Replacing the auxiliary battery under the bonnet worked for me. This battery controls the auto stop/start and the balance between engine and electric power but only has a 4-5 year lifespan. Mine lasted 7 years and 60,000 miles but with the new battery my car drives like new again.

This happened to me when i was doing some pulls against a hellcat. It scared the living shit out of me lol had the car about a week, also i was really low on gas which i think was the problem. Like u said i turned off the car turned it back on went to fill up and the car was completely fine after that
Go to the nearest freeway after driving the car normally for 20-30 minutes. Push the car from 1800RPM to 3800 RPM for 10-15 minutes. The car is good to go 🚀

Features, value, and if they're as effective as what you might need to know if you went to a dealership/indy shop just for codes to be read when it could be something you could fix at home? Don't know if you've published a video on that topic already like with the different tuning companies.
Ended up being the server module, had to remove the manifold and start digging by the time that was done, diagnostics done numerous times, found the EMU and TSP had been fouled by the Server inside the motor, so it was an expensive fix. Wish it had been a diy tried everything, all systems would read ok but believe me a half second after hitting the excelerator it would creep along at approximately 4 miles an hour. I did everything from oil change to new spark plugs, nothing worked that was a dead giveaway it was more serious. One thing I would caution though, if you've tried everything from the diy standpoint take it to a reputable mechanic who works on BMWs, BMW has proprietary rights and they have to coordinate the reset on the vehicles computer.
ok i kept gettin this with squeaky wastegate. now there is a new turbo installed. in which wastegate should not be squeaking but it is.;-( i cant understand why new turbo wastegate would squeak. i hav protool and esys, etc etc. after new turbo i still get drivetrain malfunction on idrive. but usually when gas and or battery is low. is this normal? car on idle will idle funny shaking somewhat sometimes.. all new plugs and coilpacks are new also.another code also says wategate sluggish. wen battery is full charge it seems to start and not idle funny. i cant understand why these things would happen on a low battery, what do u think

Dirty vanos!!! Me an my brother in law changed his leaky rocker cover and gasket on m135i, after we finished we got this message. We kept thinking we'd missed a sensor or something, it turned out to be dirty vanos solenoids, sprayed with brake cleaner and good as new. Was just a massive coincidence in the end 😂

I'm only on bm3 stage 1 93 but when I'm hitting 360s it does this often enough but I think its understandable bc we are full sending the car making it do something it wasn't intended to do. drifting in general is usually pretty hard on any cars components not to say there isn't a way to fix the code from popping up though. Now that I know you can scan it at a dealership I am interested to see what exactly the car thinks is wrong.
Not really. It's just their version on limp mode related to engine issues. Usually paired with one or more disabled cylinders to protect the engine. You can get a check engine light without a drivetrain warning

I got a mixture too lean code randomly after starting my car a month ago. Ran some logs and the timing was perfect, AFRs looked good, no rail pressure crashes (target was = actual) so I cleared the code. Never came back and I’ve been keeping and eye on my logs every so often. Hopefully it was an one-off issue. I do have a flex fuel kit from bootmod3 and am running E-blends. Not sure if it was some random glitch that caused the sensor to throw an exception, causing the the code. I should be safe…right? Lol…

Had an oil change and had the the brake fluid topped, all scans were perfect, the car started and the screen stated all systems ok. Then suddenly on the way home the drivetrain message showed up and it went into limp mode. Recommendations please.

I got a bmw m5 f90 2018. It drives fine. As soon i floor it, it goes into limp mode/drivetrain malfunction. I realised the expansion tank is leaking which is a common fault. Got it changed. Drove it again and floored it and came up again. Scanned it and I got a 120408 code. Any idea what it can be?
@kern417 i found out what is it. Expansion tank leak has damaged coil packs from 5 to 8. So need to change that with spark plugs. Plus it manage to mess up rocker cover gasket so had to get that changed. Now the car drives perfectly fine. This was all because of the expansion tank leaking and not chnaging it on time

They have have fuel pump written on it, could the fuel pump be bad and need to be replaced? I started the car and Rpm’s were jumping like crazy, car started shaking and then drivetrain malfunction popped up.

hey kern, i was wondering if you can help me with a fuel pump problem. I followed your guide for a B58TU pump install on my 2018 M240. And when i installed the pump the car wont start. When i put back the old pump the car starts fine. Am i suppose to configure the ECU?
it does not need any custom settings. double check your work, make sure it's fully plugged in. you can also scan for codes after the car fails to start to see what's wrong.
Found out my malfunction was caused by the spark plug module and the computer(ecu) guess it got wet but does that cause lost of power and shaking when in limp mode ?
ive had this happen twice whenever i unplug my battery, however i also got other codes that were the same as the codes i saw when my car was being flashed by MHD, both times i just reflashed my mhd tune and it all goes away
i figured it was not anything serious as it was as soon as i connect my battery again and started the car, i assume the unplugging of the battery messes with my tune, as it throws the same codes that the tune does before its flashing, so i just always have my mhd wifi adapter ready everytime i disconncet the battery just to be safe.
Hoping you can give some Insight. Recently had my m340 tuned and now when I open throttle from 0 I get drivetrain malfunction n go into limp mode. Off n on fixes it temporarily but comes back. Some ppl are saying wheel spin I don’t think so. I think was custom tuned too aggressive. I took it back to tuner they took a few psi’s off. He drove it said it didn’t come up for him. I got the car back and of course did it for me. What do u think issue could be ? In the codes there was something with the fuel code. Was thinking needed to add hpfp to keep the power but nothing for my car that I can find. Do you think it’s still tuned too aggressive ?
My m340i has around 42k miles and i noticed it was wastegate sluggish, wastegate stop start position not found. Went outside checked under the hood and wastegate arm is open. So im guessing wastegate actuator? any help from anyone or opinion would be nice please comment what else i should check for.

it could be, or maybe your o2 sensor freaked out for a second. just keep an eye on it.

like the video says, scan for codes and go from there. use a tool like bimmerlink that can give you the more detailed 6-digit bmw code.

That's just a limp mode code. There should be other codes. Or run a log
@kern417 i saw cylinder 6 misfire. Maybe the leaking coolant has damaged the spark plugs and even the coil
Could be anything. Try switching them to different cylinders to see if the codes move

Sounds like the in tank fuel pump or ekp is on its way out

i figured it was not anything serious as it was as soon as i connect my battery again and started the car, i assume the unplugging of the battery messes with my tune, as it throws the same codes that the tune does before its flashing, so i just always have my mhd wifi adapter ready everytime i disconncet the battery just to be safe.
It shouldn't affect the tune. Scan for codes to see what they say

Mine turned out to be a battery issue. New battery, no problem.

Hoping you can give some Insight. Recently had my m340 tuned and now when I open throttle from 0 I get drivetrain malfunction n go into limp mode. Off n on fixes it temporarily but comes back. Some ppl are saying wheel spin I don’t think so. I think was custom tuned too aggressive. I took it back to tuner they took a few psi’s off. He drove it said it didn’t come up for him. I got the car back and of course did it for me. What do u think issue could be ? In the codes there was something with the fuel code. Was thinking needed to add hpfp to keep the power but nothing for my car that I can find. Do you think it’s still tuned too aggressive ?

My m340i has around 42k miles and i noticed it was wastegate sluggish, wastegate stop start position not found. Went outside checked under the hood and wastegate arm is open. So im guessing wastegate actuator? any help from anyone or opinion would be nice please comment what else i should check for.
Pull the intake and inspect it
