Compared to other bows I found my evolve cam bows were particularly challenging to bare shaft tune, the bare shaft was always shooting to the right like in your previous perform x vid. Finally I accepted how I shot the bow was more critical in regards to the torque on the grip and in regards to the string at full draw in regards to the alignment. I am guessing this is due in part to the long valley and high let off. Now it shoots great, but I had to adapt to the bow and not alter the bow to shoot to my style with yoke tuning, spacers and so forth.
I'm glad you mentioned the axle looking like it's sitting at an angle. I really just noticed this on my '16 Supra and I was extremely worried about it. I also noticed the previous owner had adjusted the LAS so far that one of the limb bolt nuts was almost completely out of the socket on one side. I thought this might be the reason that the limbs looked so canted from behind. I adjusted this back to the center. My Supra has marks to tell if it's in the center, but I notice when the nuts look centered in the socket, the lines actually don't quite line up (which maybe why the previous owner tried adjusting). I also had an issue that when I purchased the bow, the cable slide was removed. I tightened this too far when reinstalling it (not noticing what I was doing) and it was pulling my strings out extremely far. I loosened this and brought the strings in more towards center, and my limbs look MUCH better. They do still look slightly canted, though, and I noticed even on that Shootdown you pointed at the camera, it looks slightly at an angle as well. I haven't paper tuned my bow yet or bareshaft tuned but my groups are good for me so far. I may try bareshaft tuning and potentially paper tuning, but with groups like I have, I'm happy. Thanks for the review. I love my Supra but I really wish I could use a Bowmaster G2 on it. I'd like to play with my draw length and adjust my peep without having to take it to the shop. My next target bow may be one that I can use the press on, which sucks because I like PSE and I'd be interested in the Perform or Shootdown.
i just bought the shootdown a couple of months ago. i love the look and the feel of the bow. i would like to get another shootdown and set it up for indoor.
I shot the shootdown and enjoyed the bow but gonna wait to get one. Got a Supra ext and enjoying it for this year. May end up using the Supra for 3D and shootdown for spots. Enjoying all the new reviews keep up the good work.
Excellent review, that group proves you're a mere mortal and not some archery god. Just got my Shootdown, SM 29/60 just like the one you're reviewing, last Saturday now just waiting on the goodies to make it prettier. When you went to draw it back, yes, my sentiments exactly, 60 Lbs. right from the get go. I would like to see you redeem yourself from that grouping, so a Shootdown redux is in order. Thanks for the review.
Was really considering the Shootdown until I looked at the Beast ECS. It’s pretty much the Shootdown with the full size evolve cams and is cheaper. If you do a review on it, I think customers would be very interested in it!
I had a good play with a friend's one at 50m today Justin. If you're interested, a few notes: Lovely smooth draw. Circa 60lbs at 29.5 was lovely and had a nice rollover into a decent valley with a 75% mod. With the 65% mod, the valley is very short, and it got a bit grabby at the back. Shot feel is very nice, much softer than the Supra EXT, and a bit more like the older Supra Max, which I preferred. Holds and spits them out quit nicely. I imagine it would be nice at 50-55lbs with the 65% mods ( I think you'd be limited at 50lb/75% in terms of stabiliser weight as it's already fairly hefty). The one I shot was an earlier one I think, and did have noticeable axle bend at rest, so good to see they've beefed up the axles on later ones. In summary to me it feels a bit like a much better built Supra Max. Not a bad thing at all :)
Thanks James. I still have the Supra Max I bought off you a few years ago! But I have got myself a cheap Dominator just to see if I like a shoot through as I like the idea of the Perform X.
Interesting review, I'm not surprised by your findings regarding speed bows. I'd agree with your view that speed is an advantage but in my view that would only apply if everything else was equal, unfortunately as you found that isn't always the case. The speed as you say comes at a cost either in greater holding weight which as you found leads to shakes and due to that worse scores, in addition I would agree with your view that the faster the bow the less forgiving it is, a less than perfect shot with a slower more forgiving bow might still score a 9 where a speed bow will punish a bad shot with a 7 or 8. It's my view that if your form and shot process is dialled in and you have build up the strength to use it then there may be an advantage in the extra speed although it doesn't matter how quickly the arrow reaches the target if it isn't aimed at the X. It's a bit like the fat v's skinny arrow question you touched on, a switch to a faster bow or a switch to a fatter arrow doesn't guarantee higher scores, it could just as easily result in lower scores and a lot of frustration. What works in theory doesn't always work in practice.
There is always those unpleasant negatives with extra speed in a target bow. Still preferring that really nice Obsession Final Pro X as a direct comparison in all respects, including visual appeal, don't find those "fins" that PSE persist with tacking on at all attractive, but that is purely subjective.
@@ArcherySuppliesLonsdale Thanks for your time Steven, I enjoy my 2016 (upgraded to 2017) but am bit over-bowed with it (50-60) so rather than buy new limbs I'm dropping the hammer on a Pearson MX3 (45-50#) Really like your channel and thanks for getting back to me. Rog
wrong ATA info... for the shootdown and the performX 3D (never been 38 and 37...)and it's not the only error... As a proshop , be carefull with specs...
Justin Phillips. I just bought the pse stinger.. 70lb version. (Backed of to 60lb) a few ends to get my sights then shot at a 40cm face.... Grouped just as well as my Hoyt contender elite+pse Supra. Very very pleased with this bow.

Yes but the Focus was perfect with no tuning, this seems standard. everyone with a Focus had no problems.

When do you think you’ll do a review on the 2019 shootdown? What differences do you think PSE will make
I'd love to find one in green, satin mercury or orange. Awesome looking bow

Hi Steven, greets from germany! I´m going to change my PSE Phenom to an PSE Shootdown. Is there coming an update to the 2018 version in 2020?

Kind of apples and oranges but how would this compare to a Mybo edge or evoke 35 SE?
Sweet review Steven! Still looking forward to seeing you review that Hoyt RX1.
Hello there down under! Have youre velocity meter checked. The Turmoil should also be alot faster.
Yayayyy. Thank you.
What is your honest opinion on this v the hoyt xxl. (ie.proforce)
Looking for my first target bow
I think you are spot on about poundages vs. accuracy. You could shoot the Shootdown at 50lbs, and given its speed still get decent sight marks.

I really liked the dominator too. The EXT and Xpression were a bit stiff for my taste.
awesome review Steve
Gorgeous bow!
Trying to decide between this bow and the supra focus, would I have any problem hitting 110yards with the supra focus?
Depends on your draw length and arrow weight.

Man i'm trying to find info on the 2019 but no one seems to be reviewing it. Idk how much is changing between the 2018 and 2019.
Only change is size of the cam axle, from 3/16 to 1/4 inch shaft
are the rumours of 2 different evolve cam sizes true? some say the evolve bows cam is bigger then the perform/shootdown?
Yes, target Evolve cams are smaller
There's a Mini Evolve Cam available as an option.
Steven, do you still shoot your Xpression?
Yes, I use it as a Clout bow now. Shooting the Focus mainly, have a Perform too. But I need to build weight up on it.
Good stuff, I love mine and can’t see me changing out, as a finger shooter choices are limited really. Great channel, shoot true Steven😀

Dan Jasa shot the PerformX not the Shootdown.
Why does pse pretty much keep the same bows just change the names every year
Obsession K34 virtually the entire lineup changed in 2018.
Based on that grouping i wouldnt buy this bow.....you shot better on the stinger.....
Something to be said i think for slower light bows
I would buy this but at 50lbs. I think his group is not great because its a hard cam at 60lbs, and even he said he shook when drawing it back.
