my husband and i just purchased a house, and we were wondering how we can update our lighting about the island without having to call the electrician. @ajsflsh007 No, they do not. This particular pendant light converts a recessed light to a pendant. We also sell pendant lights that attach to exhisting light boxes in the ceiling.

My reccess light hole is round shaped and big and the pendant light which i have ordered has oval shaped canopy and doesn’t cover the hole . Please how to fix ?

In my case my sockets are loose. Pop the downlight out and it's a loose socket that screws into the adapter on the downlight. So I can't hang a pendant from the socket. What are my options for converting to a pendant?
K this is probably the BEST advice I have had for a solution to the poor as kitchen lighting in my rental. Problem is in Australia, we have a habit of naming things differently, I need one of the screw in sockets for the cord. I can't seem to find one anywhere *crying loudly* ... Just about all of the packages I can find here, have plates that go directly over the socket then you screw it in with the socket surround (similar to the nut you used). If they don't have that, then they're a hard wired process only...

Recessed lighting has a wire that attaches the outer lip to the light. Adjusting this wire will sometimes pull the lip flush with your ceiling. Thanks for visiting the Lowe's TH-cam channel. -Lowe's

Well this was the first step in my kitchen remodel. Next is upgrade to Quartz or Granite counter tops, stainless steel appliances, frosted glass pantry doors, paint, change hardware on cabinets and perhaps change the cabinets to doors to glass fronts.

except not all canopies are big enough to cover the bucket light hole, and what do you do when you only have 1 bucket light but need more than 1 pendant so it doesn't look weird? It's impossible to find multiple pendant lights on a bar or canopy that is large enough to cover the bucket light hole
This contraption like $40 at Lowes; you can build it yourself for about two bucks. All you need is a light socket and some lamp chord (plus the new light fixture of course).

can we use any pendant light shades with this kit or only the ones that are the same brand as the kit?

Anthony White no, I’m trying to install pendants now that does not have an adapter. It’s just raw wire so I don’t know what they are talking about. I guess I’m going to have to go buy an adapter... well I hope they make them!!
My can insert does not support the weight of the pendent since it is held in place with clips.

None of the canopies that come with the lights fit over the hole! And I can't find any bigger canopies! Getting so frustrated. My hole is like 7 inches and the canopy is 5 inches...grrrrrrr
my recessed light fixture (the plastic white part) isn't completely flush it's the kind that bowes, so the canopy won't mount flush to my ceiling, any suggestions for a fix for this?
Well turning off the breaker is unnecessary Because you don't have to wire it but screw it in The light socket... 1st of all turning off the switch And it's just like Screwing in light bulb and it's much more safer than doing wiring But basically you don't need to turn off the breaker
So what if the pendant light has wires instead of a screw tip?

What holds the canopy in place? Unless it's attached to the can or a box (or the ceiling somehow), it will fall back out and dangle from the excess wire.
Where did you buy the pendant with a male end??? rather than add a box to the recessed light?

Yeah well not all pendants light have a 10" or 12" canopy to cover the recess. Need to see how to do it with pendant with a 4" pendant

No, this is merely a conversion if a can light was originally installed. A octagon box would have been roughed in a new construction if a pendant was planned. Wires would have been pulled to the box for the pendant lights to be connected to.
@@Golfzilla1961 I wish they would have taken this opportunity to show how you wire a pendant to a conversion kit. That's what's confusing. They skipped over that completely.

ok........ I bought these about a year ago.....spent over $200 on the kits and the pendants.....still can't install.... I have called the manufacturer, who is unbelievably rude....gone to Lowes numerous times asking for help.....still NO lights....they are just hanging there and will not go flush to the ceiling...I give up!

This is soooo not right. You do not use a socket to support a light fixture plus the trim. Is there a load rating on that product, or at least limitations ? Me, licensed commercial electrician, 35 + years. but go ahead, do it.

Why are peopl always so adamant about switching power off at the breaker, it's a switch same as the wall switch just switch it off at the wall it's much simpler
I think only because they're afraid someone will come and switch on the light. No one's going to the breaker so it IS safer to turn it off there.
Not true. I recently changed a light fixture and when the switch was off but the breaker was on, I got a tingling shock that I didn’t expect. There is still a little bit of electricity in there I swear!
