I stumbled on this video back in 2011. I fell in love instantly and then read the comments that she had died 2 wks prior. Devastating. I couldn't believe such an amazing band could be so obscure, I still can't.
There's something really mysterious about this song and video, and that's amazing since mystique is generally gone in rock music nowadays. It's the most noir atmosphere I've ever heard in a song (more than Portishead, Stereolab, Goldfrapp etc) and it's so evocative I can feel it, it's like the perfect distillation of a mythological 1960s that never existed but is made almost real and tangible through the music and you just want to live there. The melancholy and sense of fortitude, pain and resolve in the vocals are extraordinarily affective. 10/10, no...11/10, one of the best songs of the 00s.
Couldn't agree more. I got the album on CD shortly after it came out in 2001 I believe. I was in the Army at Ft. Hood TX at the time and was exposed to the band from an Austin station I'd listen to before early morning PT. Shortly after purchasing the CD, I took it with me to a field exercise, and as I rested on a cot inside a tent, I just plugged the headphones into my portable CD player and closed my eyes. It truly took me to another place. Other worldly.
I was lucky enough to, and even met Trish on what would be her and their final tour, because of her tragic death from Swine Flu. She was incredibly nice. I was absolutely shocked when she died so young, but I brother also came down with Swine Flu that year, living with me at the time, and it was absolutely brutal, so I definitely can understand how it could go that way... so awful for her bandmates, and everyone who loved this band.
I found this band completely by accident like 12 years ago. A co-worker/cook at a restaurant at downtown Austin said he found a DVD of a compilation of music videos from all sorts of bands at a garage sale that he thought I'd like. I took it home and I almost didn't watch any of it since none sounded familiar to me. But I played it anyway and this music video was on there. Been a fan ever since. Funny that this track still sounds like the future to me, but also very nostalgic and makes me think back in times when things were a bit simpler.
I touched your shoulder when you left the show... and you turned around in shock... I followed you outside and you got on your bus... and you blew me a kiss. RIP Trish... you'll be forever missed.
+dan day In 2004 and unfortunately she didn't say anything. She seemed as timid as you'd imagine. She also just finished a show so I'm sure she was tired and just wanted to get on the bus.
I’m so glad to have had the privilege of seeing this band in their prime at a gig in Houston, TX around the time HaHa sounds was released. Trish Keenan was on point the whole time, and grateful to the crowd. I was 16 when I first discovered Broadcast’s music, and instantly fell in love with their sound and mod aesthetic. To this day Broadcast is still one of my favorite bands. Thank goodness for their existence!
Such a shock to hear about the death of Trish. So young and it just came out of nowhere. Realised not that long ago The Noise Made By People was the first Warp release I ever bought from the now long gone Stereo One in Paisley. Wonderful record. Such a sad loss.
Always and forever, thank you to Great Britain and the British people whose creativity, since the 1960s, has given the rest of the World hundreds of unique bands such as the Broadcast and music of unparalleled beauty, quirkiness and atmosphere. What would our lives have been without British bands? Thank you from Sicily.
Fell into this music today as a music suggestion. Really love her style. She remind of me an Astrud Gilberto. Then to immediately discover she's died.. so sad.
This is a hypnotic, beautifully filmed and staged, video. Being able to see so much of Ms. Keenan is outstanding, too. What a GREAT song. So many of Broadcast's songs were three minutes of setting up for an engulfing conclusion. The final minute of this song is song writing perfection. The video segment of Trish un-clenching of her hand is video making perfection. God, what a loss.
im happy to say i saw these guys twice... once in Paris, France and the next in Carrboro, NC... i got to talk to them in Paris and then they remembered me at the NC show... On top of the rest of the band being really awesome, Trish was such a beautiful woman...
I had never even heard of this band till today. I just stumbled onto this video somehow. But after hearing this song and some of their other tracks, ive realised that this band is brilliant. Things like this is why i love youtube.
Amazing video and an absolutely classic track of theirs - I taped it off of AM college radio in the days right before Napster, Limewire, etc., blew up, which was my way of "saving" music before that era, lol.
I'm only hearing them now thanks to Lodge 49....... Another great group I wish I would have found years ago! These songs remind me of Old Man Willow by Elephant's Memory (party song from Midnight Cowboy), and The Soundcarriers.
So here i come just checking some bands i like, finally get to this one, liked the tunes, liked the voice, and then i realize the lead singer just died this year... fml RIP madam
I saw Broadcast doing a WARP showcase along with Plone and Plaid and they were fantastic. It's great that they've taken a bit of a left turn with the new album creating more lyric based music. Love them. I love
I was just listening to ' I Found the F' when I had the sudden idea to google broadcast and found out she died... it was so so sad... R.I.P. Trish Keenan and thanks for your beautiful voice and great music
I only heard about Trish passing away today, through searching for Broadcast on here. Truly shocked and saddened. Saw them for the first time in 1999 and three or four times since. One of the most innovative, strange and exquisite bands of the last twenty years and one of a dwindling number of bands who were truly independent in spirit. RIP Trish.
Death is painful for all of us because it is not natural that is why one day it will be no more. in the mean time, we all find comfort in the hope that awaits for the world to be restored to it's original condition-paradise. We will have the hope to see Trish again.
I had a lot of hopes for Broadcast. I envisioned Trish collaborating with Ratatat, Kaki King, Beth Gibbons of Portishead or maybe even Beck and gaining more recognition. It shouldn't have ended this way - this soon. She will be missed.
The fact that Keenan passed makes her singing even more eerier and beautiful. RIP to an amazingly great singer who gave me more than just a reason to appreciate electronic music. Any one is entitled to dislike the music in anyway they would like but for fuck sakes have some decency for for those just sharing love for it. I forget that this is TH-cam and the only thing it seems to be good for is trolling and gay ass blog videos. Fuck it though.Trolls never rest.. thx for the jams trish. RIP
this band has helped me through a heavy depression, her voice, her words. i am very thankful for this band.
I love this comment
I they are stunning and appeal to a very romantic part of my psychi
Cried reading it. ❤!!!
Flagship somehow. Agreed.

good description of the aesthetic, very poignant
the video is a pure work of art, what a privilege it is to witness it
I wish I'd discovered this band back when they were around, this song is just brilliant. It's like a 1960s film and soundtrack all in one.

Same but mine was in Houston right before the Tender Buttons album dropped. ♥️

Happy Birthday Trish Keenan (September 28)
She is missed.
She was great. So sensible. Like a real person.
Ten days Trish. Bless you. Happy early birthday.
Shocked by the age of this post. And how good this band is and how sad I was to find out she had passed
One of my favorite artists. My heart goes out to her family and the band. She has and always will have my respects.
R.I.P. Trish. We'll miss your hauntingly beautiful voice.
One of the best British bands ever

I had never even heard of this band till today. I just stumbled onto this video somehow. But after hearing this song and some of their other tracks, ive realised that this band is brilliant. Things like this is why i love youtube.
Trish, thanks for this tune and all the rest of the great music you made.
i'll miss trish forever, but i have to say, her death only makes Broadcast's music/her voice only more eerie, mysterious, and beautiful.
i have no idea why i've not sought out Broadcast videos before. this song and album are one of my most favorite ever.
Fantastically good band. It doesn't all work, but when it does, it's magical.
Flawless song, perfect voice. Long live Broadcast. Long live Trish.
One of the first Broadcast tracks that made me fall in love with their inventive sound. They're original and Trish is an attractive femme!
Amazing video and an absolutely classic track of theirs - I taped it off of AM college radio in the days right before Napster, Limewire, etc., blew up, which was my way of "saving" music before that era, lol.
Rest In Peace Trish. You left us with recordings of your beautiful voice but WE WEREN'T READY TO SAY GOODBYE MUCH MUCH TOO SOON!
