Los Angeles, CA
Boxscore: www.basketball-reference.com/b...
Statline: 56 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal, 21-34 FG, 3-6 3pt
Earlier in the day, Shaquille O'neal was suspended for 3 games for throwing a punch at Chicago Bulls center Brad Miller. Before the game, Bryant took responsibility for the losses in the previous games as Phil wanted him take less shots. Bryant said he'd make up for the earlier losses in the Grizzlies game. He sure did respond.
Kobe scored 18 1st quarter points on a dazling array of jumpshots, dunks, and drives. His nifty footwork was also on display as he made every move in the book possible. He split doubles, made scoops, and destroyed the defense of Shane Battier, a 3 time defensive player of the year at Duke. He went berserk in the 3rd quarter. He had 42 points with 8 minutes to go in the 3rd. His 3rd quarter was so demorilizing, the Grizzlies had 14 points in the quarter. He topped the quarter off with 2 threes, a behind the back jumpshot, a double pump dunk, and another turnaround jumpshot. After 3, he had nearly outscored the Grizzlies by himself scoring 56 points to the Grizzlies 59, a stat many people forget.
Although he didn't play in the 4th, his 56 in 34 minutes is still one of his most tantalizing performances up to date. It's amazing to think of how memorizing this performance could've been had he played in the 4th and the 2 extra minutes. 80 is not out of the question as he scored 18 in the 1st, 18 in the 2nd, and 20 in the 3rd. It was also the NBA's season high for points as he scored 3 more than Tim Duncan did that season.
In the game, Kobe put up 56 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and on 21-34 shooting, 3-6 from downtown, and going to the line 12 times. - กีฬา
Wow. FRO Kobe! Didn't know he scored that much in only 34 minutes in this game. If Shaq wasn't such a big mismatch every night. He would've easily passed Kareem's career point total by now. The sacrifices of winning titles, I guess. Kobe's the greatest b-ball player ever. In my humble opinion.
56 in 34 minutes? kobe no doubt, a scoring machine!
to me he is the greatest as well as underrated
KOBE IS THE BEST NBA PLAYER OF ALL TIME. ITS NOT EVEN CLOSE~!!!!!! .
It's close but I agree
Kobe is the best and most creative scorer in nba history in my opinion.
Durant, Bird Jordan, Nowitzki, kareem are up there too though.
and they wanna compare lebron's 61 to Kobe's 81...why not compare it to this? Or to his 62 in 3? Kobe all day.
or his 55 in 3 on mj
Lebum fans are shits🤣🤣
this is amazing by the time kobe was 21 or 22 yrs old he alrdy had 6, 50points games wow.
he scores 3 less than the grizzlies in 3 quarters. the dallas game with 62 and the 81 weren't just accidents. he just does this cuz its what he does
Durant just dropped a career high last night 52 points vs Dallas. It took him OT to get it done in his 6th year in the NBA. Impressive it is! But then I thought of Kobe's career: His 6th year, in 2002, he dropped a career high too, 56 points but he didn't require OT to get it, all he needed was 34 min. of playing time on the floor!!
When you think about it, Kobe is unbelievable! amazing! and let's not forget what he has done, even though we have some great player today. There's none like KB!
56 in 3 quarters at the age of 23
4 years later...62 through 3
that guy is just amazing
imagine how many 70+ point games this guy could've had if phil left him out there in the 4th, young kobe was flat out filthy, most impressive talent and confindence i've ever seen myself
So..... this was the guy you guys called just a sidekick for for shaq
5:09 thats the only type of laugh you can make when you see someone that good
56 in 3 quarters at 22
to think this guy had 3 opportunities to possibly put up 70 or 80 points in his career( this game, the dallas game and the toronto game) simply amazing...
kobe's the man .... you know he's done so many things.... man
Kobe scored 56 points in three quarters in this game and he also scored 62 in three quarters in another, and then Phil sat him down in the fourth. His 81 points could of been his second or third best scoring game.
56 pts in 3qts. 58pts vs Grizzlies. 60 points vs Bobcats. 61pts vs Knicks (age 31). 62 pts in 3qts vs Dallas. 65 points vs Blazers. 81 pts vs Raptors.
1:38 is RIDICULOUS, he has very little speed, jumps off BOTH feet from that far away and is still able to throw it down, tremendous talent
Kobe is just unbelievable
Lets Go Lakers! Thnx for postin.
Kobe Bryant I love you Rest In Peace
Bball players who score this much, can only do this because they earned the respect of the coaches and players, to be able to keep shooting and shooting even after he misses. Thats a true star, and a legend
He says he is a pure scorer, but his defense is superb
Damn is Kobe is quick and smooth at this age ... much different from the Kobe we have today
Unbelievable performance ! Woaw. Only 34 minutes and 56 points woaw woaw !
The torch isn't the only thing Kobe doesn't pass
Kobe is the man......
damn i actually watched this game live, i didnt know he had 56 points lol
Oh the memories; a rookie Pau Gasol, a Kobe with an afro and ridiculous shoes, Fisher looks the same, Maddog Madsen still a role player before signing with the T-wolves, Shane Battier doesn't know how to play defense yet. Lol 12 years...
You really don't know why people hate him? He's swagger-jacked Michael Jordan in every single way. All the way down to the way he talks.
Anyone who wouldn't say Kobe is the greatest 1 v 1 player to ever touch a basketball has no right to any opinion on the sport. Simple as that
He didn't even play the fourth quarter!!! Beast mode..
kobe bryant very explosive player back then
Wow! Kobe was only 3 points short of the points the Grizzlies scored after 3 quarters. Grizzlies only lead Kobe 59-56.
Can't forget his 55 vs Jordan in which he had 42 at half time. Not sure how in the world he only ended that game with 55, but that game definitely has the "what if" factor written all over it.
Wow, absolutely amazing!
This video shows the difference between Kobe and Lebron... Lebron career high is 56 points in a game but kobe made those 56 points in 34 minutes no doubt kobe is much better than QUEEN james
Kobe could have his own top 10 play with games like this nowadays
Thanks.
I believe he also has a 51 and 53 point game in which he only needed 3 quarters to obtain.
So weird to see Kobe and Pau on the court together when they were so young.
Unbelievable Mamba
Thanks
After 3 quarters, Kobe: 56 points Grizzlies: 59 points. Just saying
No, 2nd season, Kobe was already in his prime in 2000-01 season.
I Admit Than Jordan Was The FIRST To Reform The Game But Jordan Aint UNTOUCHABLE. Somebody Can Do As Well or Better than he Did... Kobe is The Best Contender to Share the Crown
Great Video. Wow is he Explosive
Kobe is the best! (Watch the haters get mad...)
And at this moment…I was born 😂😂 no joke
You wonder what his final total would have been in a close game. This one looked like a 74 spot to me.
Amazing!!!
so i see where kobe got his growling from... . he's been doing it for a while now...
this was the kind kobe when he wasnt mad at the ref all the time lol im a laker fan so idc if he gets technicals
Kobe has had like 5 games where he has like 50 or 60 points at the end of the 3rd wuarter where he could have ended up with 70 or 80 points easily.
that was the night pau gasol witnessed greatness from kobe
Don't forget that bobcat game where he fouled at when he had 58 points in overtime. I felt like he could have pushed that to double ot and dropped atleast 70 if he didn't foul out.
@srwgundam
averaging 35 ppg is godly...
he did it in 05-06 season and thats enough for me.
How dudes hate on Kobe i'll never know.
Kobe was a straight up scorer! Competitor! If Kobe was in his prime at the same time as Dwyane Wade, LeBron, Melo and them, there would be no discussion! He'd stand head and shoulder above! Already he's on the decline, hampered with injuries and aging yet he still giving LeBron a run for his money! Kobe ain't passed the torch yet. You wanna be king? Get in line and wait!
true
though i believe lebron could score 60 in the feature
but he would never has the same level of skill as kobe
The Lakers scored 98 points in 3 quarters? That's incredible!
This was aganist Shane Batteir an all world defender
Actually, this was Kobe's 1st season in his prime.
56 out of 98 points, not to mention he was 3 away from out scoring the Memphis Grizzlies single handedly. What possible argument could you have?
Jordan score 50+ and barely win the game. Kobe score 50+ and team wins by 40 points. Jordan had the better team though. Kobe better. Yea and that's my opinion.
echt supper...
pau was like "i wanna win championships with that man!"
so cute.. baby kobe and gasol.. if only kobe knew about the monster he would become one day..
3:18 - 3:20 first ever Kobe scowl
Those were the days:)
MJ1A-Kobe1B
He was basically too quick for anyone to guard him. Kobe in 2007 is better offensively but Kobe in 2002 was way quicker and more athletic. Awesome game for Kobe.
@Nano2690 well spoken..
kobe was like 24 23 at this time kobe was better at this age than jordan butkobe is 30 years he still has along way to go
I totally disagree...Kobe still has a killer mentality and the way I see it, Kobe has learned to be humble in his continuous rampages. The Kobe today is much more than the Kobe of late. Metaphorically, you can consider the Kobe of late as a rampaging, unstoppable bull and now; he's like a silent assassin.
How many points did Kobe score against Battier in his career? Had to be like 10,000 seems like he's in every Kobe highlight
He definitely ain't passing his 5 rings, I know that much! So use whatever argument you need as comfort, I'll comfort myself with the 5 rings Kobe ain't passing.
you must not watch him play nowadays because he passes quite a lot.
how does he do it
Shane Battier got schooled that night..
Da fuq? He's a great defender, then and now. One of the best to this day. Better than lebron, both offensively and defensively
Kobe had young teammates when the Lakers got knocked out of the playoffs in '06 and '07 by the Suns. You're acting like Kobe had a choice between shooting and passing. His teammates didn't step up (like they haven't stepped up in this series) and he had to score more. The Lakers were a good offensive team and a bad defensive team and the Suns were a bad defensive team with a great offense. If Kobe averaged 20 they would have lost and if he averaged 35 or 40 they would have lost.
It's so moving that he put shark's no.34 on his shoes.
Did we mention in this game Kobe was only like 23? God damn! if Kobe Wuda played in the 4th he wuda had like 70.. 70 at age 23? imagine that
Was LeBron putting up 56 in 3 quarters when he was 22, and leading his team into victory? No, all he cares about is getting a triple double.
@utfanatic2000 Kobe is a media creation driven through the need of the NBA to sustain itself,He was dubbed the next MJ before he stepped foot on an NBA court. He is a product of a wealthy winning franchise and a superior supporting cast.
Afro Kobe!!!!!!!!!!
What exactly did Jordan win without Phil????? Go ahead I'll wait ☺
lol it's actually the opposite. where would phil be without the greatest players of all time on his teams? jordan would win games by himself so often thats why they went 72-10 that one year. Phil is a great coach no doubt, but saying Jordan wouldn't have been great without Phil is ridiculous.
He was a great player no doubt but Phil has 5 championships without Jordan and the Bulls never beat Isaiah's pistons without the triangle or scotties development both of which Michael attributed to Phil's system and coaching methods.....Jordan played 5 yrs without Phil and won one playoff series....
Facts are facts....kobe shaq and mj have one combined title without him and u know who was the coach of that team...Pat Riley.....i rest my case.....all of them are HOF without Phil but they are just Karl Malones when it comes to title winning....
my god it's only 3QTR
Magic and Bird were DEFINITELY worse defenders than Kobe Bryant.
@7heChosen1
Very true.
Do not believe he would have broken Wilts record but he should have had a more dominant year.
Bottom line only 27% of kobe's 50 point games are against winning teams. True to form the grizzles were 12 wins 24 losses at the time.
@victorlopez007 I know right. It's like Jackson intentionally got KB outta there because he doesn't want him to eclipse Jordan.
In the regular season Kobe can shoot better from beyond the arc, but not in the playoffs.
3-PT numbers
Kobe 34.0% reg season, 30.2 post-season
Jordan 32.8% reg season, 33.2% post-season
everyone has their own opinion. my opinion is that kobe bryant is the best player in the nba. not to ever play. but the best in the nba right now. i think he is better than lebron because he won three championchips and lebron has not won one. kobre scored the second most points in the nba and evrey year he gets fifty to sixty points every two weeks or so. thatmaybe is not true but you know what i mean. lebron james is better in dunking but kobe is a better shooter. i think kobe is better.
PASS THE BALL!!
Damn, Kobe attack the rim at will.
56 in the 3q..
he took a high percentage shot thats the right decision...n how do u even know he saw horry
