The trouble is a third of Slade was Noddy's voice and the other third was Don Powell's drumming. Listen to any Slade hit and it's Powell's distinct style which drives the song. He was an incredibly underrated drummer and this guy doesn't seem to have even attempted to mimmick it. By the way, Noddy was one of the greatest frontmen ever! 😎
Agree fully about the part that Noddy and Don contributed to everything Slade was! What is more, even Dave's guitar playing is quite sloppy here. I compared this to Slade live at Reading live recordings here on TH-cam. You cannot compare this travesty with the true Slade from those times. If you want to hear a good Slade tribute band live, listen to Slady here on TH-cam. It's an all-girl band, much better than this "effort".

Lea's bass playing is the basis for their sound.
Slade were my teenage heroes. I saw them live at Hammersmith Odeon in 1983 and they were superb, absolutely note perfect to the recording. I am saddened to say that after listening to this concert Dave Hill should be looking at retiring. This is not Slade in any way shape or form.
Why on earth have the other 3 members of the genuine Slade band allowed Dave Hill to do this….it’s a travesty!!
Sorry man, if Dave's still goin its still Slade (sorta). Better than nuthin. MAKE the most of it while you can.
It is about the songs. You can not let the music die. Noddy does not want to do it. That was years ago. The other two have left for whatever reasons. The other choice is to not have any Slade bands at all. And let the music slip into the ocean and drown..Swallowed up and not have a place in history. We can not keep hold of those poster boys forever. Let the music take over..The guys will one day not be with us. It is the music that should take priority. Not the poster boy image you had on your walls. That goes for every one who is rubbishing the folk who are trying to keep what those guys did alive. All you lot are doing is trying to bury the music of the guys you all claim to be fans of. The guys who are deceased.Do you all want that music never played in public again. Cos' that is the message that is coming from all of you.Who are part of that crowd This is for all who rubbish Sweet, Smokie, as well, and any other bands who have different line ups to the posters you had on your bedroom walls. Did you even follow the bands and music beyond those hit making years, to notice the line up changes happened years and years ago. With their singer guys.
From what I see, and I am just a normal music fan. The only thing that has happened in this band is there is a new singer. Jim left years ago. Don had hearing problems I heard. Dave was a big part of Slade for any who were the youngsters who had the posters on the wall.
It is not the fault of Dave, Jim, or Don what happened within Slade. They were not the guys who walked away from you all. Don was there till he got really aged. Jim had health situation. Dave has no plans to walk away yet. If you want to see who put Slade in this position. Read back the post .
Für dieses Konzert hatte ich eine Karte, konnte dann aber krankheitsbedingt nicht hin. Und was soll ich sagen - ich hab nichts verpasst.
I've been a Slade fan since 1973, but not this version. Enough is enough Dave! This is embarrassing!

Dave Hill used to come into my guitar shop & he was as awful then as he is here!
Slade have always been the greatest 70s band ......... until they weren't, this really is so so sad seeing and hearing perfection being "hung drawn and quartered"
To be honest I think if I had been there I would have gone up and pulled the main fuse.

This is painful, but as jim lea and noddy wrote most of the hits, they collect royalties.. Dave was and is just a working musician.

It's like watching a max wall tribute concert (pardon the pun I think this band are over the HILL!!!)

You will never replace Noddy, but there is a band called Slade UK with a few vids on here, i suggest you give them a listen, the singer is by far the closest you will get to our Noddy, the band is quite good too, better than this crap i can assure you.

Certainly not as good as the original 4, but this Slade is better than no Slade at all. Such a pity to be one of the rare bands that never re - formed. If you do, Australia awaits your return. pleeze pleeze me

Dave as finally got what he always wanted and that was to be centre stage but unfortunately it is CRAP...Im a Slade fan since 1971...😪😪😪

I would like to know who composed the guitar solos and who performed these solos. Because it's obvious that David Hill wasn't playing, he was just pretending.
Hill couldn't do a solo to save his life.
sadly I agree...It was JIM who played guitar on Whatever Happened to Slade....at the time I thought Dave had really pulled out all the stops..but it was Jim...

Give Slade UK a try, they have a few vids on here, the singer is the closest to Noddy Holder i have ever heard.
I've had the honour of seeing the Noddy, Dave, Jim & Don line-up live a couple of times and they just killed it. One of the best shows I've ever seen. This however is a complete mess. Poor vocals and the drummer's timing is terrible. He's clearly not working to a click track! How the mighty fall....
I admire Dave Hill. But why? This is not slade.
Fürchterlich, das hat mit meiner Lieblingsband Slade nichts mehr zu tun. Noddy, Jim und auch und auch Don sind wohl nicht zu ersetzen. Dave sollte in den Ruhestand gehen. Da sind manche Coverbands um Längen besser.
This is REALLY sad. Hill was, at best, a mediocre soloist, the muscle of Noddy's rhythm guitar, Jim's bass and Don's drums pushed the power while Dave's lead work perfectly rode that wave. This band has bad vocals, a keyboard, no muscle, no drive and Mr Hill getting his fill of being a dill. VERY sad...worse than karaoke really.
Awful - Dave should have stopped 10 years ago.

Andy Scott and Sweet are a far better live band nowadays than this lot. Then also, Andy Scott was always a far better guitarist than Dave Hill. No mistake: I absolutely love Slade but what I'm listening to here is not Slade, it's slayered... "Far away" is pretty good though but the guitar part still kinda sucks.
This is just not good.
