The bezel on those Daytonas - is it really the polishing that fades away the numbers? Because I've seen a lot of unpolished examples and the numbers are still pretty faded. It puts me off buying one.
I am sure it does. Polishing just accelerates the fading process. So. it's a risk that someone would have to decide when selling a used Rolex, polish and increase the fading, or sell with visible scratches.

That first Rolex looks like something a pimp or gangsta would wear. Rolex as a brand is so tired. No wonder the prices are dropping.
