I saw it yesterday and it is as great as people say. It is absolutely current and Rock should have been at least nominated for the Oscar without doubt. It sucks that at the time, it didn't get the recognition it deserved but I'm glad it has it now.
Even though Seconds bombed at the box office, IMO this was Rock Hudson's most powerful performance. During the scene when Hudson breaks down at the party, some people who were there later stated that he wasn't acting; the emotions Hudson displayed in that scene were genuine. It's almost as if Hudson became the role he was playing. IMO, he should have received an Oscar for his performance.
Such a fascinating and insanely f**king brilliant film...I just finished watching it a few minutes ago. Rock Hudson's unforgettable--and criminally underrated, I may add--performance as the recycled cadaver Tony Wilson was perhaps one of the greatest of his career. And John Frankenheimer's moody direction was absolutely perfect, along with James Wong Howe's astonishing black and white cinematography.
Couldn't agree more. I was watching an interview with Alec Baldwin at Cambridge University and he recommended the students watch Seconds. I'm glad that all these years later it's still getting recognition. Hudson was phenomenal
In the end, Rock is really trying to escape the gurney... He broke 3 straps during filming...Frankenheimer said he was so strong, he had to hire two pro football players to play the attendants who are holding him down.

@@EmilyHartley25989 I think the similarity is that the main character gets it in the end..and in both films, the main character is essentially a good person, they're both aware their death is imminent and are surrounded by people who know it and take part in it. Their screams are ignored and the worse part is they're powerless to stop it...I also think any film that ends with evil being triumphant is also a blow to the audience. I was 10 when my parents took me to see a movie called Burnt Offerings, and the ending was a double shock for me because it was the first time I had seen a story where goodness didn't prevail, I never knew some tales ended that way at the time, and it really threw me.

I will be learning from this film for a while. Artistically, intellectually, and philosophically moving. Fun fact: The Beach Boys member Brian Wilson saw the film in theaters, then it frightened him and he later cancelled the Smile album. He didn’t go into any movie theater again until ET: The Extra Terrestrial (1982).
Brilliant movie, certainly not a rom-com from Mr Hudson, lol. Saw it for the first time recently, got the Masters of Cinema blu-ray release from 2015. The cinematography was superb, really creepy, claustraphobic atmosphere. The ending was not what i was expecting. Cult Classic.

Just making me wish CHUCK NORRIS can star in some Theatre of the Absurd production, you know, what with STEVEN SEAGEL making a killer cameo in Machete. This is the type of movie where you can expect someone to commit a crime after getting obsessed over it. You have better believe this.

did you see this film on BBBC2 late night this film is rarely shown on tv one of the sky channels it was shown about 9 or ten years ago i saw this the first time in 1978 and what a truly shocking film with dark under tones the music and opening titles the photography , however in 1982 4 years later i now had a video remember them and watched it again taped the film had lost none of its menace

It scared me bad and gave me a sense of dread. It’s sheer horror! The film is a warning that you should live your life to the fullest ,if you can, because there’s no tomorrow.

Single people didn't exist for upper mobility in a company and you could be fired for divorcing, so husbands took pride in their marriages even if they weren't perfect. If you wanted to escape, that was a different matter. You went to see your priest, rabbi, or psychiatrist. My parents chose the latter. There was also the booze that was socially acceptable for both parties in a marriage. This is before the counter culture revolution of the late 1960's would change this happy view of the 1950's forever. So various strategies emerged from scifi novelists like this one, similar to Serling's episode called Willoughby from Twilight Zone. Both had unintended consequences.

Pretty shocking for ROCK HUDSON fans. I always thought it was a teriffic movie, but audiences only wanted to see him in Doris Day movies. Even with this movie, he wasn't allowed to do and be who he was.
These days it would be transferring his consciousness into a younger (and very very expensive Synthetic). The end would have his "mind" sucked out gradually & terrifyingly to be replaced with another Reborn's. And it's my concept and I want credits and $100k for its use Mr Clooney (or anyone else).
