It makes me so happy to see that you loved this!!! It's my absolute favorite song from Taylor Swift! How can you go wrong with strings, drums, bells, guitars and her vocals, all in one song? It's perfection! I love how hard the instrumentals drive, but how vulnerable the lyrics are. That contrast is compelling, for sure.
It's one of my favourite songs of all time, not just a favourite song of Taylor's. I'm a huge Swiftie but somehow I slept on Haunted for years! To my utter shame 😅 it's so good. Has this guy reacted to All Too Well 10 minute version yet? I'd love to see that. I'll have a look later on when I get home.

Great reaction. A reminder when diving into a long career, context is key. Haunted was written by a teenager while This is Me Trying was written by a 30 year old. Making a lateral comparison of lyrical maturity between the two isn’t a fair fight 😂

Her vocals in this video may be because the studio version is from 2023 and the performance is from 2010 haha ❤ she was only a teenager in this performance. She got criticised for her vocals during 2006-2011 and she is 20x better now

Listened to the old version, acoustic version and again to the new and live versions a lot these past few days. Her vocals back then were amazing too. 🥰
Such a privilege to witness you discovering the awesome talent of Ms. Swift. Haunted is my #1 favorite TS song of all time. Part of what makes this album (Speak Now) so fantastic is that she wrote it completely on her own, with no co-writers, from ages 18-20, both the lyrics and the music. She was 20 or 21 during this performance, while the SNTV studio version you listened to was recorded when she was 32, which will account for some vocal changes, but I find the differences to be minimal considering the amount of time that has passed. She has always been very theatrical in her performances and planned out the sets herself, even as far back as this one. She played Haunted as an acoustic surprise song on June 9 in Detroit. Not so animated without a set or dancers and while playing guitar, but she sounded amazing! Looking forward to your next one!

I don’t know if anyone mentioned this, Taylor's Speak Now album was 100% written by her, no co-writers. People kept saying she wasn't writing her own music, so she wrote this entire album by herself. The Speak Now concert tour was in 2011.

midnights shudve been a soft rock album rather than wut we got….midnights wudve been one of the best albums if it was but instead its one of her lowest due to how boring it is
And she’s just 20 in this video, I think. She wrote these songs when she was 19-ish. Oh, and the strings might be live… Back to December had a row of violinists on that bridge behind her. There’s also a fiddler in Mean and Our Song who dances with her, which is fun. (All in the same show.) She highlighted them in the other songs, but it’s possible she thought they needed a break where they got to sit down or something. I noticed while watching Speak Now and Reputation that she seems to time her solos and acoustic versions after the dancers and backup singers do something extra challenging. She stays on stage and talks to the audience, plays her own music, etc, and then they all come back for their next big moment? Maybe I’ve watched those too many times, haha. That’s why I like watching the whole thing instead of watching it as isolated songs, though. I find the transitions interesting. I would definitely be interested in seeing you react to the full Speak Now or Reputation tour. (My unpopular Swift opinion is that 1989 wasn’t as good as the others…) Or the Long Pond Studio Sessions… Or even the Miss Americana documentary. But those are all rather long, haha. Anyway, I absolutely love this song, too. And the live version with the aerial silk dancers dropping from the bells just blows my mind. I’ve only been to two concerts… Avril Lavigne during her 2002-ish tour and Spice Girls before that. (We won the tickets.) Neither one had anything on the Swift shows I’ve watched on TH-cam/Netflix. I wish I could have gotten tickets to the Eras tour, haha. Anyway, loved your reaction. Nice to see this song get some appreciation!!

Thanks! :) I knew going into it that her lyrics are amazing. That said, I suck at picking up and analyzing lyrics :D What's been my biggest surprise and love has been how intricate the musical details are. A small melody coming and going briefly on different instruments in the background, gorgeous soundscapes backing up the audio and general amazing melodies for example :D
you'd be surprised how good her articulations are on live versions nowadays. she really got to work on her vocals in the past years EDIT: she's already played Haunted at the eras tour as a surprise song, you can look it up on YT, but she will most likely have to restart the list for international dates cuz she doesnt have enough songs to play for all shows.
This is my number 1 favorite performance as well as song from her like the instrumental, the vocals, the drama, just everything about this song is amazing, as much I love this song acoustically, I wish she performed it like this again
I love this song so much honestly. It’s one of my favourites even though lyrically it’s not her strongest. I just adore the sound, the instruments, the vocal performance, the drama. It’s just amazing!! I think if the lyrics wee complex it would take away from the sound of it or just get lost in the sounds. Haunted doesn’t get enough love. The only upside about haunted not being on the setlist is that it could be one of your surprise songs!! I’ve been hoping it’s one of mine. She usually chooses two songs from anywhere in her song catalogue and plays them as surprise songs on top of the set list!!
She expresses each words she says in all her songs like the clicking sound of pen before singing 'and I'll write your name' in Blank space or the breathy vocals while singing the line 'lavender haze' or temporary stopping the music after singing ' say my name and everything just stops' in the song Dress... The list is long.😅
I am loving following you on this journey you've undertaken! It's not often that people are newly discovering her AND recording the discovery for all to see. I have no doubt you'll be a full-blown Swiftie come time for you and your wife to see her live :) Thanks for the videos!

Thanks for watching them! At the rate I'm doing right now, I'd say I'm pessimistic when I estimate I'll be a full blown Swiftie within a month or two 😅
i’m finally binge watching all your taylor content after having it in my recommended and in my watch later playlist and i’m loving your reactions! taylor was my top artist on my spotify wrapped (of course) but also, haunted was my top song for the year! (as well as this concert, the speak now world tour being my first ever concert when i was 8 here in australia!) i LOVE this song and glad you do too :)
AHHHH I am so glad you liked it! Speak Now was my first concert for Taylor ever and the SECOND I saw Haunted live I was hooked on her. 12 years later and here I am :) Haunted is incredible, it's so different and was different from what she usually had back then and it is just absolutely incredible.
truth be told this song really captured my attention on Taylor Swift music too... that was what made me get this new album..this song is just \m/ A fellow metal head too! Thank you sir the review and subscribded too! Peace and Metal \m/
Haunted is so good!! The whole speak now album has some rock and alt elements thrown in there. + i really want to see you react to the reputation album especially the live version. The live versions of the songs are so incredible.
The whole speak now album is her closest attempt to do rock. I loved this era too because I am a sucker for good guitars. Since you enjoyed this, I’d also recommend Red (Taylor’s Version) (the song). It’s a good mix of country and rock too
This! Everyone is recommending Reputation when they should be recommending Story of Us: the drums, real guitars, angst, it goes hard. Better than Revenge has real drums and an edgy sound. Maybe even Sparks Fly or Long Live. I also think he might like Picture to Burn because of the mandolin and strings lol Love Reputation, but it’s definitely more synth pop even borderline electronic.
In reference to the difference between her voice on the first clip v the Live. Please note that Speak Now Tour is 2011 and the first clip you played is re recorded Taylor’s Version 12 years later. Her voice has matured.
Suggest - "We will never get back together" - first see "Taylor Swift - We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together (at the grammy)" and then (and only then) from the 1989 tour called "Taylor Swift 1989 World Tour - We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" As different as two performances can be.
I loved how much you loved the song and then felt so sad for you that it’s not on the set list!! It’s still a great concert though. You’re going to have a blast!
She sings surprise songs (right before the midnights set) and she never repeats them. But she sang Haunted in Detroit. And it was acoustic. BUT who knows she might bring it back! If you look it up you'll probably find it.
Her albums are great, but she brings the songs to life in concert and tours. Always bigger and better version. Speak now is way back for me, I start paying attention with Reputation album and tour. Funny how she have this thing for Notre Dame de Paris - the French musical, even back then - bells, acrobatic dancers. But is totally visible in Reputation tour film.
I get interesting Evanescence - Vibes from this. Try to replace her voice with Amy Lee - works too! Don´t know how I got there but it somehow feels super nostalgic like this. What an amazing piece of art
Definitely important to get the live version from the 1989 tour as it’s a unique rock version that I’m pretty sure you’ll flip for. Album version is a bop too of course, but the live rock version is an EXPERIENCE. Especially since you liked Haunted. Get ready to join the, “Taylor, please make a rock album” club 😅
I would love to see Taylor try her hand at more symphonic metal style music. I thought that the first time I heard this (when it was new), and know she could pull it off-- much like just about any genre she plays with. I love Symphonic metal.
2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1
The best of two world, really! Symphonic music is incredible and so is metal 😊
Exactly, and can you imagine how amazing that would be now? She originally wrote that song when she was still a teenager. She's now an adult, who is one hell of a song writer. Her lyrics are absolutely ethereal. If she did a full symphonic metal album? That would be just complete magic. Though, admittedly, I do wonder if her vocals could handle a full symphonic metal album. One of the things I love about it, is as a singer, I love singing things that are more dynamic in volume, power, and range. I like the challenge. She is an amazing musician, and a great singer, but I do think she might struggle to be able to do a full album and perform it. I noticed in later albums, she does actually shy away from power vocals and power notes.
2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1
@@lunakitara true, but I get the feeling it's more style and preference than skill.
Fer 4 first albums had mostly real instruments, probably because of the country influence . She switched to digital drums and the like when she went 80's pop with her 1989 album. She always has live real instruments during her tours which is why I love the live versions more. PS: That's a great shirt.
Love your vids!! You should definitely check out Taylor's song called “Ronan”, it was written as a tribute to a little boy who passed away from cancer and it’s definitely her saddest song but also one of her most beautifully written songs. Keep up the great content 👍
I know she at least had a fiddle player on tour with her then but I think you’re right in the fact that the orchestral elements are prerecorded. Which I’m a strings fan myself and I went to Speak Now Tour (granted I was 13) but I know I would’ve diedddd for a live orchestra
ปีที่แล้ว
100% fair to use recorded strings live. You'd need a fair few players for a piece like this and if it's only for a song or two, that's a lot of cash to burn on a detail on a performance. Mad respect if it WAS live, totally understand if it wasn't. Even symphonic artists, like Nightwish, use recorded strings for 99% of shows
Hello. Loved that you loved the song. On the live version... I Could be wrong but I think the strings are off to the side on the right hand of the stage or right behind the bridge structure. Granted she wouldn't have like the whole strings section but there might be at least 3 violins and 1 cello (one of the violins being Taylor's band member Caitlin her fiddler/violinist/back up singer) I say this because when it comes to instrumentals unless it is like electronic (edm type thing) she most likely will have the instrument live specialy for a concert.
ปีที่แล้ว +1
Doesn't surprise me the least after what I've learned about her live shows 🥰
If you want to pay closer attention to backing vocals and instrumental on this song I recommend you listen to the dolby atmos of haunted, it’s on TH-cam and it’s around 12 minutes long!
I’m pancakes over Waffles myself. Can’t wait for like False God , AfterGlow and Tolerate It!!! You whole journey really. Wait to you see her articulate live I’d say since 1989. Incredible evolution. Many live better then recording even vocally.🥰💙🙏🏻(Homy crap, you are saying what I just commented. I commented before end. Lol)
I'm pretty sure the strings are live in the Speak Now World Tour performance. Watch the performance of Back To December from the same tour and there isn't any doubt about the strings being live in that one. th-cam.com/video/EQP8hiDaces/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=EASMusicChannel Taylor's vocals are very much improved in all of the re-recordings, but her younger, imperfect vocals are what made her the superstar she is today and in many cases I prefer the original recordings. But I love having the Taylor's Versions as well as they are also amazing.
yeah, unfortunately she's not very rocky on this tour. She has a shortened version of Don't Blame me, which you'll probably like. You Belong with Me also has a bit of rockiness to it
I think another artist you could check out that delves a bit into some rock/metal is AURORA, she is inspired by metal and movie soundtracks with her music. I think some songs youll like, or atleast check out is "Running With The Wolves," "Under The Water, "Soft Universe, "The Seed," and "Blood in The Wine"
ปีที่แล้ว
Down the line, when I reach beyond the Swift-verse, definitely will!
I was searching for an old dance track from the 90s by Aurora and it took me ages to find it because apparently there's a newer artist with the same name. I checked out a couple of her songs and she seems pretty cool. I think I saw her do a piano cover or a keyboard version of something that was really good but I can't remember what it was now.
I like this song too. There's a youtube channel that provides really good quality videos of her live performances from a couple of her tours. I suggest checking that site out for future live performance videos. Here's a link to this performance on that channel. th-cam.com/video/Vm_M4ddzDUI/w-d-xo.html Her music was still considered "country", but you could tell that she really was spreading her wings beyond that genre. She loves performing and loves hearing the crowds cheer and making them enjoy her concerts.

Awesome! Thanks! I mean, who wouldn't love having an audience go nuts like hers do?! 🤣 She was amazing live in this one
Anyway, my daughter's been following her for years now and I never paid much attention, I thought "yeah surely she's other hollow product ala Rihanna, Beyoncé and the likes". But this year my daughter turned 15 and bagged for tickets to the Eras Tour and so after much trouble we got 2 tix. So, as it was me who was gonna take her and me being a metalhead myself I asked her: ok does she have some rockers for me to kind of get into her? And she came up with this one and Better than revenge. And boy Haunted absolutely DESTROYED me. From then on I am slowly but constantly becoming a Swiftie Dad. Totally enjoyed the concert and now discovering her.

Taylor remade her first 6 albums, the video was a newer version of the song. The live video is older, she could have changed things up with the newer version.

This is my number 1 favorite performance as well as song from her like the instrumental, the vocals, the drama, just everything about this song is amazing, as much I love this song acoustically, I wish she performed it like this again
At this point we know Taylor can do any genre and we're here for all of them
I love this song so much honestly.
Hahaha you honor me ❤️❤️❤️
keep making those videos!!! i’m at work and you’re making me go through an awful day!!! love your reactions, they are very sincere and deep. ❤
Thank you! I will!
Hope you can power through the work day! I believe in you! 🥰
I hope she sings this as one of her interchangeable songs when you see her live!
Taylor definitely needs to do a rock album!! I am for it too.
From the vault of all speak now is amazing
I'll try to make it a priority! ❤️
WOW such a great thorough reaction/analysis!
The whole speak now album is her closest attempt to do rock. I loved this era too because I am a sucker for good guitars.
Since you enjoyed this, I’d also recommend Red (Taylor’s Version) (the song). It’s a good mix of country and rock too
Oooh! Consider my interest peaked
This! Everyone is recommending Reputation when they should be recommending Story of Us: the drums, real guitars, angst, it goes hard. Better than Revenge has real drums and an edgy sound. Maybe even Sparks Fly or Long Live.
I also think he might like Picture to Burn because of the mandolin and strings lol
Love Reputation, but it’s definitely more synth pop even borderline electronic.
It’s the Liberty Bell to represent Independence! Nice reaction!
Oh that's a niiice touch! ❤️
speak now always be my favourite album
This song it’s one of my favorite songs from Taylor. She sang as a surprise song at the eras tour in Detroit N1
Also highly recommend you listen to “highway don’t care” which is technically a Tim McGraw song, but Taylor sings chorus and Keith urban plays guitar.
In reference to the difference between her voice on the first clip v the Live. Please note that Speak Now Tour is 2011 and the first clip you played is re recorded Taylor’s Version 12 years later. Her voice has matured.
Her guitar solo guy hasn't aged a bit of changed his hair in these years. I love him.
She wrote this song solo at 18 or 19 and she was only 1 of 2 producers on the original album ❤❤❤
🤍 this is one of my favorite live performances by her
So good! ❤️
Suggest - "We will never get back together" - first see "Taylor Swift - We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together (at the grammy)" and then (and only then) from the 1989 tour called "Taylor Swift 1989 World Tour - We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together"
As different as two performances can be.
Oh I was really hoping you would listen to this one! Love your reactions!
I love this song!!! The live version is amazing too!! I wish she would do a rock album too
I loved how much you loved the song and then felt so sad for you that it’s not on the set list!! It’s still a great concert though. You’re going to have a blast!
She sings surprise songs (right before the midnights set) and she never repeats them. But she sang Haunted in Detroit. And it was acoustic. BUT who knows she might bring it back! If you look it up you'll probably find it.
Witnessing her perform Haunted acoustic version in Detroit was one of top things to happen this year
We call this genre Swemo 🧚♀️
Love your comments on the album version I’m so keen to see you react to the live version
Ok, now the swifties have to get on this so that Taylor hears about it and plays haunted at your concert 😊
❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love this song! It reminds me of Evanescence, who I also love! ❤ I’m not a big swiftie but Taylor definitely has some good songs!
Some evanescence is always welcome in my life 🥰
I get interesting Evanescence - Vibes from this. Try to replace her voice with Amy Lee - works too! Don´t know how I got there but it somehow feels super nostalgic like this. What an amazing piece of art
Amy Lee is amazing too 🥰
if you liked this live performance wait till you see her later stuff. She is good here but she gets better the older she gets.
Looking forward to experiencing it first hand too!
you should try listen to we are never ever getting back togheter rock live version, that she did in the 1989 tour
Yeah might do that one next! 🥰 got tomorrow all booked up with my monthly video game music show on the gaming channel but definitely later this week!
@ Actually you should do the studio version first, then do the live rock version, she did it when she was in Sidney Australia.
@@Violet316 yeah, I'll try to cover the studio versions first in any case. Adds to the live experience i think
@ Thanks, the actual song is very poppy, but not when Taylor grunge's it up with her electric guitar.
Crossing my fingers for you that Haunted is a surprise song for the date you go to the Eras tour
I would love to see Taylor try her hand at more symphonic metal style music. I thought that the first time I heard this (when it was new), and know she could pull it off-- much like just about any genre she plays with. I love Symphonic metal.
@@lunakitara true, but I get the feeling it's more style and preference than skill.
Likely, yeah. The newer music tends to be more mellow stylistically.
this is bay taylor sooo cute
Fer 4 first albums had mostly real instruments, probably because of the country influence . She switched to digital drums and the like when she went 80's pop with her 1989 album. She always has live real instruments during her tours which is why I love the live versions more.
PS: That's a great shirt.
Thanks! 🥰
she had live strings on other songs on this tour! idk why she didn’t for this song. i remember violinists being there when i went
That's awesome! 🥰
Love your vids!! You should definitely check out Taylor's song called “Ronan”, it was written as a tribute to a little boy who passed away from cancer and it’s definitely her saddest song but also one of her most beautifully written songs. Keep up the great content 👍
Love your Taylor journey!
I know she at least had a fiddle player on tour with her then but I think you’re right in the fact that the orchestral elements are prerecorded. Which I’m a strings fan myself and I went to Speak Now Tour (granted I was 13) but I know I would’ve diedddd for a live orchestra
100% fair to use recorded strings live. You'd need a fair few players for a piece like this and if it's only for a song or two, that's a lot of cash to burn on a detail on a performance. Mad respect if it WAS live, totally understand if it wasn't. Even symphonic artists, like Nightwish, use recorded strings for 99% of shows
The beginning reminds me of that Siberian orchestra that does that Christmas song.
The live version was really fun to watch
You gotta listen to the live rock version of we are never ever getting back together! It’s incredible 😊
Doesn't surprise me the least after what I've learned about her live shows 🥰
Super great reaction, thank you.
Thank you ❤️
It's one of her songs that could be covered by a full symphony Orchestra or a metal band. It's an example how she is truly beyond genre...
Why not both? 😏 At the same time!
Have you seen the DragonForce cover of "Wildest Dreams"?
@@ZATennisFan yeah, loved it 🥰
Loved your reaction! You should also check out her bad blood/shoud have said no live performance during rep tour!
Oh no! The intro of the live version of Haunted was cut! That's the best part! There's a longer version here: th-cam.com/video/Vm_M4ddzDUI/w-d-xo.html
Didn't know there was more! The video I used started out right there. Will watch yours RIGHT NOW! Need more Haunted!
Okay, that longer intro is just even more perfection!
If you want to pay closer attention to backing vocals and instrumental on this song I recommend you listen to the dolby atmos of haunted, it’s on TH-cam and it’s around 12 minutes long!
"SHE COULD BE SINGING ABOUT PANCAKES AND I WOULD STILL LOVE IT!!!" ...as a longtime swiftie, uh... same LOL
A food-era next? I'm down!
@ im hoping there will be album variants for Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Versions
@@eterhnite A recipe for success!
I’m not exaggerating when I say haunted live changed my life on the speak now tour
Now I'm curious to hear the full story! 🥰
Watch the performance of Back To December from the same tour and there isn't any doubt about the strings being live in that one. th-cam.com/video/EQP8hiDaces/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=EASMusicChannel
Taylor's vocals are very much improved in all of the re-recordings, but her younger, imperfect vocals are what made her the superstar she is today and in many cases I prefer the original recordings. But I love having the Taylor's Versions as well as they are also amazing.
Remember Taylor is a journey from age 16 to 34.
Guys keep checking your sub list. Ive noticed lately YT has un-subbed me from a lot of my fav channels.
Espcially my T Swift reactors.
♥️♥️♥️♥️
yeah, unfortunately she's not very rocky on this tour. She has a shortened version of Don't Blame me, which you'll probably like. You Belong with Me also has a bit of rockiness to it
It's my fav.
I got a John Mayer ad to this video BAHAHA the irony lmao
Hahaha good! Means he wasted ad money on someone who won't care for it 🤣
HAUNTED IS THE BEST SONG IN THE WHOLEEEEE WORLD💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
those strings from the intro share the same pattern as the intro in No Leaf Clover by Metallica 8)
She didn't do a lot from Speak Now because it had its own tour.
I'll keep hoping for it but not expecting it :D
@ So I'll I!
Has anyone recommended the rock version of We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together? If not, I think you’ll love that version.
I like this song too. There's a youtube channel that provides really good quality videos of her live performances from a couple of her tours. I suggest checking that site out for future live performance videos. Here's a link to this performance on that channel. th-cam.com/video/Vm_M4ddzDUI/w-d-xo.html
Her music was still considered "country", but you could tell that she really was spreading her wings beyond that genre.
Sounds like I should check out Better than Revenge!
@ oh you should my man! And/or Electric Touch feat. Fall Out Boy.
@@JMGarcia0303 I like the sound of that! 🥰 Adding it to my to-do
Taylor remade her first 6 albums, the video was a newer version of the song. The live video is older, she could have changed things up with the newer version.
pausing on the "Ballet Hands" 😅
Haunted STAN the way I lose my mind during this song. Like the metallica X trans siberian orchestra christmas song 😅
I also have to play the bell because I AM dramatic 😂😂😂😂
🔥🤘
you should do the whole speak now since is her closest to rock álbum!
I dont mean t disappoint you, but she played it as a suprise song already. As a german swiftie, i hope she restarts as soon as the international part starts
live Taylor is best Taylor
we got robbed of the acoustic of haunted taylor’s version 😢
would’ve loved to hear that one
Discovered it later and have binged it! It's great! 😍
@ right?? it’s so good
