Canadian here. That was the most off base take I have ever heard. Trump has not come up in any conversations or news with respect to Trudeau’s popularity. Housing, inflation, COVID-19 divides, and environmental legislation took their toll. It’s almost laughable that someone would even imagine that.
Americans like to believe that America influences every country in the world, I noticed. But yeah, as a person from Ottawa: I don't think that I've ever seen anyone so widely disliked in Canada in my entire life, and I'm in my mid-30s. He did this to himself. I've even seen comments on TH-cam from people in other countries that don't like him.
His staff resigned. They told him his math didn't make sense, and his budget and economic plans were an insane fantasy. Basically, what everyone has known for years.
@ Sorry, I will never trust someone who gives a press conference with the flag of a foreign country behind him, without even a representative of the said country.
He effectively brought in martial law during Covid, he made inflation worse by his profligate spending, he has no respect for parliament or the people, he has imposed poverty on millions of Canadians with outrageous taxes. No big scandal though.
Resident of Ontario CA here adding some perspective. The result of this resignation is that the Liberal party's coalition partner, NDP leader Jagmeet Singh, also shares responsibility for this leadership failure. Canadians have wanted this for some time now and Mr. Singh could have forced this much sooner as his NDP party held the balance of power in the house of parliament. So while all eyes are on Trudeau at the moment, the NDP are also in danger of losing support. That will bring Conservative Party support to highs not seen for decades and despite what Fox and NBC News alluded to in their reports, this conservative surge in Canada has absolutely nothing to do with politics in the USA. These party leaders brought this on themselves. The election is very likely to occur sooner than October since the NDP has very little room to maneuver now, if they don't bring down the Liberal / NDP coalition government, the political losses will be severe.
I don't think the election can happen sooner now but maybe, with parliament prorogued a no confidence election can't be called Likely the liberals will appoint someone else by March 26 and then run a leadership race in the next election if they haven't figured out how to ban elections by then (that's right you heard me)
