This was my local little town for two years before we moved another 45 mins East. It’s such a lovely little town and the Abby is spectacular!! Thank you for sharing.
I was born half an hour from the abbey, and never got to visit it, so I'm especially grateful for this one! My father was stationed nearby at RAF Cottesmore at the time and we lived in the area until I was two.
Ahh lovely stuff! Yeah it's a beautiful ruin that I've been wanting to visit many times. Ventured around the area a couple times but never made it this far until recently :)
That abbey has its windows bricked up with some tiny little replacements in the middle, and we're one of the richest nations on Earth. I hate the fact we're surrounded by this rubble of once great buildings. All of them should be restored.
While I agree that some should be restored, I do find some ruinous sites I've visited very photogenic as an overgrown ruin, becoming reclaimed by nature.
...the stone here came from the same place as the stone for Peterborough Cathedral in Barnack... Both of which are just down the road... Fun Fact: It is rumoured that there was/is and underground tunnel linking the Cathedral and the Abby...
Very interesting - although I hear a lot of stories about supposed hidden tunnels linking certain medieval places together. A tunnel from Crowland Abbey to Peterborough cathedral would make it the longest medieval tunnel in Britain at 10 miles long so I doubt that's true unfortunately haha.

My pleasure. Where do you live now if you don't mind me asking? Sounds like it could be in Norfolk 👀

Great video Alex. Never knew about the medieval bridge in the village. Will pay a visit.
It's a beauty! Plus the nearby coffee shop does wonderful carrot cake.
I'd love info on if/when and what may be known of the different phases of buildings here. It's such an interesting place.
Thank you:) glad you enjoyed
Another good video. I wondering can you do some castles from Plantagenet density. I watch some documentaries on them.
Interesting...what castles did you have in mind?

@@AlexTheHistoryGuy Ya, rebuilding them is reclamation by nature... we are nature.

@@AlexTheHistoryGuy ...spend a day in Peterborough Cathedral talking to the resident historian and take it from there...
Went to school there, lived on a farm liked the farm . did not like the school.
It seemed like a very tranquil place to live! Very peaceful.
