    13:31 UPDATE there's a fix for screen flicker: mysupport.razer.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9748 I have confirmed this resolved the issue for us.
    6:40 I said 4 and a half hours battery life, that is correct, the graph is incorrect, which I also used to base the percentages on, which are also incorrect. I have updated the graph for future videos, however the value should be 273 mins. So it's actually 16% more battery life from a 12% larger battery vs last year's Blade 17, still an improvement, but no where near as much as I said based on the incorrect graph.
    Advanced Optimus might disappear after updating the Nvidia drivers, you can fix that here: jarrods.tech/how-to-fix-razer-blade-18-missing-advanced-optimus/

      Hey @Jarrod'sTech can you make a review of g18 4080, which is really popular at this moment or aw m16? I guess lot of ppl that want to make a purchase now is torn between those 2 :) I am leaning to the g18 but im afraid of coil while that lot of ppl are reporting and gpu temps are hot, I would like if you could check that for us? Is it just few bad examples or a standard?

    The smaller form factor of a laptop was the one that caught my eye, but after seeing the posts on how powerful the Blade 18 can go (Rivals or Beats an RTX 3090/i9 12900k from some posts I've seen), I'm excited for the bigger machines. What's really nice is how much they improved over the previous generations, the battery level cap, actual CPU overclocking, bright displays, and I'm pretty sure what's left is just to improve battery consumption. I've read that Windows has an issue with swapping to E-Cores, causing massive battery drain.

    • @HDRPC
      @HDRPC ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes but main reason is their node 10nm so huge power consumption in single core tasks or light tasks.

      I have never imagined this.
      Now intel has new type of cores which can act as both performance cores and efficient cores. Example:- if your cpu has 24 cores so on light tasks it will work as efficiency cores for better battery and when huge performance needed it will act as P cores.
      So need of Efficiency cores.

      @@FesterSilentlyI hate numpads so much that I'll never buy a laptop that has one, like ever. The numpad on laptops is often right next to the enter key, and that makes it hard to know where the enter key and arrow keys are without looking down at the keyboard. (Unlike on desktop keyboards, the is no space separating the numpad from the normal keys.) Also, on laptops with a numpad, the touchpad is shifted to the left, and that makes using that ''lap''top on your lap feel awkward.
      A bigger laptop to me means a bigger/a more immersive screen.

    Great review! I knew you'd come around to the bigger is better idea! Really, the Blade 16 and 18 are still more portable than any of the competitors at the same TDP, especially when factoring in their small laptop size--that's why I'm glad they them thicker this year, thick enough to really be in the same high performance space vs other notebooks. Though they still aren't as powerful as the highest end laptops for sure--at least they aren't massively slower now, so the trade off for better portability is worth it for someone like me.

      I suspect that Intel told their OEMs that the latest chip will run hot and need a larger bulkier chassis to work as intended. Hence the wholesale move to an 18-inch display to accommodate the cooling needed. That does mean prices rise even further than inflationary pressures.

    • @klaidasrunele
      @klaidasrunele ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @andyH_England The move to 18 inch screens is for the 16:10 aspect ratio, literally almost nothing to do with cooling as GPU power limits have not been increased compared to last year.

    Hey Jarrod, thanks for testing the laptop with Ubuntu. I bought the same spec Blade four days ago and after hours of trying to fix the speakers issue, I couldn't (although I'm experienced in Linux OS). Most probably, the processor is pretty new, the drivers don't seem to be supporting the new generation yet. Having used it as a daily driver for my software development setup, migrating from a well-speced MacBook Pro feels like some sacrifice on screen resolution, but nothing else beats it in terms of performance. For my developer usage based on tools like VS Code, IntelliJ IDEA, terminal emulators and many Chrome processes, the battery lasted more than two hours with relatively moderate brightness. I, personally, do not intend to use it for gaming, but rather for my professional work. An RTX 4080 easily allows me to plug three 4K displays (120Hz, 60Hz, 60Hz), plus the laptop screen, and they all work well. The headphone jack works though, and also a Bluetooth earbud. Would recommend developer folks like me. As an additional suggestion, instead of carrying that small-but-still-big charger, get a USB-C charger from Razer and a Thunderbolt 4 dock for a full-fledged setup.

    The max battery charge limit is essential on a laptop like this which essentially acts as a desktop replacement. I had used my 2017 blade pro for work during the pandemic and burned through 2 batteries (the original, and a replacement) due to having it plugged in for practically 16+ hours a day for both work and gaming. I ended up building a desktop for work after getting the third battery just to save it from the same fate.
    Sitting at 95-100% charge and constantly charging is a death sentence for these high voltage, high capacity batteries.

    do you think it would help gaming 1% lows and overall gaming performance to simply disable half of the cores/hyperthreading so it doesn't have to spread the available power to too many cores and to help thermals, or would it hurt more than it helps?

    The 18" nowadays is basically the 17" from several years back, when they had significantly bigger bezels. I know I have on my ASUS V752VM from 2016. 17" screen, but I bet that the laptop size is about the same as this 18", as the bezels seem huge (not a problem for me though, but it does show its age). I don't think it needs specialized bags, the one meant to carry 17" laptops should fit this fine.
    And just 4 kg with the charger included is pretty good for a big laptop like this. You can see the "blade" in the name with this.

      You do know you can't play games on the move, right!? The performance is reduced drastically, and you can use a gaming laptop ONLY plugged in, like a desktop. A 10 liter mITX case like formd T1 is as portable as a 17" gaming laptop. To carry around a 17" laptop you need a large backpack, i know because i have one. I wasn't aware of the mITX scene when i purchased the laptop. But alas, is too late now, so i know for future.
      If you need to use a laptop while moving, an actual portable device, get a 14" ultrabook (or any of those slim ones that clearly are not for gaming) and they will last you many hours to do blog, vlog, and other work related stuff.

    I’m currently waiting for my Asus Scar 16, but I’m thinking about canceling the preorder, because of the coil whine issues. I don’t know what to do. Did you had any issues with the new Asus laptop(s)?

    I wish they plumbed the Thunderbolt port to the iGPU not the dGPU for displayport.
    This would allow for running 7 external monitors using only cheap 3 way MST adapters.
    When using an eGPU the iGPU wouldn't be responsible for running any external monitors but the dGPU could run 4.
    I also wish that they sold the grey model with to spec and had an option for bo ram so that I can add a 96GB kit without having 32GB or 64GB that I need to resell.
