    Installed it myself without any issues. The wifi signal is great even th-cam.com/users/postUgkxE_D_sddGAdiVUKp7PkkmyxO7bRtgqmk5 when the router is located far away. I really enjoy the night vision feature that allows me to see clearly any activity near our house (mostly cars and wild animals). The motion detection is helpful to me as well to monitor what happens on our front.

    A company that livestreams pickleball matches uses these. They have overheating issues when they are outside on hot days, even if in the shade. But, I imagine most people will use this indoors.

    • @UCMadScientist
      @UCMadScientist  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess they aren't exactly designed for airflow and the dark colour of the casing would absorb alot of sunlight.
      if the sensor inside is large (I never took it apart, and I had to give it back) it could generate a fair bit of heat.
      (My SLR overheats as its been firmware hacked to run longer than its supposed to.. hence the issue in my headset shootout)

    Could you repost the raw footage clips you made? The links in the description don't lead anywhere. And even when I searched the archives on that site it brought me to and found the article, the links there also didn't work. I would really like to see the footage of this camera, as I am considering purchasing it. Thanks.

      I don't work at that particular office anymore, but I'm pretty sure that was one of the older Condeco units.
      There are a fair few available these days from brands like Crestron, Joan, and others.
      They are known as meeting booking panels.
      Some also support detection to see if the room is actually in use. Swipe card booking/attendance
      Auto unbooking if no one uses the room
      Some wicked reporting to to see if the boardroom keeps getting used for 2 person meetings etc
      Microsoft Also have a line specifically for Teams, known as Teams Room Panels.

    So am I right to say this can be used as a conference cam/web cam through Skype like any other camera but with better quality?

      Yes, it a standard USB camera using the UVC video standard.
      You are still going to be limited by whatever platforms compression. But the optics and image on this are much better (and I miss my loan unit immensely)

    We are looking to deploy this in one of our VIP main boardrooms. Can we connect it directly to a laptop? Basically our setup has all the cables running from the TV to the meeting table connected to a universal docking station that a user needs to plugin to their machine to get connected to TV and mic/speaker!
    Do you recommend this camera?
    I

    • @UCMadScientist
      @UCMadScientist  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you were to get the Rally by itself, yes this should be fine. (there is a full kit as well that includes mics, NUC etc)
      You will likely still need the power injector box unless the docking station provides 100W PD over its USB ports (unlikely)
      Keep in mind, the Rally Camera doesn't have a microphone (The Rally Kit does). So you will need either a speakerphone attached to the dock as well or Roof Mics/Speakers into a DSP connected to the dock.
      The only other thing to really keep in mind is that whatever software your using (Teams/Zoom/Webex etc) will still see the internal camera/mic/speakers on the laptop so will be the responsibility of whoever is using the laptop to switch cameras/mic/speakers in the software accordingly.
      This is one of the reasons why I use dedicated room systems, as C-Levels typically just want to press a button and have their meeting.

    • @JamesPhillipsOfficial
      @JamesPhillipsOfficial 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@UCMadScientist internal camera/mic/speaker can be disabled in device management, what this does is forces a laptop to recognise and use externals by default, i didn't know this either but just thought i'd share.. Otherwise a laptop will always default to inbuilt mic/webcam which is undesireable when attempting to boost the quality

    • @UCMadScientist
      @UCMadScientist  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      With the power injector, no problem.
      If you connect it straight to a laptop, your laptop will need to provide a ton of power to it which might be out of your USB ports spec.

      Depends on the software that your using, the camera supports standard PTZ commands
      So if your software supports that, then yes.
      Also autoframing is supported if your meeting software supports this.

      The unit as tested didn't have auto framing at the time. Usually its done by the client itself (such as Teams)

      @neoklis-9484 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For more Professional Setup you could always use Shure MXA microphones, accompanied from a Shure P300 DSP. Really clever kit that can take this camera to Cisco levels. :)

      Use XLR mic, mic stand, XLR cable into audio interface like Focusrite, into Laptop/PC. I do this and gives you a serious audio quality boost, your basically converting XLR into USB so it's more compatible with PC and programs like Skype

  • @VPWedding
    @VPWedding 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    For a $1200 camera, the picture quality is quite disappointing. It's foggy, obvious compression artifacts viewed at 1080p, and autofocus hunting all over. You could put a $200 camcorder on a $120 pan-tilt head and get this.

    • @UCMadScientist
      @UCMadScientist  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately, this is the case with ALOT of meeting room/USB Web cameras.
      I had actually started doing a piece on why most cameras suck, and then LTT came out with their video so it seemed a bit redundant. I may still finish that when my sony sensors turn up.
      Keep in mind too, my footage was compressed heavily. And knowing what I know these days, capturing the footage using the Windows inbuilt capture tool was less than ideal as it tries to take control of PTX/Focus.
      Next time, I'll capture using OBS.
      Even with a 4K Video camera these days, I find I still get better shots on my old Nikon D3100 purely because of better glass.
      Thanks for your feedback though!

    • @2L40K
      @2L40K 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@UCMadScientist But that's not correct. LTT talks about small sensor webcams. The sensor here is not big, but is not as small as in most webcams. If we believe Logitech (because they happen to do false advertisement not once, but many times) the sensor size is around 1/2" size, or 6.5 mm x 3.6 mm, or 8.5 mm diagonally. You can not get this directly, but they provide a focal length and a field of view. And from here it's calculated easily.
      The other thing is, that the optical zoom is only 4.8x, and the other up to 15x is digital. So, if you zoom past 4.8x the quality will start to drop. And this can be seen in your footage.
      Next thing is, that this camera does not output RAW footage over USB 3, but instead uses H.264 compression. So, even the "uncompressed" footage is actually compressed.
      Also the codec used is the H.264/SVC (Scalable Video Coding), NOT the H.264/AVC (Advanced Video Coding). Depending on the condition of the USB connection it can lower Resolution, Quality and Framerate. If you, for some reason, do not have enough bandwidth it probably will continue working, but with rather low Resolution, Quality or Framerate.
      You see, this is one more path where the low quality may come from.
