If I saw the first Slitheen episodes, I might think series one was totally geared towards kids, but that isn't the case. They put it a little earlier this time.
I absolutely love your reactions. Such a fresh take. With regards to jumping ahead from where you’re currently at with New who have you considered covering any of the classic stories from the original run?
As someone who tried series 1 when I first began Doctor Who and ended up skipping to Series 5 when I couldn't get into it, only to come back round again when I'd caught up, watching this show in a timey wimey way is the best 😀
I got read on another video when I suggested series 3 was a good jumping-on point because it's a new companion and references to the previous one were basically like a backstory. If you agree, please don't tell me; I was excoriated enough. :) I do love Eccleston and series 1, though.
@nupefromdaville - you’re spot on with your comments regarding the different ages of your kids enjoying different types of Who stories. Having said that, regardless of how whimsical the stories are, there still has to be conflict and drama within them, and I didn’t find any of that in this first episode. There was a bit more of it in the 2nd episode, and I think it would have been better to have made this episode the season opener, with it being a much stronger story than Space Babies was. Not sure this first episode is going to be strong enough to catch new fans who haven’t seen the series before, and keep them watching. Something else that a lot of fans are worried about, is that Russell T. Davies has already told us that this season is going to be more space fantasy led than it being about science fiction. Doctor Who has always thrived on science fiction concepts and whilst many classic and NuWho seasons had their fair share of fantasy episodes, the core of a season would be science fiction led. This is a worry for me, because RTD is writing about 2/3rds of the whole season, so he’s calling the shots completely when it comes to the tone and structure of the season. I also think that RTD has become so powerful in British television now, compared to where he was back in 2005, that there isn’t anyone (especially the BBC), that can say “No” to him, so all the LGBTQ+ references that were subtly referenced during his first tenure as show runner, is now so slap bang in your face, with no disguise, that it’s alienating its core support, i.e. the fans, many of whom started with the show back in 1963 (I started in 1970) and just want to watch a good science fiction show with no politics and no social messaging. Fans say, “why watch the show if you don’t like/hate it, and just want to criticise it?” What they don’t seem to understand is that those who criticise it are watching it in the hope that they do see a great episode the following week. It’s the hope that kills you, right? I wasn’t particularly enamoured with the first two episodes of this season, but I’ll be watching next week because it’s the return of Steven Moffat and I’m just hoping he’s written a story that is up there with the best of his episodes in RTD’s first run. The worry is, will he be allowed to do his own thing, or will he have to follow the RTD space fantasy mantra? I’m hoping it’s the former but won’t be too shocked and surprised if it’s the latter.
Small Spoiler: The doctor saying he is 1000 yrs old is a huge miscalculation he is at least between 2000 and for some people 2.4 billion years old. You will understand it later
Bring on Drag Race winner Jinkx Monsoon in the next episode and you'll see that this new season is not only aiming at a younger geographic. A fantastic drag act related to the Toy Maker???
10:39 I would have did the same thing. Wouldn’t be able to resist. 16:43 baby Ripley! lol 26:46 I agree with this take here. That showrunner was very whimsical in his writing. Not always my favorite but there are some good ones. Not surprising he comes out the gate whimsical. This was a mixed episode for me. I liked it overall. The doctor and Ruby have great energy and chemistry. Not a fan of the baby thing. A little much for me. I caught a little bit of your live session explaining why yall are keeping on with 14 while still doing season 3/4. I think your decision is solid and I support it. Might get some spoilers here and there but you may not know it in some cases or at least not know the context. Not a huge deal. Sometimes the Doctor’s timeline is like a river. Got to flow with it, no matter which direction it goes.
I just want to speak out to anyone who’s maybe in doubt of the season. It’s totally normal for anyone that may not be used to a new regenerated Doctor at first. I’m still trying to get used to Matt Smith’s Doctor but I just cant. I wouldn’t mind watch more episodes to convince me otherwise. I think there was same low energy when it first introduced that Sylvester Mcoy (8) as role of the Doctor. Hopefully, RTD can pull these seasons together and inspire the young audience and look up to Ncuti Gatwa as a role model. Like when we were first introduced to Christopher Eccleston as kids and Tennant (and so on) Time will come.
McCoy is 7, McGann is 8. But it's not McImportant, I get ya. Not every Doctor is for everybody, but I personally love them all. Should be interesting for you when Syntell & Rekkai get to Series 5 then.
From your reaction, I guess you've watched the Series 3 finale, but haven't posted it yet, so looking forward to that. I can see why you would want to farm views for getting here first with the new WHO, makes sense, I would too in your shoes. There are a few spoilers in this one for lore you hadn't got to yet, or for a long time yet in the main series. I thought about you both when I watched the show 1st time for myself last night and I heard those lines, I was like, "I guess that cat is free from the bag." I loved Baby Ripley too! The vats did remind me of you 2 doing Aliens recently too! In regard to companions, yeah Ruby is shaping up nicely, but they usually do a really good job building these characters. None have been universally loved, but also none have been majority hated on either. There are a few that could've used more development later on, but for the most part there have been no bad companions. And I don't know if you've seen any press yet for the coming seasons of the show, but they've hired an actress for Serial 2 of Nu WHO who is probably the most beautiful woman that's ever been on the show, like 👀Srsly 😍😻 😅I look forward to her debut!!
Yes, we finished season 3, that episode should be up by mon at the latest. We're also starting season 4 shortly as well. Season season 14 will be included as we catch up.

I noticed when The Dr was telling Ruby about the genocide of The Time Lords, he neglected to mention that he was the one who did it. lol. I wonder if this part of Dr Who lore, Disney may conveniently leave out.
i know y'all are getting some apprehension, but i love the cold reaction to season 14!!! the point of disney doing "new who" is that people would be able to watch without context, so this is great!
@Syntell are you guy sgonna react to the rest of the david tennant era, the Matt Smit era, and the capaldi era? You guys are sitting on a goldmine Tennants final season, and the 11th and 12th doctors. I love your reactions and what you guys do! Much love over here.
The way I see it, Doctor Who in the 60s was for kids, NuWho in 2005 was for the original fans who grew up and now they are trying to get new young fans. And you haven't seen the last few seasons yet but th new showrunner is trying to build on what they did last season so the subject of abandonneds babies is verry relevant and an opportinuty to get new fans.
@@Syntellthere’s also relatives of companions you are yet to travel with in this upcoming season, so that’s big spoilers for entire character arcs. On the surface I think the idea of skipping back and forth is quite fun and the spoilers you’ve noticed so far aren’t really detrimental, but the rest of us know from watching the trailers w more context, that you’ll have some major plot developments spoiled to you from the upcoming 2 seasons if y’all decide to continue. Do as y’all wish but I genuinely wouldn’t want you guys’ viewing experience to be ruined so much, since you’re having so much fun already😅
The Doctor doesn't usually explain all this. Bigger on the inside. Travels in time and space. Wanna go on a trip? Never never never saw the Doctor explain so much to a new companion. Although I think he should have explained more earlier before, he may be overcompensating now. (I know it's for the viewers more than for Ruby.) Okay, I would have liked more of alternate imperious Ruby. The Doctor is kind of a jerk about the butterfly effect (AGAIN). The immediate effects to the timeline are kind of explained by events in the three specials you didn't watch. This is just me, but I hate talking babies. Hey, _Bridgerton_ alert: Queen Charlotte.
Hopefully, spoilers will be at a minimum in this soft reboot... but you will def get SOME spoilers jumping ahead like this, its inevitable. Like the adopted thing. That was a BIG reveal during Whittaker's era (two Doctors ago.) Mostly because its big to get ANY reveal of the Doctor's origin. Hopefully, they don't reveal too much... because there were some major reveals in Capaldi and Whittaker's eras that would be an absolute shame to get spoiled on.
I thought you'd finish series 3 before hopping in here. This is called Neo Who, apparently. New Who (or NuWho) is series 1-13. Classic Who before that. And then there's the movie(s). Say, did you get a takedown on 3.12? It's hidden.
This was a good reaction to an episode I kinda hated.... It is a good thing they released Devil's Chord at the same time because I am sure I am not the only one... But it did provide some useful exposition in an engaging way.
Were continuing season 4 nothing has changed. We just wanted to make sure we continued where we left when we first started who and that was the Christmas episode of season 14
Are you going to be doing the next season of where you left off along side this season? Because I was looking forward to what was happening next with where you were before. I agree that doing this season may be a spoiler because because the way this doctor came about came with a new concept. I don't know if they'll talk about it in this season. But when I first heard of the concept (as I'm not caught up yet), it was a little confusing or ... different.
We're completeing this season and moving forward to season 4 as well. The train isn't stopping. We're just picking up where we started when we were first introduced to Doc Who and that was the Christmas episode of season 14
You shouldn't have skipped ahead. You skipped past Ncuti's first episode, the one introducing this companion. It would be like watching New Earth (Cat Nurses) without watching The Christmas Invasion (Tennant's first)
Good news for you! Check the archives of this channel and you'll see the Christmas special that introduced Ruby! It was their first-ever Who reaction video!
The christmas episode is actually where we were first introduced to Doctor Who as a franchise. That was the episode that inspired us to go to the archives and catch up. In all actuallity we're picking up where we started. But don't worry, we are continuing season 4 and finising up as much of the older season as humanly possible.
@@Syntelllove that you guys are taking the time to reassure these commenters lmao, dunno how future episodes might go for spoilers though, might be best to go maybe 2/1 to try and catch up quicker, but as always it's up you guys, and it's up to how much RTD wants to reference the recent past ya know? ncuti do be yapping about being adopted so ya never know 🤷
I wanted to like this doctor and this season, especially after the most recent few seasons and how terrible I thought they were, but the bad writing from the last few seasons has carried over into this one, despite the change in show runner and writers. There are some good elements from each episode here and there, but by and large it just doesn’t feel the same as the David Tennant and Matt Smith era. It doesn’t have the same fun charm as it used to, and I’m not a fan of the political parallels the writers are trying to push with the show. It’s always done a little bit of that here and there, very briefly, but it feels really heavy with the show as of the last few years.
I did cringe at the lip syncing of the babies, the child actors, every time space babies was mentioned. Good soundtrack. The references to prolifers and refugees will upset the right wingers.
@@stacyp2186 Yes, comic books. Maybe if they did something that was totally separate from canon, they could do a crossover, I guess. How they would delineate that, I don't know. but comic books, for sure.
It's camp, not cringe. Doctor Who has done camp a lot. Have you guys not seen Rose, New Earth, or episodes like Smith and Jones? It's lately become a fashion to hate anything new
Yeah, I thought it was absolutely awful. Easily the worst season opener so far. I came very close to switching it off. The Devil's Chord was better, even if it got a bit strange at the end.
Saw two first episodes...like it was so long..forst didn't have a villain at all and hardly a riddle to solve, just very long conversations that were so boring. Second episode had unnecessary woke gender identification that didn't play any role in a story "i am them" - ok, and how it is important? It was very forced, and also had such strange stretched plot, as if writer couldn't write anything more twisted and interesting...also that unexplainable dance at the end...why? You could write it in into the plot, why you made it even more unlogical than glee?
@benjames9158 they have 11 or 12 series to go before they get to the start of this...there are just too many stories to enjoy that aren't related that I doubt spoilers will be an issue.
big spoilers watching season 14 before previous seasons. All down the drain after season 10 anyway with that retcon. As a life long who fan of classic and modern dropped off after capaldi left. Don't know how you guys will feel with the season 12 retcon but it was really controversial.
I’ve watched Doctor Who since the 80s with the 7th being my “Doctor” and I initially thought that the revamp in05 would ruin this franchise…but I was mostly wrong though I didn’t like the way they tried to make all the companions be romantically inclined to him. The Doctor is an alien and doesn’t have human emotions. The show jumped the shark with Jodie Whitaker IMO
Not a fan of this episode this was an episode written for 5 year olds I like the chemistry between the Fifteenth Doctor and his companion Ruby but the story was rubbish.
Don't listen to people hating on this show. Nowadays everything is starting to get hate when they don't have characters who are straight white male. Even for a show that is known for representation since the first day,
@LauraGS564 That's not strictly true I like Ncuti as the Doctor and I think he's a fantastic actor and I been waiting for a black Doctor for along time yes theres some racist biggots out there but it's the stories and the writing that let's it down and more concerned about this episode I hate to say it was crap it's too disney-esk and juvenile it should be a science fiction first before going into representation.
@@joshuajoshua2732 Oddly enough, I thought this was more sci-fi than it might appear. A space-station crewed by babies sounds like a short story Brian Aldiss might have written.

Thank you for consistently showing up for us! Always appreciated!
We all growns up now 😂
@@Syntell LOLOLOLOLOL
"Tell your mom not to slap me" was a nice callback. This is the first companion mother who hasn't slapped him.
RTD doesn't have to take the suggestions, though.
First time ive turned on notifications for a channel. Cool idea, and you guys are super entertaining. Only tip i got is ignore the hate from certain people about certain seasons til u watch it, and keep giving us your real opinions like this, its great.
"Bernie Mac loves the kids!!!" LMAO!!!! WHAT?!?!? You guys are up on it??? Hell, I'll pause Reel Rejects to watch this!!! LOL!!!! Welcome to the wacky, wacky, wacky world of Season 14!!! And yes, "sounds like America," indeed!!! THANKS for this!!!!
Thanks!
Now that's a gesture of love.
Let's go!!
Seeing you guys watch Doctor Who out of order is cool. We could say your knowledge is more a ball of Wibbly-Wobbly, Timey-Wimey...stuff.
Lol
😂😅
It was a big decision but we're glad we made it.
@@Syntell You two are Sally Sparrow, trying to piece it together.
You'll probably end up getting spoilers for episodes between season 3 and this season.
Hope not. We'll roll with the punches
I love how everyone saw the forced growing, zero support scenario and said "America" 💀
The how do we count the Christmas specials debate lives on.
If I saw the first Slitheen episodes, I might think series one was totally geared towards kids, but that isn't the case. They put it a little earlier this time.
Bold move jumping ahead like this. We’ll see if it pays off in terms of viewing experience…
I think maybe ncuti gatwa was what brought them to the show in the first place
I absolutely love your reactions. Such a fresh take.
With regards to jumping ahead from where you’re currently at with New who have you considered covering any of the classic stories from the original run?
Thought I time traveled to a point where you are caught up with who
As someone who tried series 1 when I first began Doctor Who and ended up skipping to Series 5 when I couldn't get into it, only to come back round again when I'd caught up, watching this show in a timey wimey way is the best 😀
I got read on another video when I suggested series 3 was a good jumping-on point because it's a new companion and references to the previous one were basically like a backstory. If you agree, please don't tell me; I was excoriated enough. :) I do love Eccleston and series 1, though.
We all miss the Chucks!
Each Doctor has their own clothing style. So the chucks were signature Tennant.
Will you still be uploading series 3 and 4?
Small Spoiler: The doctor saying he is 1000 yrs old is a huge miscalculation he is at least between 2000 and for some people 2.4 billion years old. You will understand it later
Best not to blow Ruby's mind too much.
Bring on Drag Race winner Jinkx Monsoon in the next episode and you'll see that this new season is not only aiming at a younger geographic.
A fantastic drag act related to the Toy Maker???
10:39 I would have did the same thing. Wouldn’t be able to resist.
16:43 baby Ripley! lol
26:46 I agree with this take here.
I see what you did there. Or I think so, at least.
@@HuntingViolets you did indeed.
So glad you guys decided to do the new series now!
I'm not the biggest fan of Seven. So to each his own.
I thought about you both when I watched the show 1st time for myself last night and I heard those lines, I was like, "I guess that cat is free from the bag."
I loved Baby Ripley too!
@nupefromdaville Didn't I tell you about the S15 companion?!? LOL!!!!
Yes, we finished season 3, that episode should be up by mon at the latest. We're also starting season 4 shortly as well. Season season 14 will be included as we catch up.
@@Syntell Oh, good! I am anxiously awaiting that one. This is interesting. I'm also watching some other Who reactors and they're all over the place (although one day you and Casual Nerd Reactions synced up and posted the same episode; he's doing _Torchwood_ also, so that didn't last).
I noticed when The Dr was telling Ruby about the genocide of The Time Lords, he neglected to mention that he was the one who did it. lol. I wonder if this part of Dr Who lore, Disney may conveniently leave out.
Well, he didn't *really* do it, though.
i know y'all are getting some apprehension, but i love the cold reaction to season 14!!! the point of disney doing "new who" is that people would be able to watch without context, so this is great!
I don't feel hugely comfortable about mentioning anything about stuff you have yet to see.
We realize there's going to be some slip up from time to time with us skipping ahead. I'll cover my eyes if I see something a little to forthcoming 🙈
@@Syntell There'll be a lot of references to the very first episode of Who (back in 1963, the day after Kennedy was assassinated) in the next episode.
I enjoyed this and the next ep. Solid fun viewing.
Loved your take on this one.
I thought you'd finish series 3 before hopping in here. This is called Neo Who, apparently. New Who (or NuWho) is series 1-13. Classic Who before that. And then there's the movie(s). Say, did you get a takedown on 3.12? It's hidden.
"Of course a Black man does this" -- I feel like I could answer whether he did it before if I were clear on what the "this" refers to here?
Haha yall cheating 😂
This was a good reaction to an episode I kinda hated.... It is a good thing they released Devil's Chord at the same time because I am sure I am not the only one... But it did provide some useful exposition in an engaging way.
Weird question but how does Disney + release stuff for shows because this is the only one i will watch as it comes
Space Babies! Russell, you mad lad 😂 they're so cute ✨️
After second episode i think this season have more in stock that i could imagine
why did you skip to season 14?
@@Syntelllove that you guys are taking the time to reassure these commenters lmao, dunno how future episodes might go for spoilers though, might be best to go maybe 2/1 to try and catch up quicker, but as always it's up you guys, and it's up to how much RTD wants to reference the recent past ya know? ncuti do be yapping about being adopted so ya never know 🤷
I liked this ep, but it is a bit introductory. The next one felt more like they were getting into the swing of things.
Ncuti himself was a refugee, so that is an emotional touchstone for him.
I found the frequent repetition of "Space Babies" a bit annoying. How long until Disney bring out a "Space Babies" movie or series?
Youll see some dinosaurs in 2 stories when you carry on with the earlier stuff and they are every bit as good (effects wise) as this one.....
NO WATCHING OUT OF ORDER.
They're keeping the order. They just finished 3 and will start 4 after a hiatus.
Too late now.
Blonde, 19, name beginning with R that refers to a shade of red, working class accent . . .
I wish they would crossover with Star Trek but since it’s Disney, they have a better chance of crossing over with Star Wars. lol.
I hope they don't crossover with either of them. That's better left for fanfiction, I think.
@@HuntingViolets and comic books.

The Devil's Chord was better, even if it got a bit strange at the end.

what happened to doctor who
Saw two first episodes...like it was so long..forst didn't have a villain at all and hardly a riddle to solve, just very long conversations that were so boring.
Uhhh this was a weird decision
Not if you want new subscribers. "Doctor Who" is worldwide so no one should leave this money on the table :)
We're still on board with season 4 and onward.
We're just including season 14 as we catch up.
@@IsiahBradley I meant more for the fact they'll spoil stuff for themselves
@benjames9158 they have 11 or 12 series to go before they get to the start of this...there are just too many stories to enjoy that aren't related that I doubt spoilers will be an issue.
In my early 30s. This was disappointing lol
big spoilers watching season 14 before previous seasons. All down the drain after season 10 anyway with that retcon. As a life long who fan of classic and modern dropped off after capaldi left. Don't know how you guys will feel with the season 12 retcon but it was really controversial.
Doesn't feel like a spoiler because it really doesn't lay out anything that happened before...yet.
It was a big decsion to jump ahead. but we felt it was what everyone would have wanted.
Trust, we are certainly looking forward to catching up.
It was no retcon. It was a new plot point, that's what Doctor Who has been doing for his entire eras. Gosh, people are so whiny these days
@LauraGS564 your actually whining!!?

Yes, i agree with people calling this a weird decision. Should follow the show as it is supposed to be watched. There'll be talks of episode you've not seen. Should just stick with the natural order.

We're continuing the order, nothing has changed. We're also including season 14 as we catch up.
@@Syntell Well, I started with series one of New Who (2005) instead of Classic Who. This back and forth is different but just another kind of time travel, really. Anyway, it's different and therefore interesting.
