They would take their radio with them in case they got a call, but would be doing activities they shouldn't be doing . The policemen didn't want you to know that they were over their mistresses house, at the store shopping, etc while they were on duty. PPD has absolutely been cleaning up the city. I don't know where they're putting the homeless, drug addicted and mentally ill, but they're gone. Somerset and K and A still has a trickle of folks on it, but for the most part, the streets are getting cleaned up. I was shocked that it only took the cops 10 minutes to get there....the new mayor and commissioner need to be commended for this.
