Bali travel series - part 1 - North Bali
We went on a tour of North Bali and these are the locations we visited.
1. Handara gate: It is one of the most iconic Instagram spots in Bali. It is actually the entrance to a golf resort. The beautiful gate surrounded by lush green lawns make for the perfect picture. But go there early or you may have to queue up for pics. By 7:00 am, we saw buses of people coming by.
2. Ulun Danu Beratan Temple: It is one of the icons of the island of Bali, and is features on the IDR 50,000 bill. The setting of the Pura Ulun Danu Beratan is stunning with the lake surrounding the temple, the mountains behind, and the golden sunrays lighting up the classic Balinese shrine.
It is a really old temple built in the 1600s and the three shrines here are dedicated to Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.
3. Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfall: We stumbled upon this beautiful waterfall. This one is a hidden gem that people don’t really know about. The waterfall looks like it is set in a fairy tale. It was so dreamy! And the best thing is you get to visit 4 waterfalls here for the price of 1.
4. Banyumala Twin Waterfall: This one is one of the more popular waterfalls in Bali. By the time we reached here (11 am), there were quite a few people here already taking pictures, swimming and relaxing. The hike here is more challenging than at Banyu Wana Amertha.
I have shared some tips in the video as well in terms of how you can plan for North Bali.
One place we skipped: Lempuyang temple. We think that the gate of heaven is overrated and we wouldn’t spend 2 hours waiting for a picture in any situation.
