요즘 또 영상이 뜸한 이유와 곧 군 입대를 해야 한다는 말을 드리려고 글을 올립니다 ㅎㅎ..
우선 최근 완성된 자작곡을 소개해드리겠습니다. 이 곡을 요새 계속 열중해서 쓰느라 조금 피아노 연습을 뜸한 감이 없지 않아 있습니다.
이 곡은 시행착오라는 제목이란 말 답게 모두 인생에 관해있습니다.
제1번. "시작" : 이 곡은 말그대로 무엇을 해도 이제부터 시작이다라는말을 자주 하죠. 그 느낌을 그대로 음악적으로 풀어봤습니다. 특히 입시 끝나고 대학에 들어갔을때의 느낌을 토대로 쓴 느낌이 없잖아 있습니다.
제2번. "회상" : 이 곡은 좀 제가 평소에 회의감을 느낄때나, 고민을 할때나 기분이 다운될때마다 저는 자주 어릴쩍 시절을 회상하곤 합니다. 근데 이 감정을 특히나 최근들어서 많이 겪는데, 입시할때부터 자주 느끼기 시작한것 같습니다. 하지만 전 이 추억에 잠긴 느낌을 굉장히 좋아하며 이 감정을 느끼게 된 계기로 음악적 취향도 매우 많이 변했습니다.
제3번. "위안" : 이 곡은 제목그대로 삶이 힘들때마다 무엇이든 간에 위안을 받으면서 다시 일어납니다. 이건 저뿐만 아니라 모든 시행착오를 가지는 사람들도 다 겪는거겠죠.
제4번. "결심" : 이 곡 또한 제목에 쓰여져 있듯이 무엇을 결심하고 나아갈때 느낀 바를 음악으로 풀었습니다. 마치 아마 제가 입시를 마치고 알캉의 기사 에튀드를 쳐보자고 패기있게 결심했을때의 느낌이랄까요.
제5번. "영상" : 이 곡은 평소에 자주 느끼지 못하는 여유를 느끼고 미래에 관한 상상을 할때의 느낌을 써봤습니다. 이 곡도 제가 입시 마치고 해방감을 느꼈을때 일것 같네요:)
Image 라는 말과 같이 몽환적인 분위기를 내려고 노력해본 곡입니다.
제6번. "절망" : 이 곡은 제가 자주 느끼는 감정인데, 제가 입시를 하거나, 입학 후 처참히 교수님께 깨지고 절망감을 느낄때의 감정입니다.
제7번. "비전" : 이 곡은 미래에 대한 갈망의 느낌과 감정을 토대로 쓴 곡입니다. 꼭 미래에 저의 음악을 전 세계에 알리고 싶은 갈망이랄까요.
제8번. "새로운 시작" : 이 곡은 1번과 상당히 밀접합니다. 언제 어디서 무너져도 꼭 다시 일어나서 새로운 시작을 맞이하는 법이죠. 이건 최근에도 느꼈고 지금까지도 많은 새 시작을 겪었습니다. 끝없는 노력과 성장을 하며 오늘도 열심히 합시다.

아무튼 제 부족한 작품을 들어주셔서 감사합니다. 9월 27일, 다녀오겠습니다.

Greetings everyone, and long time no see!
Some people might have wondered why I didn't upload videos these days; the reason is that I've concentrated on composing a suite called "Trial and Error" for several weeks. This is going to be the last work before having a mandatory military service starting from September 27, 2021. Here is an explanatory note.
There are eight movements in this suite, and titles on each movement are highly relevent to feelings in our lives or the life itself. Each movement was dedicated to my fellow colleages and soulmates.
I. Beginning
Frankly, the beginning itself is the most important thing in our lives - whenever starting to do something, we often say to ourselves that it's now beginning. The very first movement was written after recalling a moment having a resolution while starting my college life.
II. Reminiscence
I tend to think of the old memories when I feel distressed and somewhat skeptical, and I believe I've done so more frequently since having a college entrance examination, and especially these days. But I do like the feeling while indulging myself in reminiscence, and somehow, my musical preference have been changed since then.
III. Consolation
When someone has bad times and feels down and weary, he/she gets better after hearing someone offering a word of consolation. Of course, I also overcame negative feelings so many times thanks to many people around me.
IV. Determination
The fourth movement describes the moment when someone determines to do something and starts carrying out the particular task. It reminds me of the time when I boldly decide to practice Alkan's Le Preux (Op. 17) and upload it on TH-cam after entrance exam (to someone who are new here: the very first video of my channel is that notoriously difficult étude).
V. Image
Like many Impressionists' compositions, the fifth movement features dreamlike atmosphere, because this movement depicts someone's imagination of his/her future life. I honestly miss the free time after sucessfully finishing the entrance exam, because I didn't have much spare time recently.
VI. Despair
I was despaired so many times during the entrance exam, and after being harshly criticized by professors. I tried to properly convey that feeling into music.
VII. Vision
This piece was written after my eagerness for the future - I have a dream that everyone in the world can appreciate my own music, of course containing my own philosophy.
VIII. New Beginning
I wanted to end the piece with having similarity with the first one. From birth to this day, whenever I fell down, in a bad slump, I was able to overcome every time and experience a "renaissance". I'd like to encourage everyone to do your best every day, with endless endeavor and subsequent growth.
This ends "pre-military" era of my musical career. I'd like to give a huge thanks to all my subscribers and attentive listeners for appreciating this entire suite and enjoying my videos from the beginning of the channel to current time. I will do my best in eighteen-month military training, and not get injured during that time. Thank you so much again, and now it's time to bid farewell.

This is like the anime soundtrack of a student who leaves his family and friends because he's forced to join the military. I imagine this suite as covering his journey of struggling and struggling but finally reaching the stars and conquering the world beating every challenge he faces.

Best case scenario: On the first day, the general or whoever's in charge realizes that they're looking at Seon-Yong Hwang and decides "Hey, isn't this the pianist who plays amazingly well? We can't let him get hurt." and sends Seon-Yong Hwang back home.

this suite is fkin amazing. you managed to have me listening to this entire suite in one sitting from the very first second. the beginning is captivating, the middle pieces captures their titles very well and sustains interest epicly, and that final piece is.. just overflowing with emotions (especially the parts in 22:10, new theme in 25:02, and the climatic moment in 26:22... there are too many amazing moments in final that piece aaaaaa). i also love that you reused the themes from "beginning" and bits of others in "new beginning," which wraps up this suite beautifully. overall, i think is is one of the most melodic, emotional, and passionate piano suites i have ever heard, and that's no exaggeration.
this piece is certainly an amazing sendoff. best of luck with your military service, and i hope you will return safely.

It’s sounds so romantic, but influenced by modern anime music.. Especially the Finale.. probably the best piano suite i have listened to in my life, and that’s not even an exaggeration.

For mens in Korea, military service is inevitable (except for someone having serious health/mental issues), so... It's time to say goodbye to Seonyong Hwang for eighteen months. Despite this quite depressing news, we're so honored to have an opportunity to enjoy this large and amazing piece.
I feel so delightful to be one of dedicatees of him - the third movement "Consolation" was dedicated by me. There is a short back story of it. I had a really hard time after being dropped out of military six months ago due to certain medical issue (I cannot expose the symptom directly, though...). Seonyong's words of comfort did help me to overcome the mental wound, and now I feel better than before. Then, he remarked that he was so grateful for my translation of the description since last year, and he decided to write this in respond.
Thank you Seonyong again, and we will never forget your music. We will miss you, and hope you to succesfully finish the eighteen-month mandatory military service without any injuries. Goodbye...!

This is a goldmine! 0:28, 1:00-1:32k, 3:20, 4:30, 6:45 (Jazzy! chords, also 7:13 is spicy), 8:23, 9:35, 9:55 (gives me goosebumps), 10:35 Just to name a few! Truly a work of perfection. I really do hope that, in the future you become remembered as one of the greats, this is some really great stuff. I compose a little bit, and I wish I was had nearly this much skill and passion. How do manage to put so much emotion and impact into your pieces? An your playing as well, so emotionally charged, and paired with your own piece, truly a match made in heaven. As a listener to classical music for more than 40 years, all I can say is I love these pieces! The sound is a little like early Debussy with an early 21st century twist. Way to go!
