This was exactly the kind of video I have been looking for amidst all the booktube advice videos. I've wanted to make a channel for so long but the amount of investment most people described always made it feel overwhelming! Thanks for emphasizing that our relationship with the platform is completely up to us!
@@HeyItsShey if you can believe it, I pulled out my camera and recorded my first two videos right after leaving this comment. I was on here replying to the nicest welcome comments on my newbie video when I got the notification of your response. I so appreciate you for being the final push I needed to join! 💕
Absolutely loved this video!! I love your point about how small the booktube community is, it’s so accessible and interacting w the community is definitely the big reason I started on booktube
This video should automatically appear at the top of every new booktubers subscription feed or homepage as soon as they upload the BookTube Newbie Tag. Its excellent
This is such a great video. The concept of it being okay to invest in your hobbies hit home for me. If you can invest and want to then you should invest because it's okay to enjoy your hobbies and spend on them. I had this very thought when I started my channel a month ago and I decided to invest because honestly it made me happy and excited, it's okay to be excited. The comparison thing is also important for me because sometimes I feel like we try our best not to be seen as human, but comparison comes to us in daily life so of course it will translate to TH-cam. I've found that being aware and stepping away is helpful. This is such a great video.
I'm so glad I watched this video, it made me feel a lot better about how I am (or was(?)) approaching the platform. I have to keep reminding myself that it's ok that I don't do what a lot of the booktube standards are (thumbnails, TBRs, all that stuff) and I'm just existing to chat about what I like regarding books! Lovely video as always! 💕
I totally agree with this allowing yourself to invest in your hobby! I am really lucky that my husband has a mac so I use the free editing software on there. I HATE twitter so Im not gonna do it. Urgh the comparison thing is terrible!! I downloaded this plug in that meant I could like see people views etc compared to mine and I got far too obsessed with it!
It was really interesting to listen to your experience. I also don't like to spend much time on thumbnails and recently found out I also don't like my face on the thumbnail. I always feel ridiculous so I am going to stop doing that even though I heard that attracts more viewers XD In my case, the hobby I like to spend money on is painting so I film on my phone and don't prioritize making videos so much that I need to invest in it, but I do understand your point. I use tags on the videos, but I have no idea how they work on youtube ahahah I feel like they don't do much. You look so comfortable in front of the camera that I was surprised to find that you haven't been doing this for years XD The scheduling advice is so useful!!! I do film, edit and upload within 3 days maximum and I need to get better at juggling all of the things that go into uploading videos. Making videos made me realize how anxious I actually am and that I am better at expressing myself through writing so maybe I should start scripting videos ahah I stutter a lot and I have to stop to try to remember what I was going to say next. (Nothing to do with anything, but I love the earrings)
If you're experiencing deja vu, that's because I accidentally published this a few weeks ago. Here's the final version!
I'll follow your process and growth, cheering you on. Another valuable video.
I love this idea of you deciding your rules for engaging on this platform. That’s so true. Not every hobby needs to be monetized.
hustle culture is a trap!!
I’ve been making videos since 2015 and *this* is the video I didn’t know I needed years ago! Saving this to rewatch regularly!
I'm glad it was helpful!
I loved this video, especially as someone who is thinking about starting a book tube channel! Thank you so much!
Glad it helped!

Absolutely, comparison is a natural human tendency!

I'm so glad! For me, it's journey of navigating comparison with others and giving myself grace.

I had one of those plugs too and had to delete it after a week 💀
