Its a kiss off to their haters. The lyrics show that . They have a lot a rap/pop mixed together. Also, the switch between English and Korean very interesting how they do that.

Their songs are a journey, and it’s so fun discovering all their content.
No one chooses to get into BTS, it just sorta happens naturally.

From a lifelong heavy metal fan, BTS sank their hooks in me about 3 years ago. Stay openminded and listen to some more of their music. The word "pop" does not define BTS. They are so much more than that. They cross all genres of music and talent is unmatched! I hope you continue to explore BTS's music. You won't be sorry!

This is what I think too. BTS is different from the other groups. I have notice there are several new groups trying to copy BTS. Even trying to steal their come up story. The group I'm talking about is from a big agency that has gotten everything handed to them. Not BTS' story. BTS had to scrap and claw every step.

Im a metal lover too but BTS is like no one else. They can't be put in a box. They do it all. Rap, hip hop, poo, they can melt your face off or bring love and hope. And they're 7 of the most humble, sweetest, close knitted, caring, people in the world. Everyone is a superstar on their own. They sing, dance, write, produce and they do it all better than everyone. They truly came from very meager beginnings as individuals and as a group in a tiny, unheard of company. They've even spoken at the United Nations.
Throw all expectations from so called dirty words like pop or boy band out the window because they shatter all stereotypes while breaking records and language barriers. And all their videos have subtitles. :)
I'm die hard ARMY!! Please more BTS!!

please turn on the cc button bts lyrics are the most important part about their music and why theyre so big. they write and produce their own music. theres 7 members 3 rapper 4 vocalists all 7 have their own solo music too. they been a group since 2013. their music touches on deep topics unlike most pop music. they talk about mental health, self love, social issues, etc they do have love songs but even those are a lot more creative than typical love songs in my humble opinion.
bts is closer to rock bands in terms of audience, crowds at concerts, selling out albums, places they tour etc. they tour all over the wirld in sold out stadiums and armys their fans still heavily buy physical albums.
you can probably find a lot of similarities between bts and rock bands than you would find between bts a pop artists.
please react to this is bts introduction to bts by Xceleste and bts vs kpop by bbygangmag we will watch long reactions also dont stick to music videos please also check out bts songs without music videos use channels like af taehyung or dial6137 for great lyric videos. most english websites who have bts lyrics arent translating correctly if you prefer a website use doolsetbangtan theyre a trusted source as theyre korean American who translates bts lyrics into English.

If you like BTS, and you like metal/rock vibe, you will probably enjoy their group songs "Fake Love" and "Dionysus". They also release solo and sub unit songs (with only one or several members). Along the genre you prefer, you might also like "Daechwita" (solo by BTS member Suga, who goes by Agust D on his solo stuff, "Shadow" (also by Suga), and "UGH" by the 3 BTS rappers.

    • @marissa1341
      @marissa1341 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

As someone who is a rock and metal person, when I checked out Fake Love and Dionysus when i first started to get into them, I definitely didn't think metal or rock vibes, though they have some of the foundation there. It was definitely not what grabbed me to BTS though. Actually disliked Dionysus at first until I saw a live.
Best songs to recommend to a metal/rock fan is Lie or Black Swan. It has the classical bent most of us love and the drama and the deep lyrics. Actually most of all of Wings album, Tear Album and 7 album.
Daechwita is also an excellent choice though. As is Agust D and Ugh. Oh and N.O., and Am I Wrong would be great too with some backstory, a rock fan loves a good f u to the establishment.

@@marissa1341 Thanks for the perspective of a rock fan! I know when non rock/metal fans (like me, although I do enjoy from time to time) think of that genre we think guitar guitar, and more guitar. But it makes sense that fans of the music enjoy it for the drama and the depth and instrumentals.

When you realize that MIC DROP was released almost 5 yrs ago. They've already reached at this level back then😊 Thank you for your open mind!! Music is just music. You can enjoy BTS. Why not? They have top-notch production value, versatile music and amazing live performance. My suggestions for your next are "On(Kinetic manifesto film)" and "Black Swan" with Eng CC!

Great reaction! You guys are right ~ this isn’t ordinary pop music. BTS is different ~ they bring something new to the table. They are their own genre. They have established themselves to be a force to be reckoned with, and they bring the attitude to demand your attention! So glad you liked Mic Drop! Some other BTS videos you need to see are Dope, Fire, Blood Sweat & Tears, ON, Butter, Dynamite, Idol, Black Swan, and Baepsae (the dance practice video). They sing and rap, and their choreography is off the charts. I hope you enjoy your BTS journey. They really are amazing…☺️

Hey! Welcome to BTS. There's a lot of us rock fans that are BTS Armys, I know a lot of heavy metal fan Armys. Grew up in the 90's so grunge, alt rock etc plus old school hiphop was what I loved. I was surprised I would actually be a huge fan of these guys! They're all writers, composers, producers of a lot of their own songs not just singers.

  • @rachael02126
    @rachael02126 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

BTS is their own genre! They experiment a lot with genres and sounds so there’s literally a song for everyone in their discography! They’re heavily involved in the writing and production of their songs, and each of the members also has solo music that they’ve created individually too. I’d definitely suggest turning on closed captions when you react to their music videos too, their lyricism is out of this world!

  • @marcela.m2809

Kpop isn't exactly a music genre, it's more like an industry where not only the music is important but also choreography, high production and performances, makeup and many other features. BTS started out as a hip hop group so you will see a lot of influence from that in their music, they are known for making music in various genres such as hip hop, pop, r&b, edm, etc. In the group there are 3 rappers and 4 vocalists

I'm a 53 y.o. Texan who's only been an alternative rock fan my whole life, hated popular music. Over 2 years ago I somehow stumbled upon THIS VERY MUSIC VIDEO and that was it. SOLD. I devoured everything in the 300+ song BTS musical catalogue. They do everything (except country music, LOL): rap, hip-hop, pop, neo-R&B/soul, Latin-influence. It blew my mind how talented these seven dudes were. Who else is switching it up like this in music today? And can dance at a professional level at the same time?? No one. BTS deserves their fame, yet I hadn't even heard of them before. And you'll never meet seven of the most kind, funny, humble, and down-to-earth guys anywhere else in one place. I'm a superfan now (BTS fans like myself are called ARMY). Even if you're mostly into metal, like I too was into something completely different, I hope you give more of their music a look. For some different tastes, I recommend "Daechwita" (rap; a solo song by one of BTS' rappers who goes by the names Suga and AgustD); "Black Swan" (neo-R&B?); "ON: Kinetic Manifesto" (pop? Almost impossible to musically label)
AND PLEASE turn on English captions! Their lyrics are very important for many of their songs)

  • @ryanneoverman2498
    @ryanneoverman2498 2 ปีที่แล้ว +68

If you do more I bet you will see a whole lot of metal heads in your comment section. There is a weird pipeline connecting metal and kpop that I havent quite pinpointed yet, but its undeniable.
BTS are pop, but they are also heavy hip hop, EDM, even classic rock sometimes. They cover so many genres.
But more than anything they are sincere artists, which is what I think a lot of metal heads are concerned about when they hear the words "pop" and "kpop". They write their own lyrics and produce their own songs. They have in house producers too, but those guys have been with them since their debut in 2013 when their company was on the brink of bankruptcy.
They sing about things that are bigger then love songs.
They have songs made to take shits at their government. They have songs to take shots at people who looked down on them. They have songs for people who have given up their dreams and lost hope. They have songs about national tragedies and economic/social injustices.
There is a lot of layers that they cover that a lot of people simply could not know with the way the west has promoted them. (Which is another whole can of worms.)
I always get so stoked when I see people cut from the same cloth as me see these guys and dont immediately downplay them and give them an honest shot. So thanks for the reaction and I would be really happy to see you guys look into them more of your willing.

It's the lyrics (how deep they are), their performance (drama is a big thing in metal), sincerity and for their earlier stuff a big f u to the establishment.... this why metal or rock fans dig it. It's why I did. Then when you get to their personalities, they are just funny humble guys that you would just love to hang out with a drink or a meal. All this put together and you have essentially what most rock and metal fans love.
Rock and metal fans will usually like anything with a classical bent. Lie, Black Swan is definitely up there.

bts are definitely outside of kpop at this point. honestly they’ve been outside of kpop since they debuted in 2013. they literally started out as a hip-hop group not a kpop group but over time because they’re koreans in a group people automatically labeled them as kpop. bts doesn’t care honestly what people call them anymore they just enjoy making music and let that speak for itself and they make music in all types of genres now. they don’t even put themselves in one box anymore when it comes to the kind of music they make. i usually i don’t care for reaction videos or reaction channels at all but i’m really glad you guys had an open mind! please remember to always turn on the captions. seems a lot of reaction channels always forget that the translation to their lyrics are right there and they never get the full experience of what bts are trying to convey in their music and they just seem to react more to the music video and that’s it. their lyrics are the most important part of their music. i was into metal way before getting into bts and surprisingly bts has alot of metal head fans like myself. not trying to put any other group from korea down but bts are on another level. they’re really great artists.

I'll like to add some things.. BTS songs usually reflects what is currently happening in the world and their lives... so during this time (when Mic Drop was released), BTS was making their mark in the US market... previously, no other Kpop group ever reached this level of success in the US market (Psy with Gangnam Style cracked open the door, but that was it, he didn't achieved as much success as Gangnam Style after that).. so while BTS was reeling in their new found fame, the treatment they get from their home country was kinda mixed.. they didn't planned this success, it happened organically because their agency wasn't a big company with loads of money and resources to do what bigger kpop agencies like SM or JYP or YG who can spent millions to promote their artists overseas... oh a little background, some of these big agencies also have power within the Korean medias, you know.. so while BTS was receiving all these achievements and breaking Billboard records and whatnot, the media in Korea was kinda cold about it.. there were hardly ANY news about their achievements (some of Korean journalist was mighty p*ssed off about it, notably Kim Yong Dae).. but some other kpop groups (from the big agencies) breaking youtube records got the front-page treatment, but BTS Billboard achievement was getting the silent treatment.. even when BTS did break that group's TH-cam record, they didn't received the same treatment.. also they were receiving loads of hates at this time.. fans from other kpop groups (the bigger fandoms) were sh*tting on BTS achievements on a daily basis.. they also kept on accusing BTS of copying other kpop groups (when they didn't) etc.. it was insane! you had to be a BTS fan at that time, to understand the scope of hate they were receiving.. it was mind-boggling and i bet many ppl nowadays wouldn't believe it, but what i mentioned here barely touched the surface of it.. it was weird that they finally succeed in the US market, but at the same time, they were receiving a lot of hate from the very ppl who tried to do it in the 1st place.. i guess it's just jealousy..
and another thing to note, is that Mic Drop is their first if not the only main track that addresses their haters... usually if BTS released a song addressing their haters, they were released as a mix tape for free consumption from SoundCloud, or as another song on their albums like the cypher series.. so i guess at this time, they were finally fedup with the haters and decided to finally address them in "public".. they also mentioned this is the last time they'll address the haters, thus the title (Mic Drop) and the line "this is the last goodbye" etc in the song.. if you read the lyrics translations, you will get what i mean...
if you like an underdog to success story, BTS is one of the best example of that... i know there are loads of other talented ppl who deserves to succeed in life but sometimes things don't work well for them.. in this world full of negativity, BTS is a prime example that hard work and talent will go a long way and giving hope to many who are struggling out there.. i guess that's why so many ppl like them and wants to support them..

I think what many people don't understand is that K-pop is an industry, not a genre. Kpop incorporates alot of different genres. Rock, R&B, Techno, etc...
Just like western music, there are many different types of music to listen to. BTS is a genre unto themselves. They make so many different types of music, it is mind blowing. I have been listening to them for about 6 years, and they never disappoint. You should give their music a listen. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Check the dates when you watch stuff (above released November 2017) and as I see others have commented, turn on the lyrics. I will admit though sometimes I have to look up the meanings of the lyrics too, these guys go deep and are amazing artists. Enjoy. Check out "Dope", another good one. First their rather aggressive hiphop/rockish type songs drew me in but as I listened to more of their music, I learned to appreciate all of it, the softer and even poppier stuff too, bc they're just so talented and authentic and I love their message.

In last album (BE, 2020) has a hiphop old school songs named Dis-ease (about pandemic) and in álbum before (Map of the soul, 2020 - karl jung psychoanalysis inspired) has a great hiphop/rap song named UGH (about hate).

Male groups : nct, monsta x, exo, stray kids, ateez, victon, the boyz, a.c.e, oneus, seventeen.
Girl groups: purple kiss, dreamcatcher, everglow, red velvet, loona are just some of each, mostly the ones i stan at the moment obviously i stan BTS as well. Like you i was into metal, rock etc but kpop has taken over and i love it. Not only do you get music you get so much more from kpop and idols, they interact with fans on a nearly daily basis.

    I think it’s Steve ‘A-oh-key’
I grew up with 70’s pop and rock, 80’s hairbands being my main genre I listened to, but also like pop rap and pop too. But Van Halen, Dokken, Ratt, Bon Jovi and Metallica were main groups I listened to.
And play a game called SongPop, and knew my daughters liked BTS so thought I’d play a BTS playlist and see what they were listening to.
And fell into the BTS rabbit hole, as a 54 year old rocker from way back. You see. They are awesome at what they do, and with so much you get to see them in real life, incredible people too.

Metal Head Here! I don't consider BTS as Pop/KPop, They have made it so hard to categorize them. BTS is not afraid to mix different styles, genres', instruments and beats. You said it. These boys/men make you feel good. Like you've had a good workout. They write & produce MOST of their own music. TURN ON THE CC. so you can see the lyrics. The Lyrics!!!! FRENCH KISS! They can sing, dance, rap and they can play instruments. Let me just say: they surprise us all the time. Their own music is FIRE. It's like having 7 Michael Jackson's all in one group. Just when you think someone is incredibly talented, another one will pop out and then you will think they are the most talented. It's like shiny things. Oh, look over here. Shiny! They all are shiny talented Artists. Enjoy, it's so much fun being a fan!!!!!

I'm glad they listened to BTS with an open mind. Mic Drop is a song they wrote dedicated to their haters, hopefully you can see it with subtitles or lyrics.
The guys are very talented, it's the best rap line in the industry and one of the best vocal lines (for me the best); all 7 are musicians, they dance, write, compose, have participated in production, are professionals (a few days ago the youngest graduated from his bachelor's degree).
They are very versatile so they cover many genres; by the way they debuted as a hip hop idol group.
Army is the largest fandom in the world, but also the most diverse. We are part of people of various beliefs, ideologies, races, nationalities, languages, ages (from little ones of 1 or 2 years to great-grandparents), in addition to all musical tastes. & I knew I could just feel it if you got a taste
of it you would like it and I'm so glad you
    do!
BTS is definitely not like most K-pop groups
because K-pop mainly just stands for
Korean popular music which could be lots
of different genres and BTS did start off as
mainly hip-hop but they branched out to do
stuff that was still hip-hop but a little bit
    more like standard pop.
When you said this song has a lot of bite to
it it's mainly because the song is aimed at
their haters and they're just snapping back
at them so it does sound a little bit
aggressive ... you didn't mention if you
looked up the lyrics or not so I wasn't sure
if you knew the meaning behind it.
I honestly only started listening to BTS back
in September... I had never listened to K-
pop before either just assuming | wouldn't
like it and I've become completely hooked
    …..I haven't heard everything because
there's a lots and lots of content out there
but I can't wait to send you more! It's
    exciting ©
BTW Matt I also love Dua Lipa LOL and yes
they are extremely like globally popular
they had the New Year's show they
performed on plus they were at the
American music awards and won all 3
awards that they were nominated for.
they're also up for a Grammy which they
will also at the same time be performing 4
sold out shows in Las Vegas. Tickets went
on sale yesterday and they sold out in less
than three hours for all four shows that's
    like 260,000 combined seats

BTS debuted in 2013 as a Hip Hop Idol Group (under the K Pop umbrella), the BTS of 2013 is a lot different from the BTS of 2017, and the BTS of 2022. But at their core, they are Hip Hip and they are performance artists. They have an extensive discography of over 300 songs, of which they write and produce their own music (with in house producers), and their fanbase is over 90 million globally, and counting. The reason they have such a big fan base is not just their talent, it's also their message and the fact that they have stayed genuine and humble, through their rough times, and their success. They have touched the lives of millions of people around the world, and they are making positive change in the world. They are not your typical K Pop group or Boy Band Group (according to Western Standards).
They have paved the way for K Pop in the Western Market by breaking down walls. They acknowledge the artists before them that have opened doors for them, like Psy and Seo Taiji, and they truly love their fan base (ARMY) and continue to connect with them through live streams and heartfelt messages, just like they did in their humble beginnings. They are a truly inspirational underdog story. I hope you continue on the BTS journey, and I will link a few of my favorite BTS Songs if you want to react to them.

FYI, within the K-pop industry, there are various "lines" (i.e., subunits within the larger group). If you like music with attitude, then I think you'd particularly like the rap line's songs (e.g., Ugh!, Ddaeng, the Cyphers 1-4), and some of their solo tracks (e.g., "Agust D," "Joke," "Boy Meets Evil").
That being said, BTS originally was conceived as a hip hop idol group, but evolved over the years. Now, you will find almost any BTS fan (called ARMY, which stands for Adorable Representative MC for Youth) will tell you that BTS is the genre. Throughout their discography, you will find influences from latin music, EDM, pop (both upbeat and balladic), R&B, disco, funk, and yes, hip hop.
They debuted in 2013, and I think you'd like their debut single, "No More Dream," as well as "Boy In Luv" (not to be confused with "Boy With Luv"), as they're hard hitting, and the latter one is guitar driven. Also, I think you'd probably like their dance covers/concept videos, where it's not their music, but the performance is amazing. In particular, I recommend this one, their "Intro performance Trailer": th-cam.com/video/S1Up-ZzHmuw/w-d-xo.html. (It is in response to a broadcast of this performance that had really bad camera work, so BTS and their company decided to put this video together to show how it should have been filmed, and included three different angles. It's pretty freakin' impressive!)

BTS is HUGE, i'd argue they are currently the biggest artist in the world : (i mean they are the best selling artist in the world in 2020 and in 2021, first act to do that two years in a row)
    In mic drop they said
"There are never grapes at our concerts"
in Korea, the ticket purchase interface has purple dots in the places where the seats are not taken, and so people call these little purple dots "grapes". This basically means their concerts are always sold out. Keep in mind that this was in 2017, aka 5 years ago. They have grown EXPONENTIALLY since then, yesterday they put their 4 night stadium show in las vegas on pre-sale. 2 hours after, all of the tickets were sold out, and it hasn't even been put on sale for the general public yet, only people who had the fandom membership were aloud to buy and THEY SOLD IT ALL OUT. the entire 70k seats, 4 times. So around 280k in 2h. Most mainstream artists take months to sell out a 20k arena. Went from them selling out all their concerts in 2017 to them having so much demand that no one from the general public can even go to a bts concert anymore, no matter how big the stadium is. Never seen that ever happening, especially in an era where rare are the mainstream artists who are actual superstars.
They started as a small underdog group from an indie company in 2013, then they first got attention in Korea around 2015, built a strong international fandom in 2017 and 2018/2019 they solidified their place as one of the most successful groups in history.

First of all, you both are awesome and remind me of people I’m friends with IRL. 💜 I won’t repeat much from other comments but I just want to give my ARMY origin story in brief, as well as some info and recommendations:
I’m turning 35 in 3 weeks and have been a lifelong anti-pop-bullshit music fan. I found BTS when a student showed me their music video for Fake Love with captions on that show the lyrics in English. I was blown away both sonically and lyrically. The lyrics are so poetic. The music is awesome. The video is like a short film. I thought surely someone at their label wrote those lyrics or they bought the song or something, but I was wrong. Their leader and main rapper RM wrote them (the one who burst out of the ambulance in this video). He’s credited for writing almost 200 songs already at only 27 years old. The 2 other rappers are not far behind him. And the rest of BTS are all talented like that, as well. Each of the 7 have solo songs and self produced mixtapes or singles that they release for free on Soundcloud. It’s 7 men so talented they can stand alone as soloists and not just as a group.
Before BTS, I listened to basically no contemporary pop as I believed it all to be manufactured and devoid of much artistic merit or autonomy. That really hasn’t changed because BTS is not that. They are authentic. Also yes they are now huge, but their amazing production has been there since their inception when they were underdogs at a tiny new label. They are not a product of the industry. They are a DISRUPTOR of the industry. If the industry is cable, they are Netflix. They are changing the game and not playing by the rules. No payola, no bundles, no tricks. Just hard work, authenticity, artistry, etc. They openly protest nonsense in the industry in their music and when they speak. They began by making protest music about societal issues, despite not yet having any clout. They write songs applying Carl Jung’s psychological framework to their personal experience. They make songs inspired by literature. They are introspective, brave, humble activists both in their music and their lives.
A few recommendations to see their variety because they have the most diverse discography I’ve ever seen:
    -Fake Love
-On: Kinetic Manifesto Film (in the song, the marching band playing is the UCLA marching band; the other dancers in the video are The Lab from LA; the girl featured at the beginning choreographed their moves)
-Singularity (a solo written by RM and performed by V)
-Daechwita a solo from Yoongi’s second mixtape. In BTS he is known as Suga, and as a soloist he goes by Agust D. He composed the music, produced it, wrote the lyrics, plays the synth in the track and thought of the MV plot.
All of these have great music videos with captions in English. I also highly recommend watching the track Dionysus performed live. There is no MV. These talented men sing LIVE while doing the most difficult and complex choreography you can find today. It’s nuts. I’ve seen them live and still can’t believe they really do that. I also recommend watching the live performance of Black Swan from The Tonight Show. There are captions available in English.
Thank you again and welcome to the rabbit hole 💜

BTS does a lot of genres. I think you would like the rock version of Fake Love. If you want to see another high energy one ON Kinetic Manifesto although the MV is also stunning story. Great rap songs like the Cyphers parts 1 to 4, with amazing wordplay Ddaeng (but to truly appreciate you need the explanation video), Outro Tear for intense feeling especially the live Wembly performance, ballads like The Truth Untold, more EDM music like Save Me, a more Mexican vibe like Airplane Pt 2, also more feel good funky songs like Dynamite and Butter, neo soul like Singularity, or jazzy like House of Cards. You name the genre and they probably have done it. Live they are even better.

So if you are into metal I really think that "Dionysus" is your gateway into the BTS world, (specially if you react to the MAMA 2019 live version, it´s truly one of their most impressive live performances)

I would recommend: Louder than Bombs, ON: Kinetic Manifesto Film, Black Swan & Black Swan Art Film (string quartet version of Black Swan with a hauntingly beautiful music video filmed by a Slovenian dance company), Fake Love and perhaps some of the solo work from SUGA/Agust D (Daechwita, Shadow (there is an MV but do check out the full-length version on the album, Strange fr RM from BTS). But you're going to want to turn on the subtitles, as other have mentioned.

Good reaction!!! BTS is the whole package so subtitles are a must they always have a message. Danger and Not Today are harder beats. Black Swan is one of the most beautiful mv.Another flexin song is Dope. Idol is a fun mv. BTS are their own genre. Hope you enjoy going down the rabbit hole of BTS. #BTSARMY
