Permaculture Garden Tour & Planting Plan - Self Sufficient Living UK

- Join us for a FULL TOUR of our PERMACULTURE GARDENS - What crops we are harvesting and growing in early Spring and our planting plan for the season ahead. Self sufficient living saves us a LOT of MONEY, which gives us a non financial security and rewards us with the irreplaceable gift of TIME and FREEDOM 💚
We are Dan & Laurie and our land is called Freedom Forest - Its 3 acres in the South of England where we are creating an edible oasis and trying to provide as much for ourselves, from our land as possible, where we are completely off grid.
Our food growing journey began together in 2017 when we created our first No dig lasagne bed. Every year we grow more and more and now we are currently around 60-80% self sufficient in our food needs.
Our style and methods are inspired by permaculture and we try to be thoughtful about how and what we do, to be as gentle on the planet as possible.
We are MASSIVELY grateful that you choose to watch our Videos and support us in this way, however, If you appreciate and get value from what we share and would like to help us a little more, you can become a Freedom Forest Patreon (link below).
It takes us about a day to film some video and another few evenings to edit it, Patreon provides a way you can support what we do with any size donation you wish, it could simply be the value of a packet of seeds! We have many projects coming up, as well as wanting to improve our videos with better camera equipment... maybe even a drone one day to make our videos even more detailed and better quality for you to enjoy! You can help make it viable for us to keep putting the time into making these videos by becoming a Patreon. In return your name will appear in the end credits of our videos and we'll message you a password for the 'members area' of our website where we share more of our favourite recipes exclusively for our Patreon's 💚

This is so interesting because here in Florida zone 9 April is really late for sowing veg. We are very limited to tropical plants here shortly. Our days are already in the 80's Fahrenheit most days
Hi, So glad you enjoyed our vid - nature is super interesting 💚 We are zone 9a, so not that different, the zones relate to your lowest temp I believe, so at that end we will be quite similar - wish we had your upper end though, then we could grow some really cool tropical stuff 😁🙌🥭 Thanks watching and commenting 🙏✌️🌿
Looks so nice! I'm halfway up in Finland and we didn't get any reasonable spring before mid May, and then we suddenly got 27°C 😅. So practically nothing grew outside beginning of May. Spring is the season I most am considering moving south 😂...
Hi Eva, we have just starting learning a little about the Finnish climate, via one of our favourite youtube channels Mossy Bottom - I can see it could be a very challenging climate for gardening! I hope the rest of the season is better for you 🤞 Thanks so much for watching and commenting 🙏 We have a new tour video of our Food Forest out on Sunday, which you may enjoy too 💚✌️🌿
Excellent 🎉🎉🎉
I subscribed to your channel 😀🙏

Beautiful work! Stoked to have found your channel it’s a dream of mine to work if some gardens in the UK, I’m from the states here in Florida and I grow a lot of perennials influenced by agroforestry/food forest principles as well as permaculture and make videos about my experiences.

You might enjoy checking out some of our Food Forest Vids too - Very different sytle to the food forest you can grow, exciting working with different conditions 👉 th-cam.com/play/PLOidPRQofoMO0DE7TSR7WXi14EsPi8Fd_.html&si=nLZARs7pgueLLKot

HI - Glad you found us 💚 Will check out your vids too - just had a quick scan and will be watching your firewood plantation one for sure - this is something keen to put into place here with Euc's - which interesting grow fine for us here .. my partner often starts them from seed or we grow on from small plugs, have lots on the property already now for various purposes - Happy watching, have a great season too and thanks for Sub 🙏✌️🌿

Thank you 🙏 Glad you enjoyd the tour, thank you for watching and commenting too 🙌 hope you have a great growing season ahead. ✌️🌿
What a lovely great garden/allotment/food forest kind of thing you guys got going on !
Any perennial veg….?
like Asturian tree cabbage and cottagers/daubenton kale?
Globe artichokes, Jerusalem artichokes, perennial onions like walking onions and chives, wild garlic, saffron crocus?
I’d personally rip out that laurel hedge as minimal as environmental benefit
- replace with native or non-native edible hedging like sloe berries, quince, hazel, crab apples,
Hey Jack, thanks for watching - Yeah we have HEAPS of perennials too 🙌 I think we showed the JA bed in this vid, have chives, Taunton Deane Kale, Yacon, OMG lots in our Food Forest, I'm currently making an inventory actually and will share more in our next Food Forest Tour vid as been adding LOTS of new plants over winter - Check out some of our past F.Forest tours for a look 💚 👉 th-cam.com/play/PLOidPRQofoMO0DE7TSR7WXi14EsPi8Fd_.html
Ha - we do have quite a few other wild/edible/native hedges on the property also - the Laurel is there for a very good reason ... mainly screening/privacy (hence dense evergreen needed) and tbh honest the wildlife LOVE it ... way more then people seem to think 💚✌️🌿
A hanging shelf can help with rodent attack ?,I keep my seedlings indoors in propagators and I manage my garden from there👍
We need some 🌞 Portugal 🇵🇹 😫
I know! Sunlight hours have been so low ... The plants don't seem too phased by it ... yet... it has been sooo wet since the middle of last summer! Hopefully it won't be followed by drought 🤞 Thanks for watching 💚✌️🌿

Really enjoyed your tour. It must be amazing to have so much space to grow. Can I ask where you source your Taro from? I would love to try growing some.
Hi Daina, So glad you enjoyed the tour 🙏 We went to asian/world food stores and bought as many different varieties of Taro as we could find. Dan also spoke to people in there and found out where each variety came from and got any info he could.. The ones we have overwintered should give us a great headstart this year, its going to be fun to compare this years harvest 💚 We have another video about the Taro you might like 👉 th-cam.com/video/jzk2zs5DvTc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=CMdyrt2FAHnExy1i
Thanks for watching ✌️🌿
@freedomforestlife Thanks! I'll check out the video and give it a go this season. I'm looking forward to seeing how yours turns out.
Loved the tour. Everything is looking really good. Its reassuring to see what you're growing and that for the most part, I'm not too far behind. ✌️🌿
Good on you Lynne ... It feels like we've JUST got to where we need to be ... just in time, as always, I am sure the weeds and seeds will be hot on our heels though and will continue to keep us busy 🤣✌️🌿
I wish you'd have picked a Leek! Picking prn lol
🤣 I'll remember this next time!! ✌️🌿
What sweet potato's do you grow please? Im in manchester UK and would love to give that a go!
Hi, the best outdoor variety we have found for the UK is called t65, check out this playlist here for more on how we grow them 👉 th-cam.com/play/PLOidPRQofoMMQnV_40S6dUq7nxtcMY5w9.html&si=QLZEEBtzzKRapV3n
Thanks for watching 💚✌️🌿
Also, do you have a drone for drone shots? I have one if you'd like a go... I'm Southampton/Basingstoke based
Thanks - thats really kind. We don't have a drone yet, but my Nephew has just moved home from overseas and I think he has one, so will hopefully get some footage soon 💚
Jerusalem artichokes are an amazing propagator, I quadrupled my crop 👍
Happy spring beautiful. Very very wet here in Wales. I've just eaten my first harvest of nine star broccoli. Yummy. Living our best lives ❤️
Hey Karen, Yeahhh loving the 9 star broc 🙌🥦 good on you 💚 OMG the rain and wind seems relentless atm!!! At least things are warming up though and Spring growth in still happening - Love it 🌸 Thanks for watching and for your lovely comments 🙏✌️🌿
