    I like how this channel addresses Palmetto/St Augustine grass (found in Miami Dade county, FL) issues. You get right to the point, thank you.

    How can I tell if my dead circles are fungus or chinch bugs? And can I treat for both at the same time?

    • @bettercallchadd
      @bettercallchadd  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's very uncommon in the winter for chinch bugs. I have a video called How to Treat chinch Bug's on my channel. That will teach how to look for chinch bugs. You will be able to see chinch bugs if that's the case. Also, the damage pattern is a little bit different.
      You would need to use two different products, a fungicide and a pesticide, to treat for both. My chinch bug video will go more into detail about treatment.

    Thanks! Great information. One question: we're still getting daily rains here in north Florida. Should I wait to apply the fungicide until they taper off?

    I’m in Georgia; nobody seems to sell good St Augustine grass here; what would be the best grass to mix with🤷🏼‍♀️Not my first choice, but……. Any recommendations? I do not like centipede ; so not doing that!

    • @bettercallchadd

      St.augustine bermuda mix well. Their look is different, but you can treat them with the same products.

      @pennytirello1400 Unfortunately, centipede, bermuda, or zoysia would be your best options. But I'm not thrilled, the biggest fan of zoysia, especially mixing it.

    I have moss on my lawn. I put baking soda on the moss area so they turn into yellow instead of light green color. What is the next step for me? Should I remove dead moss then spread some grass seed in the area?

    Selling my current home. Will never have St. Augustine, again. Much like red tip bushes, the plant has evolved to the point that it gets untreatable levels of fungus that it can't recover from. Was a great grass up until about 2000. Now, It's just a sickly ass, disease prone grass that is difficult to manage. You are way better off going with Zoysia in a shady yard. If you have a sunny yard, Bermuda can't be beat. If you are willing to apply fungicide at a higher level and more times a year than permitted, you can sort of control the SA fungus, but having "that perfect lawn" is no longer possible with St. Augustine

    Chad can treat as preventative?

    • @bettercallchadd
      @bettercallchadd  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. But it won't be very effective. The prevention will last for about 2 weeks.

    I started to rip up the dead patches and replant sod using the black Kow and leveling sand. I’m starting to think it’s fungus that is causing the dry patches. Is it alright to rip up bad grass patches, put dry fungicide on, put the black kow and sand mixture down. Than plant little sod plugs? Also it has been a rainy week in Florida.

    • @bettercallchadd
      @bettercallchadd  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Make sure the fungus is gone first. All you listed is absolutely the right thing but apply fungicide get the fungus under control then do those steps.

    I've just recently laid sod. The sod went from green to brownish dead spots. I've been watering 2 times/day here in south texas. Could it be a fungus issue? Can i lay fungicide on sod? I just don't want the sod to die out.

    • @bettercallchadd
      @bettercallchadd  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would make sure you know really know what it is. You can apply fungicide to sod but make sure it's really a fungus.

      @@bettercallchadd Hi thank you for the reply! Yea the fungus became worse after we had some rain. The blades turned yellow and orange, became thin and just started dying off. I sprayed fungicide and it looks like its slowly healing but definitely not the lush st. augustine. Thanks for your reply, i've been following your videos.
