I'm a healthy teenager, so I'm not worried about me getting sick, I'm worried about me having the disease without realizing it and having no symptoms, then passing it on to vulnerable people who could possibly die from it. I mean, I live with my elderly nan, so I'm mostly worried about her, she pretends she isn't worried and is insisting that I stay with her instead of moving back in with my parents, but I can't help the anxiety that she could get it.
Edit: By the way, thank you for the lovely informative video, stay safe, sorry about the anxious rambling xxx

@@ajbaker-lz8jn At first I was worried about myself, I had this crazy idea that if I had it, people in suits would take me and put in quarantine in hospital or something, but now I've done a bit more research, I see that it won't affect me nearly as bad as it would to vulnerable people, so I'm more concerned about them than I am myself

The fresh air part doesn't really make that much sense, other than that a high humidity makes the viral droplets drop to the ground faster. The sun part is more interesting, as the sun is known to be the best naturally occurring disinfectant, for things like surfaces, if said surfaces are exposed to direct sunlight long enough. This doesn't replace proper hygiene, hand washing and hand sanitiser, but it's very handy to hang clothes out to dry (if you're not allergic to things like pollen).

This is excellent advice. I just want to add something extra:
Everyone needs to be improving their hygiene right now but DO NOT ASSUME IT'S ALWAYS THAT EASY to people in the comments. Some neurodivergent people will be struggling due to things like executive dysfunction, difficulty changing habits, having triggers which might relate to cleanliness for example cleanliness related OCD(there are other types of OCD). Personally I have trouble keeping my things and room as clean as possible and contact from members of the family I cut off is triggering me, and having grown up with a mum who constantly cleaned and who was abusive towards me as well as a dad who hoarded and whose house would severely trigger my hayfever/dust allergies and was also abusive to us if we tried to clean it, I've ended up with pretty erratic energy for these sorts of things. This isn't an excuse because I wash my hands thoroughly including wrists every time before and after going out now, distance myself, don't use public transport and basically only go out for food. But when people are spreading advice, if you add too much beyond that you should keep in mind that your advice is not possible for everyone, and it will also be a very triggering time for some neurodivergent or mentally ill people.

Hi there! I work at a small hardware store, and this morning we had a local * hospital * call us to see if we had face masks in stock. Thankfully we had a tiny collection of some extra R95 masks for them, but that's really concerning! Please don't buy any face masks if you don't NEED them! And chances are you don't. Similar things with hand sanitizer and gloves- they're useful, but regularly washing your hands and being careful about social distancing and what you touch is more important. Please leave these items for vulnerable populations, and only take what you need! If you're in an area that's starting to implement a shelter-at-home procedure, I know it's not heavily monitored, but take that seriously. Only get the essentials, and plan out your trip beforehand. Many stores will pack your items up and leave them at the front to expedite your visit, so give them a call beforehand! Thank you for reading, and stay safe! ♥️

I also don‘t hoard stuff I don‘t need while simultaniously trying to prepare for when they „lock us in“ or when I might get sick so I don‘t use ressources people worse off than me might need!
just, be kind to yourself and others, and try to be selfreliant if you can so those who can‘t will not be left behind!

@@boldanabrasevic3020 that's not entirely true. Temperature HAS an effect on the spread of diseases, on different levels. I.e. the seasonal flu and the common cold are fare less prevalent in the summer months, but is seems warmer temperatures will NOT have a big effect on the spread of covid-19... sadly.
Some reasons why warmer weather slows the spread of infections: People are not as tightly packed, but spread out a bit more, esp. outside. This makes it harder for the virus to get from person to person. Also: the warmer it is the faster some viruses (i. e. covid-19) will become inactive (they will "die" faster). Not by a lot, but only by a little.
covid-19 dies fast if it dries out. So in droplets it will "survive" longer and in warm weather the droplets will dry faster, so the virus will die faster. Not by a lot but by a little bit.

8:28 "Yes, I'm going to keep playing that."
The timing of that statement was spot on; I had just thought you were overdoing it, and wondered if you going to play it every chance you got.

Hello, I am a relatively young person with autoimmune disorders and a health condition that flares up when I get a cold and even with a normal cold I may end up in the hospital. The fact that many people in my life have mentioned that only old people will be killed scares me both because I am at risk and in high school and also, old people are important people who we don’t want to die?

I just love everything about you!!
I didn't know your illnesses involved temperature control. I was sick for a year, and my temp was not regulating and it was honestly the most uncomfortable thing I've ever felt!! It's so beyond even that those words aren't enough.
My whole body was sick out was the worst year of my life! I don't know how you do it! Any of it! I didn't leave my bed unless I ABSOLUTELY had to. TMI: I felt so bad I would hold my pee ALL DAY so I didn't have to get up. It was bad. It also greatly affected my mental health. I would just lay in bed and cry for hours. I couldn't even IMAGINE living the rest of my life like that. Right before I got my diagnosis I had a conversation with myself, and i said I REFUSE to live the rest of my life like this. Im 41. One way or another I wouldn't do it.
I watch your videos and you honestly have me in awe. You are so strong, where do get the strength and the positivity from??

You have no idea how many times I have nearly lost it when I see people wearing surgeons masks, and claim it protects them. I work in the nuclear industry and we use Drager, Kemira and N10 respirators to enter a contaminated area. We have to go through a special fitting session as well, because there are different sizes and in this case, size does matter.

Thank you. I have health issues (& age) that make it easier for me to get the virus. I also have depression so staying in the house is getting to me. I bookmarked this so I can watch it anytime. Something about the way you present & how calm your voice is makes me feel better. Love your channel.

Thanks for this. I'm fighting my family's denial right now, most of them are elderly and stubbornly opposed to taking this seriously. I moved in with my dad so I could clean his house and keep an eye on him, making sure he's eating healthy and living in a clean environment as much as possible.

But please don't call social distancing bullshit, it's necessary at the moment for everyone to keep dangered people safe and necessary anytime someone is sick with a viral disease.

I work in repair, when I get onsite I wash my hands, before I leave the site I wipe down the machine with sanitizer solution. Even if it means the germs are knocked down for five minutes, it helps.

Your humor, your wit and your public educator skills, make the world a better and safer place! Really well done! I'm happy to report, that the people I talked to in Hamburg Germany, are often most concerned about spreading the virus, while having no symptoms. That also motivates them to follow (WHO) advice.

English is not my native language, so in many ways I catch the essence of what is said more from familiar words than whole sentences. But I still understand what you are saying, and that sanity reassures me. It’s not that I was afraid, but the people around me are afraid, and this general panic depresses.
And I just like listening to you. This clear, pleasant sound, continuously flowing, at the same time energetic and pacifying.
And this style! Oh my, this video is very beautiful. Like frames from a movie.

I have anxiety and have been using my learned CBT exercises to cope with all the misinformation. Everyone I work with is getting their info from Twitter and Facebook (and we all know how reliable this is...) and getting worked up about it. Watching them all freak out about stuff that probably isn’t true and they probably can’t change must be what it’s like watching me having an anxiety/panic attack.
Also, the amount of people in my shop who’s uni/college has shut is infuriating, it’s not a holiday, they’ve been sent home for a reason. Stay in when you can!

I have this one friend who worries about everything and is completely healthy yet she is acting like she is going to die. I have asthma so I have a genuine reason to be worried if I get it and the fact that I am still seeing so many people doing things like coughing on their hands and then eating cake. Honestly I think the schools should close because the queue in my school (full of a thousand people btw so that's totally hygienic) for going home was longer than the queue for lunch. Also one of my other friends has parents that both have all of the symptoms and have been told by several people to stay at home yet she is still going to school. I feel really safe👍

my extended family isn't taking this seriously at all, my aunt sent my cousin to the beach for a trip YESTERDAY. it's so frustrating and it worries me so much because my grandma has many chronic illnesses and her and my grandpa went out for dinner a few days back with the whole family, possibly exposing themselves. my mom and i have not left the house in days and so much of my family thinks we are crazy for doing so, even though that is what the CDC is encouraging everyone to do if possible. No matter how much we tell them they still wont listen. My sister also works in a big hospital which worries me even more. Thank you for being a voice of reason ❤ it's very refreshing and helps calm my nerves.

I have a compromised immune system and asthma, and also eczema and an allergy to soap... washing my hands causes itchy and peeling skin, and sometimes skin breaks and bleeding... So yeah washing hands constantly is MORE likely to lead to infection for some.

    • @mcanta2898
      @mcanta2898 4 ปีที่แล้ว

I am no doctor, so you should probably consult yours, but I would tell you to either use hand sanitizer, or keep your hands under running water for a while. washing your hands do not kill the virus, but washes it down the drain. soap makes it easier, by washing away the oils that bacteria and viruses may cling to. so its not perfect, but its better than nothing, i guess? hand sanitizer though, should kill it. but again, I do not know your exact condition, and I am not a trained medical professional, so yeah.

Sharing the feels. I'm allergic to sulphites. This is why I keep alcohol spray in my handbag. I still get dirty looks from people in bathrooms, but this one time the soap was broken and I came to the rescue lol. Anyway, if you can handle an antihistamine AND it works vs the soap allergy, take one before heading out. That's what I'm doing at the moment if I have to go out in public.

My school is closed for COVID-19 until April 13 unless things escalate. Most people think of it as a fun vacation, but some people at school live in abusive homes and the seniors are literally getting their last couple of months with their friends before they graduate taken away. I'm not a senior, but I have friends who are. The whole thing sucks really bad.

I haven't seen enough people mentioning this nearly enough, so *clears throat* Do please remember to wash your hands frequently (as Jessica so wonderfully stressed) AND see to cleaning high traffic surfaces INCLUDING your phone when its touched with hands that might have been contaminated, been near your face to have been contaminated by you, or placed on a possibly contaminated surface! We touch those suckers more often than doorknobs these days. Clean them! Clean them! Seriously, think about it. When was the last time you did?
