This song really reminds me of the naivety of nostalgia. The comfortable memories of childhood and how the lines blur between reality and fiction, how sleep means you don’t have to process emotions and gives you that bit of comfort your childhood brought you. Until it doesn’t, and maybe it was easier when you were a kid because you didn’t know what was real or fake. You miss the feeling, how unreal it all felt until you wake up one day and you’re in the drivers seat of your own life. And for me personally I love the happy music to go with the lyrics. It truly puts me in the mindset of direct childhood trauma but how your grasp on it as a child is tenuous at best, and yet none of it feels real. The comfort of escapism during your formative years can feel like freedom in a box.
Ngl so many people in these comments are saying "aww I wish I could be a kid again" when they are literally like 13. You're still a kid, go out and enjoy life! ❤
this song is the most dreamcore/weird core song I’ve ever heard. I love it. I can not imagine living without this song. So nostalgic, Literally. I love this song more than anything at this point. I’ve known and listened to this song for 5-6 years. I couldn’t get enough of it. The melody and lyrics are just so good. If you don’t like this song, there is something genuinely wrong with you. I respect people’s opinions but on this I am going to fully attack anyone who hates this song (by words). If this song dies then I’ll bring it back with my heart. I listen to this song everyday. Even kero kero bonitos other songs are just like this. Amazing, perfect and nostalgic. Even though weirdcore and dreamcore isn’t my style. This song will make it my style. I love this song as much as I love my family, friends and my cat. Which is bigger than the universe. Thank you, thank for making this song.

If you listen to the lyrics this song is actually about a pretty serious subject despite it's tune. The singer is growing and as she gets older she gets tired of life. She isn't aware of the change and questions why things can't be the way that they were when she was a kid. She used to have enthusiasm and want to stay up late but now she's tired all of the time and would rather be asleep. It could be interpreted differently, but this is what I got from it.
This song has the vibes of a weird dream; it seems sweet and familiar, but there’s something just beneath the surface that’s uncomfortable and you can’t figure out what it is.
I think Japanese have a very good positive vibes They not make a sad music with sad vibes but sad music with happy vibes to make people more comfortable but it have deep meaning

If you have seen videos of surreal images over this song because it says “Now I know what’s real and what is FAKE” is the reason. Surreal images have to make you unsettled in your own way. But you know it’s fake and completely fine. If this isn’t the case its probably just you imagining the dream vibe from from the background music and music title
i feel i've been caught up into something i call "era/year regression" since a very long time. i want to be born in 2000 for some reason and want to stay in the range of 2000-2012. forever. even though i was born in that range. and this 'regression' has altered my preferences a lot. i like outdated academic books (probably like from 2003-08) a lot than the ones published last month, songs i listen to are usually nearly a decade old or more, i got a digital camera from 2008 which i still use for clicking random stuff, and have its timestamp at the year 2008. the flash in my display picture is actually from the same camera. songs which sound like they were made in the 00s or 10s also feel comforting, like this one. i hate new technology, and want a phone which is similar to nokia or blackberry. preferably blackberry. and i like the cassettes which are no longer used. the stories i write (yes i do) are NEVER set beyond 2013, mostly involuntarily and sometimes voluntarily. i never prefer novels written after 2000. and it's not something for an aesthetic, even though it feels to me. this is not harmful to the society, but it is very hard to achieve for my own satisfaction; when people suggest me to get a phone to click pics, even if i tag along with that camera, and to get used to new things. i hate it, mostly. edit 1: so there have been some developments. i found out my kid watch which i thought i had lost long ago in 2013 or such. it’s just like it was then: blue straps, Madagascar 3 exclusive edition analog kid watch. it is frozen at 12:02. idk what i would be doing the time it stopped. ill get it repaired, but maybe not wear it. or i may. idk. it still fits me. and i also discovered many games i used to play way way WAY back which still survive on the play store. now i play them instead of writing my stories because they haven’t changed a bit. ah… i’d really like to live in 2000-12.
It's funny how I used to listen to this, thinking my life sucked as a kid. I'm older, and going back to this again, I can actually relate for real now..
I feel so funny these days I'd rather sleep than stay awake Trees used to talk to me Now I know what's real and what is fake Now I know what's real, what's fake Rather sleep than stay awake Are we from outer space? This doesn't feel like the right place And we'll try anything Just to be a kid once again Just to be a kid again Now I know what's real, what's fake Rather sleep than stay awake Just to be a kid again
Didn't see anybody talk about this so here I go (OMORI spoilers) I associate this song to SUNNY from OMORI. He sleeps everyday, dreaming of his younger self and friends He realizes "whats real and what's fake" when he stabs AUBREY on Three Days Left, because he was still in his dream where stabbing doesn't hurt. SUNNY is a depressed character and this song associates with him a lot "I'd rather sleep than stay awake" as in, when he woke up because of hungriness, he tried to go back to sleep, but couldn't because he was way too hungry Poor SUNNY
My niece listened to this song repeatedly during the summer of 2020. I remember hearing it and thinking about quarantine, about COVID, about how I "wished to be a kid again"...Whenever I hear this song, I am always brought back to that weird summer and the year the world became strange... I try my hardest to forget about 2020 but it has such a damn hold on me...
As a kid we romanticize growing up, falling in love, going to high school. As an adult we romanticize being a kid, having less worries and responsibilities. In reality, the best moment is the one you have right now. This is the moment you can change; the one you can choose to enjoy or work to make better. Dreams are great, as are aspirations, but don’t forget to enjoy the journey dear friends :) (Edit, a year later) Things got a bit serious in the replies and I wish to clarify this is generalized advice that may not apply to everyone’s life scenario. I am sorry to those of you who have had a difficult past or even present, and wish to tell you that things will get better. I am by no means a professional therapist or motivational speaker, but my heart goes out to you, and I hope a little piece of joy comes into your life today.
I’m only thirteen and I just want my childhood back, I’ve gone through way too much trauma and stress for someone my age and I just want to go back to where I wasn’t anxious and tired all the time
I feel so funny these days I'd rather sleep than stay awake Trees used to talk to me Now I know what's real and what is fake Now I know what's real, what's fake Rather sleep than stay awake [Verse 2] Are we from outer space? This doesn't feel like the right place And we'll try anything Just to be a kid once again Just to be a kid again [Outro] Now I know what's real, what's fake Rather sleep than stay awake Just to be a kid again La la la la la la la
It hits different if you think of "Now I know what's real what's fake, Rather sleep than stay awake." like she just learned what the truth actually is, and it hurts so bad that she just wants to pretend she still doesn't know it like she used to, so it would be less painful. And with the fact that now she has learned it, there is no turning back; it will always stay at some place in her mind that all of it is a lie. That's what hurts her the most.
I can literally relate to this song so much, like I’ve been so overwhelmed by schoolwork and I have so much stress and anxiety, and instead of doing it I just cry or go on my phone, which to me is basically like sleeping. Edit: thankfully my teachers have stopped giving so much work, so I’m not stressed anymore, just depressed about being the quiet kid. But I still would rather be asleep than awake

@@hyo_unbf i feel really sorry for you, and your parents shouldn’t be treating you that way. Therapy might really help you, I highly recommend it. You’re not invalid at all, and it’s not your fault that you get mad at others easily. It’s your parents fault for acting immature and saying that stuff to you.
My personal interpretation: - Note that, along with the song's title and the line "Just to be a kid again", another line is also repeated throughout the chorus: "Now I know what's real what's fake". -- In my opinion, this holds great importance in the song's theme: the contrasting "real" and "fake" can be referring to "practical" - symbolizing the more realistic life as an adult, and "imaginary" - symbolizing the more ethereal life as a kid. -- This essentially means that, as the singer grows up, they learn to be practical while slowly lose grasp on their own creativity. - Four of the lines in the song can be interpreted differently with this logic: -- "Trees used to talk to me" refers to the singer's imaginations in their youth. Personifying inanimate objects occurs often in children when they play with their toys or "imaginary friends". -- "Are we from outer space" can be a question the singer's childish self is asking. They are questioning why the practical world feels so alien after growing up. "Outer space" can be referring to the imaginations since it is generally appealing to many children. (Every kid once wanted to be an astronaut...) -- "Just to be a kid again" refers to being able to imagine again. -- "Rather sleep than keep awake" refers to dreaming, entering a world created in your own mind, rather than facing reality. Remember, I am not trying to disprove any other theories as being wrong, and this is just my personal opinions. Thank you for reading because this comment miiiight be a bit long and very confusing.
Idk why, but this song reminds me of a memory I have that's unsettling but nostalgic at the same time. Basically, when I was 4 or 5 years old, in the middle of the night (around 1 or 2 am) my cousins (who were 6-8 at the time) were dropped off at our house for some unknown reason that even my mom doesn't remember why. 2 of my cousins slept in the living room, while my 3rd cousin slept with me. And here's the part where it feels unsettling. (for me). Me and my cousin couldn't sleep so we just stayed in bed making jokes and I even got out a small notebook with a pink pen where we just scribbled in for a while. The reason why I find that moment very wEiRdCoRe-IsH is because of the environment we were in. My room was dark, there was a small nightlight, my dollhouse was in the corner, my ceiling light (if you call it that-) looked kinda weird, the room was small, and most importantly, my bed was in the center of my room. Basically, my room looked like a liminal space. This part is kinda random, but my mom walked into my room and told me and my cousin to go to sleep, so for the rest of the night we just stared at the creepy looking ceiling light. (My celling light looked something like this: cdn.shadesoflight.com/product_images/580e9eb561707070e6001ff1/super_zoom/champagne_silver/champagne-silver-simple-ceiling-light.jpg?c=1494598626) But yeah, that's a memory that gives me the chills whenever I remember it. Idk, it's just the very concept of not being able to sleep while inside this very wEiRdCoRe-IsH room is...scary. Nevertheless, It's incredibly nostalgic and I would die for one more day or night like that with my cousins who barely talk to me now...I miss my old house... Next time I visit my cousins I'm going to see if they remember this experience.
It's interesting how certain things, like a song, can trigger memories and emotions that we haven't thought about in a long time. It sounds like your memory is both unsettling and nostalgic at the same time, which is a unique combination.
@@v6ntiaa Yeah. That memory comes into mind whenever I’m looking at old pictures of my old room. I think that memory is just the feeling of me missing my old room and the relationship I had with my cousins back then. Funny enough, the day I posted this comment I organized my new room to look like my old one since I was missing the old feeing of my room for a long time. And yeah, it is really interesting how certain things such as music, smells, and objects remind us of a certain memory.

the song doesnt really have any suicidal/depression-esque lyrics, so in my opinion, its just a nice little song that perfectly fits the feeling sadness about the childhood that is gone also da shark do be pogging doe
To be honest, childhood wasn’t what we crack it up to be. We remember and obsess over the best parts, and it only seems perfect because our current standards and capacity for hardship have changed. We lament a time where our worst problems would be falling over or losing games, but we forget that at the time, since that was our world, it hurt just as much as the difficulties of adult life. It’s nice to imagine there was a perfect world we could return to, but there never really was one, and you can only live in the present and move forward, and do the best to be kind to yourself and respect your inner child. Try to appreciate the priveliges you only now have, such as freedom to live your life, no matter how insignificant, and a proper understanding of the world. Life seems a whole lot better when you stop comparing it to something unobtainable.
Exactly! The hard truth is that we have to keep moving forward, and that doesn't mean only bad things will happen in the future, it depends on how you interpret it. Plus there are alot of good and fun things about adulthood.
This song perfectly encapsulates the hopelessness of being stuck in the past and wanting desprately to go back to a time where you happy and having to deal with the crippeling reality that you cant and your wont ever be able to in your life
This songs gives really calming vibes, yet it feels like something is hidden behind this. I really love how it went, it seems so dreamy and childish with some weird lyrics and "now i know what's real what's fake", the 2 mixed up gives something really unique. Like an adult dreaming to be a happy kid again with the disturbing truth in the back. I'm not an adult but this is relatable, very relatable. (On a side note, it reminds me of Omori)
Some regularities which the creator may or may not consider mundane tends to blow away the other party ie the listener and in this case the viewer.. .. in other words..that was intentional 😂
Your wasting your life. You can do it. Make some memories. Savor the time you have. Who knows how long we have? So talk to them again. Stop isolating yourself. Your only making your depression worse. Whoever you are, I’m proud of you.

i feel i've been caught up into something i call "era/year regression" since a very long time. i want to be born in 2000 for some reason and want to stay in the range of 2000-2012. forever. even though i was born in that range. and this 'regression' has altered my preferences a lot.
i like outdated academic books (probably like from 2003-08) a lot than the ones published last month, songs i listen to are usually nearly a decade old or more, i got a digital camera from 2008 which i still use for clicking random stuff, and have its timestamp at the year 2008. the flash in my display picture is actually from the same camera. songs which sound like they were made in the 00s or 10s also feel comforting, like this one. i hate new technology, and want a phone which is similar to nokia or blackberry. preferably blackberry. and i like the cassettes which are no longer used. the stories i write (yes i do) are NEVER set beyond 2013, mostly involuntarily and sometimes voluntarily. i never prefer novels written after 2000. and it's not something for an aesthetic, even though it feels to me.
this is not harmful to the society, but it is very hard to achieve for my own satisfaction; when people suggest me to get a phone to click pics, even if i tag along with that camera, and to get used to new things.
i hate it, mostly.
edit 1: so there have been some developments. i found out my kid watch which i thought i had lost long ago in 2013 or such. it’s just like it was then: blue straps, Madagascar 3 exclusive edition analog kid watch. it is frozen at 12:02. idk what i would be doing the time it stopped. ill get it repaired, but maybe not wear it. or i may. idk. it still fits me. and i also discovered many games i used to play way way WAY back which still survive on the play store. now i play them instead of writing my stories because they haven’t changed a bit.
ah…
i’d really like to live in 2000-12.
It's funny how I used to listen to this, thinking my life sucked as a kid. I'm older, and going back to this again, I can actually relate for real now..
This is the most painfully comforting song i have ever heard

I associate this song to SUNNY from OMORI.
He sleeps everyday, dreaming of his younger self and friends
He realizes "whats real and what's fake" when he stabs AUBREY on Three Days Left, because he was still in his dream where stabbing doesn't hurt.
SUNNY is a depressed character and this song associates with him a lot
"I'd rather sleep than stay awake" as in, when he woke up because of hungriness, he tried to go back to sleep, but couldn't because he was way too hungry

As a kid we romanticize growing up, falling in love, going to high school. As an adult we romanticize being a kid, having less worries and responsibilities. In reality, the best moment is the one you have right now. This is the moment you can change; the one you can choose to enjoy or work to make better. Dreams are great, as are aspirations, but don’t forget to enjoy the journey dear friends :)
(Edit, a year later) Things got a bit serious in the replies and I wish to clarify this is generalized advice that may not apply to everyone’s life scenario. I am sorry to those of you who have had a difficult past or even present, and wish to tell you that things will get better. I am by no means a professional therapist or motivational speaker, but my heart goes out to you, and I hope a little piece of joy comes into your life today.

You’re not invalid at all, and it’s not your fault that you get mad at others easily. It’s your parents fault for acting immature and saying that stuff to you.
My personal interpretation:
- Note that, along with the song's title and the line "Just to be a kid again", another line is also repeated throughout the chorus: "Now I know what's real what's fake".
- Four of the lines in the song can be interpreted differently with this logic:
-- "Trees used to talk to me" refers to the singer's imaginations in their youth.
(Every kid once wanted to be an astronaut...)
-- "Just to be a kid again" refers to being able to imagine again.

@@manicdosed no its shark pog
Life seems a whole lot better when you stop comparing it to something unobtainable.
this was really comforting, thank you :)
Exactly! The hard truth is that we have to keep moving forward, and that doesn't mean only bad things will happen in the future, it depends on how you interpret it. Plus there are alot of good and fun things about adulthood.
