    Your videos have been a blessing truly. I used to work for a tech company, they had a global lay off, and I was one of the employees hit. Before I was laid off about 7 months prior I did the Google Ux course, but watching your videos has helped me tremendously especially when it comes to UI. But it also has encouraged to try to take the solo path. I’m really tired of working for corporations and being laid off. So again thank you for the lessons and harsh truths that some channels don’t share.

      It's a funny cliche, but we actually never really used them. Even in larger projects for banks etc it just never happened :-)
      And the industry is getting leaner now so many of these processes will be even more rare.

    Thank you Michal for always keeping it real. I've just finished the (in)famous Google UX Design course on Coursera and I couldn't believe how research heavy the course was. Yes, research is important if there's a specific or unexplored goal to reach but most of the time there's no need to reinvent the wheel and following existing patterns is absolutely fine. I've now signed up to some of your courses to gain more insight into the "real" UX world rather than the Google-centric one that the course showed me.

To be honest, my favorite research as a Freelancer is competition analysis :) My motto is "Design is people, business is people, you won't become a good designer unless you like people."     Can't agree more. You learn, learn, learn, and at every company that I've been working for - only 20% of those UX skills were needed. But usually different 20%, so in general it's good to learn.

      Can you share an example of two different sets of skills? I find that there's about a 90% overlap of the same handful of skills and changes are actually very rare :)

      @@MalewiczHype In one role I had to do user testing and interviews myself together with UI design, but low-fidelity mockups were made by other people. In another company it was the other way around. But it were medium to large companies. Usually it’s good if you can do everything when you join the small startup - wearing a lot of hats is appreciated there.

    I think UX needs to separate itself from the term "Designer." Most "UX Designers" are simply UI and visual designers. If you're not performing heavy research, testing, etc.-only a few are-you're not a UX professional.

      Partially because a lot of the UI influences the experience so if you know which patterns to copy and do some nice, readable UI on top you are making "user experience" too. Research is slowly being phased out - not sure what to think about it - maybe it was a bit too much.

      @@MalewiczHype Yes. However, I could argue that the page loading speed influences user experience, too. In that case, should we have UX developers? Good design's byproduct is good user experience-just like good development’s byproduct is good user experience.

      Well my understanding is they don't cover a lot of UI design. Delivering high fidelity designs is important in a lot of companies

      There's about 1 to possibly 5% of companies that use more of the process, but yeah it has gotten more and more "agile" and kinda "reckless" sometimes. High fidelity is the best way forward + REALLY good communication and trying to solve problems in multiple categories to learn.

    Im glad you said that about sticky notes - I have seen portfolios where people splash those in the middle and I never understood why because you can’t even read them. 😂 Thanks for breaking it down into an easy to digest format here too … seems like a few companies hire UX researchers but that is a totally different job than designer.

    It's best to learn the overall process and theory of UX first then streamline things later. I am stuck with designing from scratch for an entry-level UX researcher like myself since I have no existing companies to work with. I do see these changes for 2024 but the thing that made me think the most was we gotta learn to float before we can swim. I am not a wunderkind or a design prodigy at all, but incorporating research before design really emphasizes user centered design. Maybe it is all the NN/g materials I use but my opinion will probably change the more time I spend in the field and designing.

      The thing is that there is no "user centered design" anymore. There's "just enough care" so the users won't go away. Dunno if you noticed but many digital products are actually getting worse (dark patterns, convoluted interfaces) - often on purpose - because they can.

    Do you have any tutorial for creating those background patterns like the one at 2:07? I don't know if you understand me, those patterns of lines, dots, gradients... they look very good as backgrounds in web design, for example, inside a card, etc. I've been searching for tutorials to create those elements for months but I haven't found anything... is it in any of your courses? I bought one but I wasn't lucky with that

I'm not specifically talking about that one, I can't explain it, but on the best websites, I've seen many elements like that, and they fascinate me, look soo cool!     Im curious how different ux research or test processes is for websites compared to apps or dashboards.
    Do designers launch the website and then test it and keep working on conversions or they simply design a website hand it over and say goodbye to their clients?

      Depends on the clients. We always recommend installing stuff like hotjar on websites and landing pages. Tweaking things like that is really a good idea if you want to increase conversions :)

      First thing is you shouldn'y really work on apps as a freelancer. It's a very niche category, expensive to build etc. Much better to work on websites - seriously :)

      usually by figuring out what the client wants and confronting it with reality.

    Great video! For everyone who finished the Google UX course it can be very ''hurtful'' because you learn all these processes and patterns. But also if you evaluate the quality of the projects you do throught the course and the existing products you will see the big gap, not only because of the less experience. I also googled in the beginning and read a lot. I concluded that I have to be a UX doctor to work in the field. After 5 months discovered your work through a fellow designer and shook off all the sh*t and started to make progress in my learning. Yes maybe big companies do this kind of things to spend more money from the budget and make it worth a while. But in cases of Google we are all already into their jam. The precent of people not using google or some of its products??? If you worked in business and with clients there is no way you won't agree with all the points you made. Sorry for the long comment but is a result after reading some of the other comments. Cheers! Keep doing great stuff!

      Thank you! It's not that there's absolutely no merit to doing more of the UX process (if a business can afford it). The issue is that many of those big companies actually fall into a trap of much worse design outcomes because they value the process more than the outcome ;)

      I agree with you, there is merit and you don't say that there is not in the video. Research should be done but not make it sound more complicated than it is and purposeful. That's why you mentioned to study other people's work as kind of part of the research to see how others have tackled the problem and learn from their mistakes. Just building and growing mindfully. It would be very interesting not only for me to see how you do the competitive analysis and I am looking forward to a video about it.☺️

    The thing with research and wireframes. It really depends if it’s a B2B and B2C product. With B2B products UXR is way different than B2C

      It's different in terms of some approaches but not fundamentally different. We worked on both (a lot) and it's converging at a point of "deliver fast, we'll tweak later"

    I want to go back to school to study UX/UI, but I am terrified if I will be able to get iob in 2027 since many say that market is already oversaturated with juniors, AI etc. Any opinions from those who are in the industry? 😢

      If you're exceptionally good and hard working with good communication then it's actually easy to get a job regardless of "years" of doing this.

    Which industries do you think are currently experiencing something similar to the golden age of UX? I think in popular consumer products, research is not done anymore because they've been around for a bit and have been researched and figured out. But there also must be some new industries where there is still a big need for research and innovation? How about Automotive HMI? VR? crypto?

      Crypto takes the cheapest possible route practically every time.
      Automotive is too old fashioned mentally (with some exceptions) to matter.
      VR is innovating a little but it will be a niche product either way.
      AI is overhyped (bubble) so you can get a short burst of that cash now there but that will likely end in a few months, esp. once big brands in AI destroy all small competitors.
      So in tech - I have really no idea, but I've seen a lot of cool things outside of tech - even "craft concrete" pouring factories - huge demand for stuff like that :)

    Iam shocked how your leaving in the reality it's 12 : 10 am here if I got to the office in the morning this is the exact way how my company will goes through design I have got a job because of you to be honest I am working on health care product and I have 3 version of design but cleint rejected my manger is not willing shedule the meeting with clients simply he's rejecting it iam not able understand client's mind set too
    And iam not soo confident to tell my design decisions in front of him please make video 📸 on overcoming it ❤ please

    Your focus on current trends is insightful and really helpful. As a new UX designer transitioning from a client-focused background, I appreciate the importance of understanding user needs and clients' goals - not just results. I hope others see the value in your approach as well. While traditional methods are important, my recent projects demonstrate evolving practices.     i live in a country where people dont take these research interviews seriously if you ask any of them for example they wouldnt care to answer you and i dont wanna look like a fool wandering in the streets interviewing people or stalking them because is socially unacceptable is there any other alternative?

      Surveys can also mean app store or even internet comments about a product, don't need to be actual surveys.

      @@MalewiczHype haha. Also another Research method I've seen used often is heuristic evaluation. It's usually this, competitor analysis, surveys and hotjar/google analytics in my experience

    I will have to disagree with you, in my experience research is still is and will be important.
    Yes, it depends on the context of the product on how much and what kind of research methodologies you need to do but knowing the users, especially in products that are targeting niche markets is important.
    Research is needed for feature prioritization and qualitative research has always opened good conversations with stakeholders.
    Yes, validation research now might not require a dedicated UX researcher but discovery on how product works and bringing this voice of customers to the right people is not going anywhere.
    That's why companies that do care about the quality of their product still keep UX researchers around. Not so many as before, which might talk in favor of what you are saying, as there is no need for too much research but there is a need.
    To be honest, I find this video kinda hurtful to the the profession especially because it makes the existing problem (business and product designing together without proper UX collaboration).
    Instead suggesting to designers to advocate for UXR and improve their communication skills to get buy-in, you are basically suggesting to copy competitors or unknown designers' problems and bring them into the business...
    I might be wrong but feel free to disagree

      I'm not saying there is no need for research, I'm saying there's less need. And there are methods that are widely used (the ones mentioned) and methods that a handful of brands do.
      Nowadays I also often see heavily researched and big product teams made apps and websites that simply sucks (too many chefs maybe) so of course there's still place for everything - just less.

      @@MalewiczHype how much a UX designer earns, freelance vs employed what sizes of brands are able to pay which kind of budget charging hourly vs charging a per project fee etc.
      I think money is quite important in any design field thats why i am asking, itsa also the reason why i watch your videos, to serve my clients better which allows me to raise my price as a freelancer :)

    why is the hook talking about changes but there is not even 1 mention of changes in this video?
    I get using a strong hook but why have I needed to see a video for 10 min that has nothing toddo with the headline that got me into the video?
    leave aside the opinion on what you advertise here which is not accurate. you will drive away followers who used to value your content.

      It does talk about some of the things that used to be more relevant (more research methods, wireframes, sticky notes) and how they're not as much now. As for the title though I'm changing it once per hour until I see one that works. This is sadly the reality you won't get views on just good intentions :/

    the idea that patterns are perfected is incredibly misguided, but it does explain why UX is so terrible on most sites - many people think like this. And even beyond that, patterns may have some consistent usability, but that has nothing to do with the larger journey, or the expectations and thoughts of users.
    This video is incredibly misguided, and will only make UX shittier and less human-centred.

    At some point mobile and web technology came to the point where it is no longer year after year shows a significant breakthrough that will shape how we use these technologies today. This means that the best practices in most cases has been already developed. I’m a fresh ux/ui designer myself who just did a 600 hours course learning all that stuff you shown in a meme image (I just want to design) 😅

      Thanks! That is exactly right - it's gotten to a point where not just the designers but also stakeholders and even users know enough "good UX" to clearly know what they want. We're not as clueless anymore which leads to some bad decisions sometimes (lack of research) but most of the time it just saves money :)
