I am no pro but I think for your photo doc the middle picture being coloured instead of b/w breaks up the continuity of the story. it almost looks like the 1st and 3rd are a different project than the 2nd. Just a novice pov, ofc, we never know what the interviewer thought. Though it makes sense as you said ki they wanted an artistic point of view, I wish they would give some critique from a technical standpoint as well. That would help students hone their skills even if they were into commercial photography and not artistic and understand why they didn't get selected instead of leaving them to speculate blindly
