I was a day 1 Destiny 1 and 2 player. Dropped D2 in December 2017 when it was painfully obvious what was happening. I certainly didn't want it to be that way, playing Bungie games since 2002, but that was too much. If we find out that in fact this new Bungie actually tries to hit the reset button and go back to what made them a great studio a decade ago, I'll probably come back to Destiny. It remains to be seen just how much of the Destiny 2 shitshow was forced upon them by Activision, but I suspect most of it was, and upper management went along with it like a good Vassal Studio. If Bungie kills Tess Everis, I'll pay up by the end of the day.
Eververse was bungie. Activision didn't do anything development wise other than make the schedule. The reboot in destiny 1? That was a new higher up thinking he was hot shit and could make his story. The Original destiny 1 was written by the same guy that wrote the halo games, he works at Microsoft now. All the shitty patches and ignoring of community complaints was bungie. Former employees have gone as far as to say that bungie thinks their fans are dumb. The masterwork core issue just helps prove that
I too bought D1 and D2 on pre-order. I too bought the season pass. I too dropped D2 only two days after the first DLC. I'm NOT going to pre-order D3, but if it turns around enough I may decide to give it a try.

Cody Rutherford why do you say that? if you take a minute to think about it without blocking logic with your anti-destiny/bungie bias then you can see that the yearly schedule imposed by Activision rushed Bungie to put out unfinished content (in some cases), Activision indirectly stated that it was them who was the cause of the monetization, and both destiny games were rebooted in development, which is especially weird when you consider that d2 was led by a hardcore gamer that used to play WoW, logically concluding that the reboots (at least for d2) most likely had something to do with Activision finding the game too inaccessible for the casual player.
I’m sure there will still be a “Destiny 3” but hopefully they call it something like “Destiny Universe” & they just keep adding expansions onto the franchise without keep releasing new games every few years.. Let’s WoW Destiny !
Dave Carsley I mean the game is essentially an mmo so like it kind of has to be designed as a service. The issue is between whether it becomes a content service or a monetization service
I'm happy that you guys are happy. For me it doesn't matter much. I never liked Bungie games. Now if only Blizzard could/would do the same. But even then... BUNGIE and Blizzard are probably both broken by now. I'm talking about having the right people working there with healthy visions. Blizzard is excited to make mobile games and Bungie will make games for China. It's all about the money, money, moneyyyy... I doubt that they will do a CD project red.
As a guy who has been a gamer for the better part of 40 years, some of my lifetime highs came from Destiny 1. I still remember coming home from work, only to get a text from my friends saying "where you at, Guardian?" I'd kiss my wife and kids, grab some leftovers, and then dive into the the Vault of Glass, a strike, or just screw around doing patrols or daily quests. In fact, my first time completing the Vault of Glass is easily in my top 10 gaming moments ever. I was more than pumped for Destiny 2, got it on day 1, and even took a day off from work to really dive in...but within a few weeks, we could all tell that the passion to play was gone, and by October 2017, most of my squad mates shut the game down, and haven't picked it up since. Besides that sense of nostalgia and camaraderie that I miss from time to time, nothing has really made me want to pick the game up since then, either. With this news, I am finally hopeful again. I probably won't pick Destiny up any time soon, but I will definitely start looking forward to whatever the first Activision-free Destiny announcements are. Here's hoping! I would love to join the fight against the darkness one more time.
@Jason Moore To be fair, Andromeda was done by a C team if I'm not mistaken. It certainly wasn't the team that made Mass Effects 1 and 2 and Dragon Age: Origins. I know Casey Hudson has returned to the fold but whether his direction will be enough is up for debate. I would like the old Bioware back, I don't think that's gonna happen though. Especially considering they announced the new DA was gonna focus on SJW nonsense instead of the literal god bent on destroying the world.
Actually this is much like when the innocent gaming development company called Activition broke off of the corrupt Atari after the suits took over Atari, ya they saw how Atari was just pumping out games most unfinished and they wanted to leave with their integrity, apparently thats what they call their door mat.
I’ve lost interest in the vast majority of ‘modern’ games for a number of reasons. Too expensive, micro transactions and multiplayer focused games. This announcement while good for bungie won’t change the overall trend within the games industry. Games like god of war showed that if you make a good game people buy it, and are chomping at the bit to get the next one. Games like destiny come round and people are grumpy because they know the grind is back. With a thinly veiled hope that it ‘might’ be better than before. I hope for all who like destiny that this improves your game for the future. But I won’t hold my breath.
yeah I fully agree. And the "might" comes with stop thinking Bungie/game companies are your friend and give a shit about you and stop being so easy. Play a little hard to get to. No one respects someone who have no standards, who they can manipulate. I have been playing a lot of older games / smaller games and have even thought about if I want to continue the hobby.
@@Maniacsurvivor Tbf, D1 and D2 have not been on a super good journey across the sea. Without activision, Bungie may not have a higher up pulling the string but that also means less funding for Bungie, in which in case you do not remember, Bungie has been making the decisions behind many of the game's development, the game's quality. I'm not being pessimistic on this subject nor am I being optimistic. There's more bad record than good throughout Destiny's history. I'll see good when there is good. So for now, I'm only waiting. Good on them. The industry needs more independent studios like CDPR, digital extremes, & unknow worlds (they made subnautica) Many more great ones out their just some I could think of.
@@BoleDaPole Fine print, wording and various laws (and lack thereof) are great beginnings of a scam for developers. Hopefully, they have learned their lesson.
Both CFO's fleeing, CEO's fleeing, Bungie leaving, employees leaving Activision/Blizzard. Good times. I don't like Bungie but I definitely like the bad luck Activision is having. My hope is the people who made Blizzard will make a new company and learn from the past.
I've got a theory, Bungie made a bet with Activision about making "Forsaken" the way they want, and if it did well. Then they would get to split from them and even though Activision was trying to deny that it did pretty good (and rated better than any Activision-approved dlc), it was enough to allow them to split off from Activision. After all, something like this doesn't just happen overnight. I'm going to guess that any future DLC's that Bungie comes out for Destiny 2 will be MUCH better than any before, maybe even better than Forsaken! (I bet the puzzle for the forge was Activision's idea though.) I'm happy as anyone that Bungie has split off from Activision and if others in Activision's control see Bungie make a successful run after the split, it just might inspire other companies to do the same! (Looking at Blizzard, perhaps?)
Developing and publishing by your self means the only person that can hold them back is themselves. Bungie changed when they left Microsoft, Many left to other studios like 343, rockstar ext..Many stayed and made destiny, Bungie now make their own path. The ball is in their court to see how they will monetize. I hope they end up changing the gaming landscape as they did when they first created halo. Good luck bungie.
J Robinson anyone who think Bungie is the devil and become frothing maniacs at the mere suggestion that Activision had anything to do with Destiny’s woes because everything wrong with the franchise MUST be laid at the feet of Bungie.
This sounds like way too much hope. What will happen if bungie stays borked ? I don’t think this will end up the way you think it will. It just means they will have no one to blame but themselves down the road. Time will tell.
I don’t care wat anyone says destiny 1 was some of the most fun I’ve ever had and I made sooo many friends and memories and while d2 was horrible, ever since forsaken me and my friends have been heavily enjoying ourselves
Blizzard should buy themselves out of Activision and form Bungieblizzard entertainment with Bungie and just start throwing out great games while Activision COD sales are plummeting. I wouldn’t care what Bungieblizzard makes, I’ll buy it. That would restore my faith in humanity.
It annoys me how so many people forgot that bungie was just as much, if not more, responsible for the shitty decisions with Destiny as Activision was. Activision only had an expectation for content drops and considering the size of bungie it shouldn't have been unreasonable. Bungie has so much work to do with their toolset because they at a rumored 1000 strong, can't produce content at the same rate as a studio a quarter of their size. I hope bungie can now, with no strict content release schedule, take a step back and address the major shortcomings of their in house engine and content creation tools. Only once those issues are remedied, can bungie truly go back to being a great developer.
Activision didn't, not make sandbox changes and half baked, incomplete DLC, Bungie did that. I am not giving Bungie any more money until they show me something that wows me and the Season Pass, and locking out the paying season pass holders from paid content behind a puzzle isn't wowing me.....
Bungie has always had trouble getting projects done in given time. It's pure miracle of how good games Halo trilogy was. They had to cut content a lot and do compromises to meet the deadline.
Dude fucking thank you like I'm pretty fucking sure these dudes covered the story of bungie asking Activision executives if they could abuse the in game store lol
I'd like to remind you guys that all of the changes made to Destiny 2 that ruined the game were mostly, if not entirely, on Bungie. Perhaps it was the Activision culture seeping in, but that doesn't change the fact that Bungie pulled the trigger on it and ran off an enormous portion of Destiny's playerbase, myself included. I hope they make better decisions in the future, but as for Destiny; that franchise is dead to me. It hurts a lot to be fleeced out of $100 and I won't go back to let them do it again.
@@Korakan8 people are easily appeased. It's what these companies count on. Guys like Stirling and Yong have been doing a lot to combat it, but the laymen don't always help matters; what with the hype and all. Still love you guys Gaymon!!
First thing that bungie has to do is throw the fucking engine out and burn it with napalm. With activision they always had the stress of deadlines and could never fix destinys biggest issue. How anyone is still willing to work on a life support game with an engine that is hold together with glue and tape blows my mind. Edit: “life service“ but given all the leaked storys about the engine “life support“ seems to be a better way to describe the whole situation around the problems that come from the engine
Yeah, everyone is so fast to blame Activision but its Bungie who is the captain of the ship. Bungie going off on its own may or may not be a bad thing. Also, as the brothers said, Bungie is happy with the game. If that is true, then Bungie has some serious issues at corporate. When you have people like Luke Smith and Deej making outlandish comments "Throw money at the screen" and "Awesome loot!" which equaled two blues and a token, you can't blame Activision, that was all Bungie.
100% correct. However many would say the compromises they made that fucked us were in response to pressure from Activision with the annualized schedule.
Lots of skepticism in these comments but I feel like that's because none of them actually remember what bungie was like before activision and are naturally cynical of the gaming industry. To that I say calm down and have faith, bungie was THE OG best studio, beyond Insomniac and naughty dog even in their best days. They literally were the sole reason the OG Xbox was successful.
Bro they were successful because of halo right? Guess what happened nine years ago the writer and music composer left or were fired from bungie and now work 343 on halo. Bungie is not as it once was take off your nostalgia glasses and realize this. They started losing all previous reputation from the second the first destiny was released from what it was supposed to be to what we got.
Here's the thing, this is exciting news, but it's way to early to tell how this is going to turn out. As an independent developer, I would hope and would think Bungie could fix things, but we just don't know. What will happen to Destiny? Will it be fixed? And what does "fixing" it entail, other than getting rid of/massively changing the Eververse entail? For me, Destiny died because I'm bad and it constantly made me feel bad. I was forcing myself to play Destiny every day so I would get better, and I never got better, and I was getting depressed, and playing it was becoming a chore, so I decided to say, fine, I'll just play when there are story updates. So I purchased Forsaken (through the year pass thing), and the story was alright, I mourned Cayde-6 but thought killing him was a good idea for the story, I just also think the story wasn't precisely told well. Either way, when I learned that further updates wouldn't have story, it just kinda shut down any willingness I had to turn the game on when future updates come out, because the grind just isn't enough anymore considering the grind always comes with an incredible amount of internal frustration at the fact that I'm literally the most useless piece of shit on the planet. I've got the finger dexterity of a block of cement and the thought processing speed of a potato chip. I'm not at all blaming Bungie for that, that's just my lot in life, but all the same that is MY personal feelings on why Destiny died for me. Raids are fun....when you are in a group that works well, is led by people who know what is going on, and ISN'T shitting on you for making mistakes. But that's also not Bungie, that's just how some players are just rude as fuck, but also I understand their frustration, because I am really fucking retarded for some reason. To me it was never about Eververse. I know the gaming community has a bone to pick with "micro"transactions and such (however the hell 10 or 20 dollars can be called a microtransaction is beyond me), but I don't think those are particularly "bad". I don't like it when things are forced behind the paywall, but if people are willing to pay money for aesthetics or things that enhance their feel for the game, they should be allowed to. I just don't like loot boxes, at all, ever. In app purchases/microtransactions are fine, as long as there is choice involved, and not some garbage shoot tier randomization system that forces you to waste your money until you feel like you "have to keep going now since you already started" until you get the item you wanted. I've fallen down that rabbit hole before and it sucks. So, no loot boxes, hopefully if Eververse is changed we won't have any more loot box bullshittery, and if it does have loot boxes, then it shouldn't be purchaseable with any kind of currency that can be in any way obtainable with real life money. Make loot box purchases based purely on in game currency and that's a bit better, as long as drop percents aren't shit tier to enforce inhumanly long grind times (as long as items aren't temporary, and items aren't found both in that AND the money shop then nobody should complain that the company is just forcing people to want to spend money). Idk, I think there are ways to go about these things just fine, we just need people who aren't desperate to make quick money off of inflated prices of virtual nothingness and loot box gambling addictions. You can crucify me for this, I already know the fact that I don't think IAPs/MTXs are the devil kind of differentiates me from a lot of the people I've seen comment on this type of things over the last year or two. Anyway, news is good, I'm hoping for good things, but I doubt Destiny can be "fixed" for me, nor would I want it to be. I'm just one retarded person, and not everyone can be pleased, so despite how much I wanted to like Destiny, and despite how I fucking purchase all the Destiny merch I see when I go to Game Stop (why, why do I DO THIS!?), I'm fine accepting that I'm just part of the crowd that can't be pleased. I'm just not good enough at video games to enjoy them, so I'll stick with JRPGs where no skill whatsoever is involved and I can get all the story I want.
Well the Blizzard thing may be an actuality. If the merger included stipulations that say if Activision does certain things in the partnership that poorly reflect on the entity as a whole, they could break away pretty clearly cut. Never seen the contract and have no idea how deep the Activision tendrils have sunk, but it is possible. I am hoping for it. They are literally killing Blizzard slowly just to gobble up IP into their greedy catalog it seems.

hell nah, but ill consider future Bungie titles.
Not me
But making content is to hard for bungie~~
I'd prob wait for Bungie's next IP. Wouldn't Activision get the money if you buy Destiny 2 right now?
Thought about that, think that anybody that took a stand and did not purchase Forsaken despite it being a good product should still wait, in my opinion. The burden of proof is on them. Let's see what they can do.
The difference is Bungie was in a partnership and Blizzard was acquired and isn’t going anywhere...but down the sterile mobile money hole.
I smell a Bungie Gamelauncher...

Ladies and gentlemen, we got 'em!
I still find it hilarious that Bungie left Microsoft because they felt their creativity was being squandered yet they made another space shooter ... *With ACTIVISION*
Lol
Well in 2010 Activision was a very different company and at the time it definitely was a good move to get destiny off the ground
@@bxnjo I don't know man, even back then people KNEW how bad Activision was considering how quickly they destroyed Guitar Hero and how frequently they were pumping out Call Of Duty. I remember people freaking out when they merged with Blizzard and look where we're at now
I hope Bungie ends up like CDPR. Focused on quality projects with a lot of respect from players. Only time will tell.
I hope Bungie and CDPR joins forces
Fair enough...but D2 is really good right now, despite what people who haven't played since CoO think they know...many people still see the game as it was then without having experienced forsaken...the game is a 100x better now than launch
@@hallowjupiter6305 based on the forums, I don't blame bungie for thinking the majority of the community is dumb...many complaints on things that people who hardly play give...jotuun came out and the same day people are asking for it to be nerfed...it's kind of comical to read the forums once in a while honestly
Now hopefully blizzard pulls out of activition.

Murdurface14 I think not!
I know this isn't a guarantee that Destiny's future will be good but I AM JUST SOO HAPPY RIGHT NOW!!
Again, most of the things you dislike from destiny and destiny 2 derives from Bungie decisions. Not Activision.
Halo>destiny they wont ever do that again.
Cody Rutherford Come on man, true or not let people enjoy the moment yeah?
Cody Rutherford why do you say that? if you take a minute to think about it without blocking logic with your anti-destiny/bungie bias then you can see that the yearly schedule imposed by Activision rushed Bungie to put out unfinished content (in some cases), Activision indirectly stated that it was them who was the cause of the monetization, and both destiny games were rebooted in development, which is especially weird when you consider that d2 was led by a hardcore gamer that used to play WoW, logically concluding that the reboots (at least for d2) most likely had something to do with Activision finding the game too inaccessible for the casual player.

Can you guys please predict Bioware splitting up with EA now?
Maybe another good developer buying them out then? like CDprojectred? Ah, who am i kidding...but one can dream right?@withouthinkin9

Yeah, they'll probably split up..... As soon as EA closes them.
After ANTHEM's release... in a bodybag.

Mission accomplished.... love it
I’ve lost interest in the vast majority of ‘modern’ games for a number of reasons.
You're the glass half empty kind of guy ehhh? 😄

Tbf, D1 and D2 have not been on a super good journey across the sea.
I have no hopes nor expectations. If Bungie succeeds, good, if not, then tough.

Bungie. Please just stay independent. Don't just do what you did when parting from Microsoft and get in bed with some other stifling publisher. You are big enough to do what you want. You said when leaving Microsoft that's what you wanted. Now please stick to it!!
Agreed, I never understood why they went to Activison in the first place. I remember them saying they left Microsoft b/c they wanted creative freedom. Then they went to one of the worst companies. Good on them. The industry needs more independent studios like CDPR, digital extremes, & unknow worlds (they made subnautica) Many more great ones out their just some I could think of.

youre a bitter guy huh?
You know that's what happened with Activision way back when they were created right?
You can tell how pumped the guys are by the sheer volume of memery going on in this video. Love it.
The one dislike is Activision.

Destiny immortal for mobile.......................
Well Blizzard would have to buy themselves out from Activision Blizzard. Activision and Blizzards parent company. And that won’t be happening
Yes but Bungie was probably pressured to make these bad decisions
Ptolemaic Thought well said
Activision didn't, not make sandbox changes and half baked, incomplete DLC, Bungie did that.
Dude fucking thank you like I'm pretty fucking sure these dudes covered the story of bungie asking Activision executives if they could abuse the in game store lol

they can't they are literally property of activision, they bought them and all their games
100 % agree, always dissapointed when people are so short sighted.

However many would say the compromises they made that fucked us were in response to pressure from Activision with the annualized schedule.
next i hope is blizzard's turn to exit the dumpster fire which is Activision. I'll buy the next bungie game just to support their move. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

10 Aussie bucks they sign a 10 year contract with EA.
