither one is quite as good as they used to be, but they are both still better than just about everything else out there imho.
