@@Divgitally Yes. Sad that I can not get my radeon 5700xt to work virtualized. Noticed that befofore too. Have to (play) with my RX570

Btw. If I don't have min 4 samesize ssds and can not get raid10, what is second best way to put ssd's in?

Well depends on where you wish to have the raid. If it is for Proxmox itself I'm not sure about a good way, but if it is for virtual machines, you could add all the hard drives and setup virtual hard drives the same size (not a great option)
For regular backup of virtual machines, you could look into Proxmox backup server if you have a spare machine.
I do not have the best time to reply right now but let me think about it and I'll try to remember to get back to you later if that is ok.

Ok, so what I would do is have raid 1 if two of the drives is the same size and then use one or both of the other drives for virtual machines with a backup routine to the raid.
Not sure if this helps, but if I get some details on the hardware and what you wish to do, I might be of better help.

Thank you for this. This is a really nice video and your information is on point! Much appreciated. I ponder if the GPU is useful through RDP. But I think an additional step using Parsec or similar tools take it back to a very useful state! Thanks for the video - really good stuff.

Thanks for the message! I have tested it with playing farcry 6 over RDP and Parsec and I have to agree with you, RDP works but Parsec was a better experience.

@@Divgitally RDP has a bit of capability for multi media, but its really not build for gaming across its API. There are various ways large enterprise has tried to tackle this. I was recently working on a site where they were trying to do this with citrix/vmware, GPUs both ends, and ... big money. 6 screens per person. From limited testing, cloud gaming, or moonlight/sunshine, or Parsec - from what I saw so far are - some of the few ways to get to 30/60fps gaming. Its fun to tech with, but an expensive challenge to solve!
Thanks for the video - I also looked at your website - all good stuff, you deserve more followers / interest!
      Cheers!

@@AdmV0rl0n Yeah, that does not sound cheap, especially with how the prices of graphics cards have been. But must be a really interesting project to work on! For my part, working with old and cheap hardware makes it more easy to ignore minor problems.
Thanks for the kind words. It really means a lot! I have not been at this long and I am impressed with the amount of views and subscribers so far! I might not be able to upload as often as I wish but I really enjoy uploading so far.

What if my client is a Linux machine what to do with remote desktop? Or what if I want to run the VM on the proxmox machine without any client machines?

    • @Divgitally

Hello! If you wish to use it locally with rdp, you can install xrdp on the Linux machine you wish to connect to. Otherwise you have a few other services that can be used like TeamViewer or VNC. If you wish to set up your own server for remote connections, you can also try RustDesk which is really versatile! What do you plan on using the Linux machine for?

@Divgital Hi Thanks for the quick reply. In short I want to use it as a dual boot computer no client machine(s). Linux(mint) for web browsing and Windows for some applications that only run on Windows. For starters I would be happy with that and later I could check out this : th-cam.com/video/lztH7BUxIoM/w-d-xo.html
Oh I don't need to run both Win and Linux to run simultaneous. So far I installed Proxmox, made 2 VM's LinuxMint and Windows, I can start it with a client machine but don't have sound and no PCIE passthrough configured yet. Oh just installed xrdp but it is nowhere to be found and doesn't start, oh well it linux you know :-) I check it out later.

@@edmundzed9870 cool! I ran my main machine like that on Proxmox for a while so i could use Windows specific programs and games there and the GPU for projects on Linux. Its been a while since i used xrdp but if i remember correctly, all you have to do is connect to it with remote desktop or Remmina. once it is installed.

@@Divgitally You lost me here. "all I have to do is connect TO "it" with Remmia ( forget xrdp, can't find any useful info ). So what exactly is "it" here? is that the Proxmox machine, if so
how do I connect to that from the linux (mint) client? Although I can run both LINUX and WINDOWS from the linux client, as soon as I try to passthrough the GPU I get "failed to server" and failed to run vncproxy. Whats more I see some messages on the proxmox machine during boot but I cannot read them so quick, where/how can I see whats going on?

    • @Divgitally
      @Divgitally  ปีที่แล้ว

@edmund zed Apologies! If you install xrdp on your Linux virtual machine, you should be able to use ip address of that machine in Remmina (Linux) or remote desktop (Windows). the vnc window in Proxmox stops working when a gpu is passed through. If possible, you could try to connect a display to the gpu and see if it outputs something.

The settings in the bios might be named differently, but everything in Proxmox should be the same.
