“The best thing to do as a first-time founder is to build the product [before approaching VC to raise money].” - simple, but extremely important advice especially for low capex startups. Nowadays there are tons of tools (prototyping, cloud credits, etc) to cost efficiently build a minimum viable product and test it with real users
VCs aren't for startups in software especially
Nope, building the product(s) should be the last thing, first validate your idea with strong credentials from your potential users.

I remember Marc from the 90s during Mosaic amd Netscape era. Apparently, his amazing visionary skills led to his continous success on everything he involves in!

The wisest thing that should be on every wise individual's list is to invest in different stream of income and don't depend on the government to bring in money especially now the pandemic is hitting the economy

We are 100% confident we are wrong 90% of the time when we make an investment in a company.
This is exactly how you should interview people.

I think that was to show the growth of the fund and not the fact that $300 million is less.

@@dawnglianapachuau6433 it's not always a straight line. There are several funds with a similar base that haven't had as much success.

Indeed, but that’s his personal culture and money that’s not uncommon to those he interviews.
It is going to be interesting to see how these VC firms in Silicon Valley will do during the next down turn... I have a feeling you're going to see quite a bit of pain. A lot of good ideas.... But people forget these idea's have to produce profit...
I don't know how investing works. Do they own a percentage of the company in return for giving the startup money?
I don't know who needs to hear this, you've got to stop saving money, invest some part of it, if you really want financial freedom
Invest in bitcoin,dogecoin, gold, silver, but stock, forex market, commodities. Just invest and save yourself

Doesn’t WB preach about diversifying ? 2nd question- how could he then turn around and say to put 100,000 dollars in SP 500. That’s total diversification !!!

so there is no face to bit coin but people invest in it"?`` how did they raise money? why would you buy into something that has no source
David is a very smart guy but look at how he tries to tease out the nuances of VC from Marc, especially the fundraising rounds and incredible rates of returns, that puts PE (David’s turf) to great shame and envy.
Something doesn’t add up and David knows it.
But don't VCs also take a larger risk?

VC funds raise funds from institutions such as endowment funds or sovereign wealth funds, so its easier to end up racing this significant amount
