I am 73. I don't dive, but I check what's on top. Clothes, art supplies, houseplants, decor items, and school supplies. Tina, Al's wife
We just had a haul of disinfectant from a truck accident. Because the truck was damaged, they couldn't deliver cases of disinfectant wipes. The boxes were slightly dented but the wipes were in perfect condition. Loaded my car and donated them to a bunch of animal rescues.

Lol the mannequin leg would make a cool lamp, like the one the dad had in "Christmas Story". I have seen videos of dumpster divers hauls. There is one, the "Queen" she gets stuff from Bath and Bodyworks, Sephora etc. Good stuff.
my husband is a maintnance man in an apt building. he brings stuff home a lot after cleaning out apartments. some really good stuff. glad were not the only ones who do this lol

Tax write off, I suspect. That's why so much food gets pitched.
Why can't the food be given to the homeless or shelters.some eat out of garbage cans it won't hurt them but help them
Because the things being thrown out typically have something wrong with them and the company tossing them in the bin don't want to risk being sued if someone gets sick or hurt from the product if they gave it way. It's not likely someone get sick or hurt, but even a tiny chance is enough to make higher ups in a big company say throw it out instead of donating bad product. Plus there's the potential damage to their brand if they get a rep for giving away "bad" product.
The sad thing is that all the donuts and eggs could really help the homeless shelters with their food costs. Donating those to various ministries could go a long way to helping feed people. And what does it say about our country, that we toss put so much useful stuff that hasn't been used or minimally used. All that clothing could also be donated. All the donations are tax write offs for corporations. Too crazy!

it is true ones trash is another's treasure,, what is sad is the amount of waste going on..... only the smallest fraction of dumps are rescued...
accessibility needs to change.... course then, like the thrift shops the 'sell online vultures' will sweep thru grabbing all the best finds... still better than the stuff ending up in landfills.... sigh

I came home a couple of weeks ago and there was a huge Samsung TV sitting in front of my apt. neighbors door. It sat there for several and I figured it was theirs and that it had died and they were going to get rid of it. I asked them about it and they said they had found it at the dumpster and I could have it if I wanted it. So i took it and it works fine. It replaced my earlier dumpster find TV.
watching this (and reading the comments too) reminded me of the times my dad finds random things outside a walmart he used to work at and the best find (he didnt think it was the best so he lent it to me) was a purple cameo fidget spinner

I would use anything but food from a dumpster. Anything can be cleaned.
Food cant, plus cant trust it has been stored properly. Especially refrigerated items.
Not to mention the thought of eating garbage disgusts me. I am not in a desperate position.
