  • Erling sat down with his father Alf-Inge Haaland to watch old clips of his dad playing in a City shirt!
    There are goals, bone-crunching challenges, missed opportunities and stories of Alfie’s time with City, and it is evident it was a period of his career he remains very proud of.
    Together they discuss Maine Road, the Etihad and how special the City supporters are and how much Erling is looking forward to celebrating in front of them.
    And there’s a nice touch at the end to go with the image of Erling’s famous City shirt with ‘Dad’ on the back.
    So, sit back and enjoy Erling and Alfie just being father and son on the video above as they journey down memory lane…

    • @Metali-tin
      @Metali-tin ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@DysfunctionJ City were still in the top 10 most successful clubs in English football before 2008. Despite their last major honour being a league cup in the 70s at the time. Leeds never reached the top 10 most successful list at any point(late comers) and only had equal at best levels of support to City, despite being a one club city. Newcastle only had one more major honour(10) and were also one club city with a large population but only had equal levels of support to City.
      It's the myths that bother City fans. This is perpetuated by 90s centric bias from people who don't know much about English football outside of the PL era. What happened to City in the 90s (4 seasons in a row in the wilderness) was the lowest point in the clubs long history and certain factions have tried to make that where City came from. What people are really doing there is using a clubs lowest point(a small part of their history) to fully represent them... Who else has got that treatment? I can't think of another club who's had it like that from so many. City were more of traditional big club than Chelsea were before their respective takeover for example that argument can easily be made with the facts but some people are that clueless these days they would look at you like you're making it up(who had more major honours, more seasons in the topflight, higher attendances overall historically?). Everton and Villa don't get the respect they deserve either unless when trying to put City down but nobody gets the BS narratives as bad as City fans have to put up with.
      There's so many myths about that era even outside of City though, like how competitive it was... The first 10 years of the PL was one of the least competitive eras in the history of the English game. United won 7 out of 10(Arsenal only one twice, Blackburn were the first to pip them to the title in the PL era) titles, back to back twice and one 3 in a row before Abramovich came along in 2003 to finally make things interesting. United still managed to do 3 in a row in the late 00s which IMO signified that they were about to regain their dominance until Sheikh Mansour's influence on City took effect. Arsenal were never going to keep competing with United for long on their own because Wenger ended up struggling to reach top 4 and to blame all that on Chelsea and City is short sighted. The league would have ended up how the Bundesliga has gone, BVB would probably be Liverpool a really well run club in a league were one club has become too strong for anyone to compete with consistently. The League needed investment into clubs like Chelsea and City because without it, the product would be nowhere near what it is today. La Liga would be reigning supreme, united would be doing 10 in a row.
      Another fact: City arrived at the big table before Spurs, Chelsea, Leeds or Forest. The latter two have fallen away IMO, so not only did they arrive in the top 10 much later, they didn't have the same logevity as City have shown either. Newcastle, Sunderland, Blackburn were clubs that had the majority of their success early and have mostly live off what happened in the 1890s-1910s. The Football League was still in it's infancy, football was not as widely watched and was not as competitive as what came in the decades after. Put it this way Arsenal had only been a topflight club for 5 years(1905) by 1911. Many clubs were just getting started. Those trophies are worth something but you can't place them above clubs that won in multiple eras that were more competitive(City had success in the 30s and again in the late 60s which was a very competitive era), certainly not forever, after they been well overtaken.

    Tbh I definitely see his father in him but what can say he must be proud of his son n haaland trying his best to make his father proud , these two are the best . Love how haaland is calm n humble like his old man for sure

    I've watched them both following city 47yrs. I'm just glad my son followed in my footsteps & now follows city all over. I had a choice of 2 teams as a kid, loved the ups & downs of following the blues.

    If Erling can make it to 36 goals, not only would he make his father proud, but also he'd have a shot at the Ballon D'or

      I expect around 25 in the league, let's see if he surprises in a positive or negative way.

      Injuries are his main concern. He's injury prone and the premier League is rough. If he can stay fit. He's 20+ a season for sure.

      If he stays healthy there’s no way he doesn’t score 20

    • @alexanderbanse
      @alexanderbanse ปีที่แล้ว

      If he scores 20+ and continues playing as good as he did in the Champions League winning City the CL, then he'll get the Ballon D'or for shure. There is no competition. Lewa too old, Benzema waa great last season, but old aswell. Mbappe plays in an irrelevant league.

      Maybe not Ballon D’or, He could probably have 50+ goals in a season and Messi could have 5 and still win it over Haaland.

    I never knew I needed to see before I saw it. Well done City it's so great watch a City legend and the future City legend talking with each other. Alfie it's great to see you and to see those moments pieces of history and seeing Erling's reactions to them.

      @@teodorilchev1627 this is where English ball got its bad rep. Roy Keane was a super huge bully as well but a mediocre baller compared.
