I heard this song for the first time in Dubrovnik, Croatia in 2011. when it was played by three street musicians dressed in medieval clothing. I have tried to find this many times during the last 8 years by searching ''Ave Maria''. Now I've finally succeeded.
Exactly! I even have a recording of those three musicians somewhere. I particularly remember the one that was then performing a solo on glass bottles filled with water :-) I think theirs was the best performance of this song I ever heard.
You should listen to other versions of this song as this is more of a contemporary interpretation. The ones by Jordi Savall and Philip Picket are the best I think.
@@davidus9702 I listen to Gregorian Chant in the early mornings when I exercise/weight lift. Its actually very beneficial. I find my movement with the weights is very slow and more methodical. I am NO gym and physical fitness expert, but I seem to experience greater benefit than if I had popular rock or metal music playing. I do agree with you. Peace be with you
Wonderful! It was love at first sight with this song and it's my favourite one from "An Ancient Story" (also, I was quite surprised by John's voice here). I missed the song greatly in your Early Music concerts, but was very happy about the new songs that will hopefully soon be available on CD as well. :-)

I'm a pagan and not about to be converted. But if anything makes me have respect for christendom it is the great music . This has far more chance of converting me than any bullshit rhetoric they will give. I like it's beauty regardless
Religion is an expression of the hight of human emotion; of hope, desire and transcendence. Its power leads to ecstatis - hence its beauty - and it also leads to desires so strong they warrant (in the human mind) horrible sacrifices - hence the bloodshed. It's the peak of the human's mind powers of creation hence naught can stand in it's way - something intangible and grander beyond all worldly things will always make you love, hate, desire, reject. It is because it takes as many forms as there are people in the world. And at the hight of our emotions and beliefs, we are capable to show the deepest sides of our humanity - in love and hate alike. If anything, religion is the peak of human nature.

Most of these songs were pilgrim songs. So not in churches but on the road.
