@BmansWorld There's a few that weren't ever released in the West so they would need remakes. this game is seriously incredible, I'm not even done with it yet and it feels like a top 3 fire emblem game for me personally, the gameplay is so fun and rewarding. I'm playing on hard classic and for once it actually feels hard! The game gives you enough tools to make any situation manageable but actually having to get creative with emblem usage is what has made this game stand out so much. I'm excited to eventually replay it on maddening!
I did that DLC Tiki map on Maddening and MY GOOOOSHHHH was it hard. The constant dragon reinforcements had me calculating each turn like a puzzle where even the Squishies had to be accounted for (being able to take a hit). It was an experience for sure. When I finally beat it at the end I got that feeling of "ahhhhh chef's kiss euphoria". But WOW was that hard.
Did it at CH 8. Took me 60 turns and 1.5 hours. Used all my time charges and had to pretty much play perfectly for the last 30 minutes. Those dragon reinforcements were brutal.
Fun fact, if you missed the silver card, you can get it if you do a skirmish on the divine paralogue, you will not get it on the trial replay if you missed it
cause its a very easy game, which feels like a problem, cause whatever game is next isn't gonna be this, same to 3H from before or awakening to before, they keep making "first timers" entries with no follow up so every game is divisive
@@marcusclark1339 hmm i wouldn’t say easy Im playing Hard Mode Classic and its definitely a challenge But i can agree that some of the rings and characters are OP
Engage is an absolute masterpiece on so many levels. Devs mixed so many pieces together and represented the legacy of FE so so well. Can't get enough of it either and your thoughts are spot on for me. Cheers and happy grinding
You are my most trusted and liked RPG review guy, you actually can hear how much appreciate the games you like. Persona 5 is amazing, and I wouldn't have played if you didn't exist.
Preach it! That’s what I’m saying! The gameplay here is just absolutely perfection!!! It is so much stinking fun!! This is how I felt playing Awakening as my first game, and it’s also why I love Fates despite the story not being great. Fates was the best combat/mechanics imo up to this point, but this game just blows everything out of the water.
I love the game. Although the story is a bit bumpy at times. And the characters stories seem a bit flat. but the character designs are great and the voice acting is great to, and the colours!
Gameplay is absolutely peak. Definitely recommend it to long time Fire Emblem fans. But if you’re someone who needs a story along with your gameplay. Then probably better off waiting till it comes on sale somewhere or the eshop.
That Tiki map took me 45 turns to complete and it was a hoot. It also made me love my girl Yunaka as I found her personal ability increases her crit chance when she's in cover zones. So I hid her in pillars on the map for cover which meant she dodged every attack and was crit-ing fools left and right. So much fun.
Yeah it was rough. I had to go back to the map a 2nd time by spawning a skirmish there since I forgot to get the Silver Card (shiny spot by the lake in the upper left). The skirmish wasn't a walk in the park either. It spawns you literally in the middle of the trident. Easier to get my Silver Card that way but I had to hole up in the middle trident to pick them off one by one.
@@LuckySevn717 I got the silver card the first time but it probably added 10 turns to my battle. I had no idea if the three spawning enemies on the south end would ever stop and I was not going to short myself a unit unless I was sure they would. Did I mention when I started that map my average level was like...8? XD
@@regaleagle6533 I'm not near my Switch now so I can't check to be sure. Maybe it does in the Paralogues? I think in the main story each map does give a level recommendation before you enter it.
That is the 1st Fire Emblem that I play (I try 2 or 3 others, but never get to far). I'm 25h in, chapter 14, and i'm lovin it. The history is not awsome, but its not bad, is simple but enough. And the gameplay... Amazing! Playing normal - classic and i very ofter have to restart the battle for losing someone
To be honest, if people really "need" a story to drive through the gameplay, I would question why they don't just watch movies instead of playing games, or at the very least, I would highly question why they like tactical/strategy games because it sounds like these people don't like them. I don't mean this to sound insulting or elitist, but if someone cannot bring themselves to enjoy the gameplay because the story isn't the next Witcher or whatever, I seriously question why they play games in this genre for. Don't get me wrong, it's nice to have a great narrative and world building, but none of that can really save a poor game anyway.
Your video is the first negative things I’ve ever heard about this game, lol. Honestly, I’m not really out there looking for what people think though, as a Fire Emblem fan I picked it up with pretty low expectations, thought it would be pretty cool, and I’m pleasantly surprised at how deep and complex it is. I’m absolutely loving it and I’m only about 10 hours in. So much fun. I think they did a great job.
The story is hilarious and campy lmao, especially the support which are short but sounds like a sitcom scene. I like the story, though not the same way I love genealogy. Anyways the AMAZING gameplay especially on hard mode compensates the sitcom level story!
This game is so much more respect and praise. He died it. It’s unbelievable how good it looks how improve it is compared graphically to the last fire emblem.
Maybe I was missing something but I didnt really play three houses for the story and I thought it was incredibley anime tropey like what people are saying about this one. but the fights remind me of 7 and 8 a tactics game instead of a collect a waifu game. Both have their... benefits but I love fire emblem because of the tactics and I am glad its coming back in full force.
Also Louis with sigaurd is a sick early combo like a pegusus knight that can go and murder a mage and tank everything else. Very much looking forward to the battles ahead on maddening difficulty.
Saw arlo’s review of the game and he said the story was so bad he couldn’t play. Maybe I’m just that big a fire emblem fan but I couldn’t care less if the gameplay is amazing. Which it is. Story is a good addition to games obviously but I play for the gameplay in almost every game I play.
I'm about 30 hours in and my biggest issue with this game, and the reason I think Three Houses was such a masterpiece, is the lack of connection with the characters. Every other story mission introduces new characters that join your party and those characters are always way more powerful than your current group of characters. This creates a situation where you are basically always giving up on your current characters and moving to the new ones. Three Houses was so amazing because you spent the entire game with a core set of characters and you followed them on this long, substantial journey. By the end of that game you developed really strong bonds with certain characters and that bond translated into a deep appreciation of the game itself. In this game all the characters are basically just throw-away pieces that are only useful for a very brief period of time.
Basically every other FE is like that though lol. As unfortunate as that was, 3H really put a bar super high up with 5 story branches being able to flesh out your cast in multiple ways. Because lets be completely honest, if 3H was just one route, it wouldn't be as deep with its entire cast. Like I don't want to say it cheated in that regard but....having ALL of those replays with different scenarios gave it a literal edge over every other existing FE made.
Yeah I'm having a hard time giving up my early units because i grew attached to them but they definitely aren't putting in that work compared to the new units
There's a pretty good gameplay reason too. Suppose someone wanted to do a classic nuzlocke run where deaths are permanent and you cant reset. You'll have lost all the investment for that character. This is one solution. I believe even as far back as shadow dragon you had to lose a certain amount of units to recruit certain units. In other games you could have prepromotes join later or have child units. So all in all, I think this was approached well.
Funny enough, I feel complete opposite. The cast in 3H didn't really give me that attached feeling except for some units like Dimitri, Eldegard, Claude,... Starting from my second playthrough the rest of the cast in 3H is just meh to me because I know behind all of those support story they're gonna die anyway if they're not recruited into my house. Starting from my third playthrough I didn't even want to bother reading their support anymore.
Agreed 100% with your views, while I liked the social aspects of Three House and multiple story path, Engage I feel is more rewarding. Battle wise honesty Engage need you to think very hard even when you grind for levels, still it literally can but smack you in the face on skirmishes not like Three House where as at certain point, literally you can battle everything without any casualty with combination of long range mage type and certain decent frontlines. Onto story, developer certainly deserves much applaud for integrating cut scenes in every narrative,
The story ain't going to win any awards, but everything else is probably peak Fire Emblem (bar Genealogy of Holy War and Awakening as far as integrating gameplay and character development being interwined). Animations, UI/UX, gameplay, tactical design of every map, etc... It's honestly great. While I still belive the 2 best Fire Emblem games I've played are the ones I mentioned before, but this one is such a great complete package that it's possibly the first console FE I've liked so much since Path of Radiance.
Man, Im addicted too. I already beat the game 2 days ago and I just keep going. I must say this is the best Fire Emblem gameplay wise, I get it the story is a bit wonky at times but it's not that bad. I find the story decent and just seeing the references with the previous characters just makes my heart melt (especially with Sigurd). I have hope when the genealogy remake comes out that game will be a banger.
What matters most 1) characters and charcter development: 2/10 ( every single character falls under a Prince/princess or there retainer. Copied and pasted 10 times. Almost all dialogue lines feel empty or could be swapped out with any character. Very little in the way of strong personalities seen in 3 houses. 2) Story: 3/10 ( Not only is the story bland, but is constantly inconsistant with what is displayed on screen. Characters are often surrounded in cutscene only to have scaped immediatly after without any explanation. Beaten bosses run away without chase. 3) Combat: 8/10 ( Combat is at its best visually with a nice touch to weapons no longer breaking and adjustments to how "Great" weapons inflict knockback. However Emblem rings are an awful addition clearly capatalising on the fact that most players know Fire emblem from Smash Bros. It absolutely sucks that you can't power up or train your weaker units. I think the characters in this game look very good however the dialogue offered from each is terrible. 3 Houses is far greater for story and characters with a beter focus on slowly building each character over time as opposed to having all of these broken emblem characters with OP abilities. If we had the writers from 3 houses working on this game it could have been the best in the series. As it stands its one step forward 2 steps back.
I think the gameplay is amazing. In and out of battle. Combat might be the best in the series. Emblems are great. Overworld is so much better than 3H. However, the horrible writing makes it incredibly difficult to get attached to any units. I'm more attached to the emblems than the units they're attached to. I just wish they picked better Lords for the Emblems. Namely Hector and Ephraim over Lyn and Eirika.
I am really loving the gameplay - perhaps the most streamlined and interesting in FE history? The story and characters I am feeling less cringy about the more I play, but it's still a step down from 3 Houses.
The gameplay only gets better as you find strats that work for you and grinding it out on hardmode with 20 minute long battles are so rewarding. Not in any mood to rush through
I grew up on corny stories from JRPGs so that is the reason I like the story of this game. Yeah, there were always JRPGs with amazing stories such as Final Fantasy and such that came over but I fell more in love with Dragon Quest (aka Dragon Warrior when I first played it) than Final Fantasy and they typically followed the same goofy story with dark undertones. The story reminds me of simpler times. The supports are memorable for me since quite a few of them had me busting my gut from laughing so hard. To each their own though. I have my own biased perspective as do others.
Just bought it because it has almost every character from Smash (Fire Emblem characters of course) and I hope they released Chrom & Robin for the Wave 2 DLC. Loving this franchise even more.
Omg I sunk so much time in killing the 4 hounds in that one map where you’re supposed to run away. It wasn’t even the objective, but I was like “bet I can take yalls on” and just spent forever killing EVERYTHING on the map (the 4 Hounds, the 2 dragons, etc.). None of my characters were even level 20 at the end of the round, but this self-imposed challenge was so much fun. This was classic mode, so I had to make sure everyone survived, but it was on normal difficulty so I had infinite rewinds once that became available again 😅 Did anyone else do this too?
I don’t get people complaining about the story and characters… I love all of this. This game is so fun and the story is under appreciated. I know it’s camp, but so is most of anime. That only adds to the charm.
omg Tiki map was so brutal. I was so scared because by the end of it I was runing out of healing and the reinforcment kept coming. So happy when I succeded it was so tight.
For the hard Tiki DLC map, I cheesed it with a Thief Evasion Tank strategy. When you first get to that Ice floor tile, Bring your Thief and Cavalry on the right. The Cavalry s job is to make it all the way around the castle to get the Unique 30% discount item around it (With atleast 6 total Vulnerary Items to survive Dragon Frost breaths). Your Thief's job is to sit in the bottom woods tiles the entire mission south of the stairs. REASON being that random trios of strong enemies will spawn here INFINITELY once you get the first sigil for Tiki's gate and will not stop spawning until you finally opened it. Your Cavalry does nothing once you got that Item, Your Thief will stall and kill all enemies while only having trouble against mage, which you want high Avoid atleast 60+. For the center of the map, have your Archer with Mini 5+, Iron 3+, AND long bow for each range. You put them inside the pillars for the avoid buff and camp the enemies out will safely assisting the adds. Your archer will chip all 3 of the boss(Tiki Dragon) and you can finish her with your Engage skills when you know for sure you can confirm the final revive she has. Make sure to have the Dawn Avoid Crest on the mini bow for max evasion and Long bow with whatever you like. EDIT: with hit rates, I've been very lucky. But there was a occasion that I actually recorded where my damn mage MISSED a 99% hit rate Thunder. I started laughing with my brother.
Loving it so far, especially the music and graphics! Only a few hours in so far and the only downside is that not everything is voiced like it was in Three Houses. For Three Houses I was actually shocked that even minor NPC’s were voiced lol and it definitely made the game much better. I wouldn’t mind it as much if the auto-advance didn’t automatically go to the next text even when the dialogue isn’t voiced…
First time playing a Fire Emblem game and playing it on Hard casual. Fantastic game. Will defo be playing multiple playthroughs as I get better at the game and increase the difficulty levels. So much fun!
I like this game. Three Houses was good too. I hope this one sells just as good or better. I would enjoy seeing a new or remastered Fire Emblem every 3 or 4 years.
I dont get why some people overreact about the story that it pulls down their enjoyment of the game. The combat is where its at, its still an sprg to the core so thats what matters to me and not like people giving some negatives to it just because the story is not up to what they want and the social sim stuffs.
@@johnymcmuffins7898 my only qualm is 10 rewinds is too many, and if we had to have 10 on Hard mode Maddening should have been down to 5 or something. I never thought it would get more prevalent than Three Houses across the board. Infinite rewinds on Normal/Easy makes me wonder what is the point of even playing the game?

I salute everyone that plays maddening/lunatic, I just don't have the time or patience to fully utilize every aspect of the game. I already put 60 hrs in on hard/classic. Really fun game. Sword master lapis/Lyn emblem and sage Chloe/Erika are my coolest units
I'm enjoying the game a lot, but it's discouraging finding out there is no New Game +. I guess maybe I'll just replay next year after all the DLC comes out.
That anybody would be UPSET about any of this is interesting to me. I played 3 houses for 200+ hours and went through 6 playthroughs. And I still love this. I, of course, loved the lore of three houses more. But how could I be upset about this game? It’s so freakin good
I'm fine with campy stories and am thoroughly enjoying this. Reminds me of ff x-2 xenoblade 2 and x Also I agee that you gotta play on classic in order to truly appreciate the weight and reward of each battle. I prooly wouldn't even bother using the time stone on lower difficulty
I completed my run on maddening/classic and it was great. The story was okayish , the supports some where quite good. Overall I had fun but one big complain for me is there’s no new game plus.
I used to play Age of empires and I’ve been trying to find a game that replaces my childhood feelings for that game. And I think fire emblem is it. At least the newer games for me. My first one was three houses so I think ima enjoy this game as well.
It's a fantastic game. I just wish the dialog hadn't been so heavily modified due to to laziness & expense to remove all gender inflections so either body type has the exact same conversations (and thereby removing any benefit of choice), and that all romance options hadn't been turned into friendships - also likely due to ensuring all conversations between body types are identical. Great game, lazy & cheap localization. And now I await all the strawman accusations that I want to romance children. Oh, wait. I turned-off reply notifications, so I won't be waiting. I'll continue on with my day secure in the knowledge that my statement is factual while others attempt to defend this lazy & cheap writing by attempting to make accusations I'll never be responding to, making said accusations ineffective & pointless! Except for that one person who stated awhile back that Fire Emblem never had romance options - never figured out what alternate reality they were from.
I just wish it has new game plus. Cause even though it's just a single playthrough, I still wanna play through it another time but as my stronger units instead of starting from scratch if you wanna start a new game again.
Since I don’t believe in myself and think that maybe I wouldn’t be able to finish the game on the hard mode and classic I am playing on causal, but every time a character dies I have to restart the map. I’ve just finished chapter 11, and boy what a map lol (had to replay it once cuz I lost Alfred for the last mob)
I love this Fire Emblem, it’s pretty good. Of course I play on Maddening Classic from the start. It’s far easier than the 3 Houses Maddening which was far harder than the Hard mode in 3 Houses, but the only way to play a real Fire Emblem game in 3 Houses. This FE is a return to the true FE gameplay.
It has the best combat of any SRPG I'd argue, very hard to put the game down. If I have ONE gripe, it's the loading times, I wish they were shorter. Other than that, it's perfect.
The game’s great. I like that they reduced the social sim features. Three Houses wasn’t a bad game at all, but the social sim in that game didn’t appeal to me. I much prefer how Engage has it set up. Not too overbearing, but it’s still there. The story is okay. I didn’t mind it at all. If you like SRPGs, it’s a must buy to add to the collection.
I just finished the game and it was great, and to be honest the story is quite nice(people were were exaggerating over the story, ALSO People a generic story does NOT equal a bad game) it's much better than a LOT of the older fire emblem games, and i liked the cast aswell(i forgot about a couple of them since i don't use them, but thats with every FE) also the gameplay is the same as it has always been, the engage system was quite cool as well(kinda reminded me of Armatization from Tales of zesteria) so all in all it's good game and a great start to the year a solid 8/10 from me.
Playing all day every day then. Rest of us lucky an hour a day. Still got persona 5 to do also and octo2 also comes soon. That's months now.. then zelda
Eh this hame way to freakin easy im on maddening breezing through. 3 houses was alot harder and took more strategy l. Or maybe i just got rlly good at fire emblem after playing 3 houses for 500 hrs?
Got to go maddening. It’s actually possible and well balance compare to some other game where it was impossible without cheesing it. I’m at chapter 17 and feel find
I don’t think the story is bad per-se, just predictable. But I don’t necessarily think that is an awful thing, it’s simple and there are benefits in simplicity.
While I've got a handful of technical gripes, they aren't with the core gameplay. The reworked weapon triangle and the class type abilities (backup, covert, mystical, etc.) are the first mechanics I've seen since FE5 that I think can go beyond "gimmick of the game" level and become a staple for the series moving forward. FE1 created a baseline for the series, while 3 followed suit, and 2 was... experimental. FE4 introduced the weapon triangle and skills. FE5 allowed the Constitution to offset weapon weight, added rescue mechanics, and introduced a double strike speed threshold (must be 4 faster than the opponent.) I guess you could give Shadows of Valentia credit for Combat Arts as a worthwhile addition to the core mechanics of the series, although honesty, I don't feel Valentia or 3 Houses got it quite right, and we need to see it fleshed out more. The other mechanics, Biorythm (The FE Equivalent to Smash Bros. Tripping) 3DS Support Pairing, the Monastary, I very much see as things to make specific games stand out, but are not meant to be present in all entries. Now that being said, I don't think it's perfect. Covert's double terrain bonus is FAR too powerful, especially when combined with Byleth's fog creation, and other avoid skills. I also think the current break system is a little too powerful. Adding an additional requirement for breaks I think is in order. Steel weapons have traditionally been the ugly duckling due to being heavier than iron and silver weapons, but I think giving them and other heavy weapons break resistance could really help them out.
The only problem I had was when a couple of my units was lv 20 ready to level up I didn't get them the right profeicy in certain stuff so I couldn't promote them to the one who I want and not a real problem but sucks my favorite emblem character you didn't get to till late
- Less Classes - Less Weapons - Shallow Characters - Shallow Plot - No Meaningful Downtime Activities - No Meaningful Supports - No Player Choice - Lolis Everywhere (Pedo Bait) - The Break Mechanic
Just wanted to say that the "Corrupted" song is just so FIRE!!! Every time it comes on, I start vibin'. Makes me feel bad when I kill them tho cuz I love their soundtrack
I especially like how Intelligent Systems commited and doubled down on the comic relief cast of characters rather than attempting to write a great story and fall off ending up with a story that makes no sense *cough* fates *cough*. Engage isn't trying to impress anyone with the story -- and they don't need to, yet still wrote a simple enough story that make sense in it's own right. Characters are goofy gimmicky but not single-dimension troupe and overall lovable. As much as I love Three Houses lore, settings and their characters (played all 4 routes + DLC, 2 of them on maddening), the gameplay experience is sorely lacking especially in the 2nd half of the game. To anyone who are still considering whether to get Engage or not, coming from someone who played all games from FE6 onwards (most on maddening/lunatic), Engage has the greatest gameplay and it's a must-have if you're a SRPG fan.
pretty much, its a hold over game with easier gameplay, its gonna get praise just by that unfortunately, its a game to skip especially if u already played 3H cause if u want a easy game to "start with" any of the new stuff is, which is part of the problem its just a mid game thats easy
@@marcusclark1339 Not sure where you're getting the idea that Engage is easy. It has way better combat system compared to 3H and far more depth for strategic plays, and by no means that imply that the game is easy.
I'm loving the game. My biggest criticism though, is the writing feels more juvenile than 3H. There seems to be too many anime tropes, that they seemed to be steering away from in 3H.
Yep can't complain it's to easy when you pick the easiest mode. I also doubt this reviewer never lost a unit either. They said I didn't get completely wiped out on the easiest difficulty.
Sigh…35 hours and I can’t continue. The writing and story are just not good. I think you love the gameplay so much rightly so that your accepting this bland and uninteresting story more than you normally would. I went back and played the first hour of three houses, and that writing and world and character appeal did more than I have felt here in 35 hours…character design is awesome and so is combat but the world itself is blind and barely passable in its writing. No character shave any value outside the same 5. Other entries in the series do such a better job making your characters feel like they matter and elevates gameplay. I love colors and everything but…I think I’m taking a break from the game. I have no driving force to compete their story and it sad for me as a fan. And the emblem conversations are terrible lol Now triangle strategy, THAT was a complete package. What a banger. And it is a much better package than this game. It had all the gameplay praise as this, along with great writing. It only beats three houses in combat but as a package it’s a step back objectively. What good is any rpg without any driving force in story and it’s characters….sigh. I was so addicted until I wasn’t and I wish it were different.
I'm having the exact opposite experience... with Three Houses, I couldn't stop playing, couldn't wait to pick it up again. With Engage, I'm forcing myself to keep playing because the story and characters don't make me interested at all...
I actually played until somniel got unlocked, then resumed playing pathfinder wrath of the righteous, cause im more hooked on it even tho i already have 500h. The comparison with 3H is painful, i finished claude and edelgarde, and played a bunch of blue lions before moving on. The only FE game that absorved me more than that was Awakening.
I'm really considering picking this up, looks solid. but i never played a fire emblem game. not sure if its easy to just jump in at this point of the series.
Does this game have a good tutorial? I've never played these games but I'm really drawn to this one. I understood very little during any section that showed the map lol
Engage is probably not going to knock Parh of Radiance/the Tellius series from the top spot of favorite FE games, but if it keeps going at the pace it does, it’ll make top 5, maybe top 3. To me, the gameplay is great, the story is fun (especially when you steer into its campiness), and it flows so nicely. Is it cliche and predictable sometimes? Sure, but just because it’s predictable doesn’t mean it’s bad, especially when you got gameplay like this
I think people put too much stock in the story elements. Not that they shouldn't, but so far I feel like they are actually on the level of supports from FE7. FE3H was a huge outlier in it's characters and writing because they were much more ambitious then most Fire Emblem games. Engage is a traditional FE game and that's fine. It's better than Awakening and Fates and that is good enough for me.
People are too hard on the story. It's a solid 6/10. Serviceable, fine, adequate, average. There's nothing wrong with that, and the gameplay is a blast.
Same for me!!! I think I’m close to finishing it! It’s the best FE game to me thus far! Not gonna lie, I’m glad it doesn’t have all that text/talking. Tiki’s map was no joke! I didn’t think I was gonna win! This game is making me want to play Shadow Dragon which I downloaded but never started.
Honestly I would say either of the two games are great. I have well over 150 hours on Three Houses, and already at 35 hours on Engage. Engage is definitely a lot smoother and prettier to look at imo though.
Love this game. Just makes me want even more fireemblem games, with remakes of the Emblem characters stories I have not experienced.

Did it at CH 8.
Took me 60 turns and 1.5 hours.
Used all my time charges and had to pretty much play perfectly for the last 30 minutes.
Those dragon reinforcements were brutal.
Fun fact, if you missed the silver card, you can get it if you do a skirmish on the divine paralogue, you will not get it on the trial replay if you missed it
After 42 rounds I got it done without a loss and no more time gem uses
there is a causal way for this, just camp all reinforcements, u won't aggro those stationary enemies in the center.
I fell in love with the series on GBA.. It’s the main reason why I went back to Nintendo systems.. Well and Civilization.. Both in the strategy family
Honestly same
Its by far the most fun ive had in a fire emblem game
cause its a very easy game, which feels like a problem, cause whatever game is next isn't gonna be this, same to 3H from before or awakening to before, they keep making "first timers" entries with no follow up so every game is divisive
@@marcusclark1339 hmm i wouldn’t say easy
Im playing Hard Mode Classic and its definitely a challenge
But i can agree that some of the rings and characters are OP
Engage is an absolute masterpiece on so many levels. Devs mixed so many pieces together and represented the legacy of FE so so well. Can't get enough of it either and your thoughts are spot on for me. Cheers and happy grinding
3 houses was overrated AF. Engage is the classic FE I wanted
The ring experimentation will keep me addicted for a while. Also the gameplay is a lot better than 3 Houses
XD
@@ariwl1 doesn’t the level just scale?
I feel sorry for everyone not playing this game
I still use Louis he's an absolute beast with Emblem Sigurd and he looks cool with his hair
What matters most
1) characters and charcter development: 2/10 ( every single character falls under a Prince/princess or there retainer.
I’m enjoying engage a lot more than three houses and I love the characters in this game more!
I am really loving the gameplay - perhaps the most streamlined and interesting in FE history? The story and characters I am feeling less cringy about the more I play, but it's still a step down from 3 Houses.
Literally installing it now
I went for hard/classic too, and I'm enjoying the hell out of this game. That Tiki map took me by surprise!
This was classic mode, so I had to make sure everyone survived, but it was on normal difficulty so I had infinite rewinds once that became available again 😅
Did anyone else do this too?
I’m enjoying this game and I’ve been playing fire emblem since radiance
Started the FE series with Three Houses, loved that game. I'm loving Engage just as much. Fantastic series.
The gameplay is great in Engage however I really liked 3H story. And yes I did a maddening/classic playthrough of Verdant Wind.
I think I'm addicted to Fire Emblem Divine One as well. Currently working through the DLC map... It's something else on Maddening 😭
Ya it’s the hardest map for me so far lol which is nice to see from a dlc map. If I was ready for it building my team I think it would be different
I'm addicted to it too! I was pleasantly surprised by how deep it goes!
I love that fire emblem is starting to be more main stream. Such a great franchise.
Tiki Paralogue was fun indeed, the wyvern plus random enemy spam from the bottom of the map was a good endurance fight.
I'm playing on Hard/Classic as well. The rewind feature can actually make things very forgiving.
Thats why its a bad feature. Im maddening and find the game waaaaaaay to easy
You could also just impose the restriction onto yourself. One of your characters dies just restart the mission like in old FE.
@@CalciumChloride4 or just let it die cuz theres no difference in resetting vs divine pulsing
@@johnymcmuffins7898 you could divine pulse back to beginning, but he’s referring to divine pulsing to a few moves back; thus, there being a difference.
Hard mode is great. I thought it was gonna be to easy.
Getting excited for for my no ring run.
Are you planning to use inherited skills still?
oh that's a great idea, a no ring run sounds super challenging
That anybody would be UPSET about any of this is interesting to me. I played 3 houses for 200+ hours and went through 6 playthroughs. And I still love this. I, of course, loved the lore of three houses more. But how could I be upset about this game? It’s so freakin good
I'm fine with campy stories and am thoroughly enjoying this. Reminds me of ff x-2 xenoblade 2 and x
Also I agee that you gotta play on classic in order to truly appreciate the weight and reward of each battle. I prooly wouldn't even bother using the time stone on lower difficulty
I completed my run on maddening/classic and it was great. The story was okayish , the supports some where quite good. Overall I had fun but one big complain for me is there’s no new game plus.
I would buy this game if I wasn’t still addicted to Xenoblade 3, I’m on my 4th play through right now.
Tiki's map legit took me 2hrs plus. I had work the next day but i couldn't put it down even though it was 1am
I got 10 hours in on chapter 10 watched some of your videos on tutorial a d started again having abit more knowledge and loving it
Yeah Im playing through this game on maddening/classic. Im on chapter 7 and I had to restart the map 25 times. Very brutal.
Top tier game story is fine to me. I am 30+ hours in and I am loving it.
How are you able to finish a 50+ hours game in the 5 days the game became available ? Even 2h a day it will last me 5 weeks o_0
Playing all day every day then. Rest of us lucky an hour a day. Still got persona 5 to do also and octo2 also comes soon. That's months now.. then zelda
I like it better than 3 houses it definitely looks better and the soundtrack is better but 3 houses is a great game
Eh this hame way to freakin easy im on maddening breezing through. 3 houses was alot harder and took more strategy l. Or maybe i just got rlly good at fire emblem after playing 3 houses for 500 hrs?
@@johnymcmuffins7898 , heh repetition is indeed the mother of skill.
I agree 3 houses was a bit harder I'm kinda breezing thru engage but I always do my 1st play thru on normal for the story then my 2nd on hard
Fire Emblem is always fun.
I will definitely check out this game. I am glad to hear that this game have great review. Thank you for your review bro. I appreciate you.
The only problem I had was when a couple of my units was lv 20 ready to level up I didn't get them the right profeicy in certain stuff so I couldn't promote them to the one who I want and not a real problem but sucks my favorite emblem character you didn't get to till late
How, it's such a dull plot and there is no reason to be invested into the characters.
- Less Classes
- Less Weapons
- Shallow Characters
- Shallow Plot
- No Meaningful Downtime Activities
- No Meaningful Supports
- No Player Choice
- Lolis Everywhere (Pedo Bait)

Just wanted to say that the "Corrupted" song is just so FIRE!!! Every time it comes on, I start vibin'. Makes me feel bad when I kill them tho cuz I love their soundtrack
I believe for non essential mission maps, you can set the soundtrack to whatever song you want. One of them being the Corrupted.
I finished 3H 2 weeks ago. At the end I just skipped the calends social nonsense it was too much . I’m liking this one so far
To anyone who are still considering whether to get Engage or not, coming from someone who played all games from FE6 onwards (most on maddening/lunatic), Engage has the greatest gameplay and it's a must-have if you're a SRPG fan.
pretty much, its a hold over game with easier gameplay, its gonna get praise just by that unfortunately, its a game to skip especially if u already played 3H cause if u want a easy game to "start with" any of the new stuff is, which is part of the problem
its just a mid game thats easy
@@marcusclark1339 Not sure where you're getting the idea that Engage is easy. It has way better combat system compared to 3H and far more depth for strategic plays, and by no means that imply that the game is easy.
I'm loving the game. My biggest criticism though, is the writing feels more juvenile than 3H. There seems to be too many anime tropes, that they seemed to be steering away from in 3H.
Fire Emblem games on the 3DS were amazing but then Three house was beyong garbage so i really hesitate to buy this one :S
if you liked conquest you'll like this game a lot!
Yeah I'm loving it about 8 hours in. Classic mode is the way to go.
I wonder if Essence knows you can just rewind the turn so you don't have to restart every time you commit a mistake haha
I saw a review say the game was too easy and they were playing normal mode + casual 🤣🤣🤣🤣

And the emblem conversations are terrible lol
Now triangle strategy, THAT was a complete package.
Triangle Strategy was my 2021 game of the year.
Of course it is. Pick up a play. Lots to work out though
I recommend you playing three houses
3 houses Was good but tiring social so not a good jumping in point.. I dropped it

Sure, but just because it’s predictable doesn’t mean it’s bad, especially when you got gameplay like this
Engage story won’t even reach top 5
Hands down the best fire emblem game of all time, these critics and reviewers have no clue what they are talking about clearly
If it has the best gameplay, then it's the best one.
Yo the animations in this game are sick
TI mean yeah, the story is paper thin; but the game plays so well that I honestly don't care!
Would you suggest this game or the three of houses game for a new player? I've not played any of the games but I'm interested
Honestly I would say either of the two games are great. I have well over 150 hours on Three Houses, and already at 35 hours on Engage. Engage is definitely a lot smoother and prettier to look at imo though.
