As a fan of the show, I've watched the whole set. As far as Mill Creek's product here, there's some issues. There's a few episodes where isolated scenes have no color or lighting composition at all, a bit of a jarring omission occasionally. Audio levels are not always consistent, which is a problem with a lot of TV show sets. Just received the German 2019 version on the Koch label, and the quality looks great on every episode! You only have to click on the 'audio' button on your remote to get the original English. Also, it's 'region B' (PAL), so you need a multi-region blu ray player. A multi-region player is a good idea to have anyway, as many blu ray movies (on BFI, Eureka, Kino, Arrow, etc.) are of great quality, yet half, or even a third, of the cost of movie on the Criterion label. So, if you get a multi-region player, it will pay for itself with the money you save on many 'region B' blu ray movies and TV shows, documentaries, etc.
I would like to see a more in-depth comparison. I have the German one myself. I will say the first episode looks much better than the Mill Creek screenshots that I have seen. However, there are fewer discs in the german version. Because of this after the first couple of seasons, it uses lossy DTS audio and the later seasons have a lower bit rate compared to the earlier seasons. It sounds like it's the opposite with the Mill Creek version from what I have read the Mill Creek version starts off with lower quality and progressively gets better.

I can't link to a comment, but I can copy it here. Aleksandr Orlov commented: "The King of Queens has been on Blu-ray in Germany for years. Originally Season 1 was 4x3 upscaled, then a few years ago they got their hands on HD masters for all of Season One and re-released the complete series set as well as Season one seperately. Every episode of Season 1 is from a proper HD transfer on that set, so the situation here with the Mill Creek set is incredibly odd. So yes, a 4K release is unlikely, but the proper HD masters for this show already exist and have for years. Inner Tube is also uncut and HD on the German set, however unfortunately Seasons 2 and 3 are 1080i 29.970fps on that set, and Seasons 4-9 are 1080p and the correct framerate, however they have an incorrect pitch. So after watching your video, I will pick up this set, but I will also be re-buying the Season 1 German Blu-ray which I recently sold in anticipation of this set. That set is perfect, every episode is 1080p real HD, has DTS 2.0 English audio and it looks flawless. It's a shame I originally sold it but I'm grateful it's out there. I will pick up the Mill Creek set in hopes that the episodes don't have the pitch issue. If anyone could compile a list of the episodes from Seasons 2-9 that are upscaled, that would be greatly appreciated so I can re-buy the seasons that are affected too. Also on another note, the entire series is streaming on Amazon Germany in full HD, no upscaled episodes -- and it is also available on Amazon Video UK for purchase."
I disagree that this is going to be the "best ever". "King of Queens" was shot on film (at least for the first seven seasons), so it can look A LOT better. And this continues to be a popular show in syndication. So, as 4K because the norm, they will create 4K masters for syndication (and streaming) which will probably eventually make their way to some home format. Now, that may be in five years, maybe even ten, but it will happen. So, if you don't wanna wait, this is your best option. But both of those transfers look terrible.
@@CerealAtMidnight Agreed. I'm just tired of people saying this or that will never get released or upgraded. Because the opposite always proves to be true.
The opposite always proves to be true? I don't want to turn this into a big debate, because we may simply have different opinions, which is absolutely fine. One of our frequent talking points is "be patient, it all comes back around." Cereal At Midnight is all about looking at the glass as half full and realizing how blessed we are as fans of media and pop culture, but it's a fact that 90 percent of the titles that were released on DVD still have not made it to Blu-ray. Many shows from the classic era still haven't even been scanned in high definition, let alone 4K. It says something when we're just now getting King of Queens on Blu-ray 17 years after the format first launched. I wouldn't bet on Sony doing 4K scans of this show. I hope I'm wrong, though.
@@CerealAtMidnight Right now, 4K adoption is still a bit below 50%. When you see it reaching the 70% range, which could happen by next year, you'll see studios devoting more money to remastering. Starting, of course, with their big earners.
I've noticed that most older tv shows don't translate well to Blu-ray. They usually just upscale dvd version. Rarely do they use HD remaster to create the Bluray sets.
I wouldn't try to talk you out of your opinion, but I've had a very opposite experience, and many of my favorite shows have fantastic HD/Blu-ray presentations, many of which came from Mill Creek Entertainment. Knight Rider, Airwolf, Miami Vice, Charlie's Angels, The Rockford Files, not to mention other distributor's shows like Star Trek (the original), Twilight Zone, the Dick Van Dyke Show, Lost in Space, and Batman (1966) sports one of the best restorations I've ever seen. That show got brought back to life, and looks like it was shot yesterday.
It really depends on the show. Shows that didn't have any special effects can and often are given the full Blu-Ray treatment. But for shows that have a lot of digital special effects, then it may be cost-prohibitive to do a true HD remaster or it might even be downright impossible as the effects files might not be usable in a newer version of the software - or the software might not even be available for newer operating systems. Sure, the studio might be able to recreate the effects with other applications, but it may be rather cost-prohibitive, especially if they can't guarantee enough sales to justify the cost of recreating all of the special effects. Also, it depends on how well the film has survived. A great example here is MacGyver. I don't know about the other seasons since they haven't made it to Blu-Ray yet - Koch media is still working on it - but the first season Blu-Rays of MacGyver have some upscaled SD bits in at least some of the episodes. Don't get me wrong - it's mostly HD, but there is the odd HD scene here and there.
The studios are so afraid of offering content in original aspect ratio. They think they'll loose a couple of stock points of we ever see a glimpse of a black bar Back in the day, they did Pan&Scan to put movie in 1.33:1 (4x3). Now they do the same with ratios like 2.35:1 to put them in 1.78:1 (16x9) Most people don't care about the black bars. Heck, most people don't realise they're there until you point it out to them
I actually went on kind of a tangent about it in the video shoot and ended up cutting it because it was too off topic. I still occasionally see comments from people who don't seem to realize how aspect ratio works. People say things like "no widescreen no sale" when talking about full-frame shows. It's disturbing that this mindset still exists this deep into the current home media era. I think the companies fear the younger viewers, who did not grow up in a world with black bars on the sides of their screen and seem to think there's something wrong with the image. But that just means there's a responsibility by those studios to preserve and educate. This issue and the motion smoothing feature on modern HDTVs are the bane of a home media enthusiast, as ignorance seems to rear its head far too often.
@@CerealAtMidnight i saw a guy, not too long ago on the Monty Python blu-ray discussion forum, who stretches his picture. So when he watch a 4x3 image, he makes it fit to his 16x9 tv. That was really weird But those, and ones you're talking about, i feel they are the vocal minority. I really think most people don't even care
@@CerealAtMidnight Its kinda funny because I remember back when DVD was a new format (wow I sound old lol) people around me would complain about Widescreen DVDs because you would obviously have the black bars on the top and bottom of your CRT. So they would look for the Full Screen DVDs. Same people still own these Full Screen DVDs today and its hilarious because when they go to watch them on their widescreen LED, they now complain about the bars on the left and right lol

Thank you this information is perfect.also thanks to Aleksandr Orlov for doing the comparison
Is it region free?
Don't know. We're region A, and there haven't been any reports from other regions yet.
This is on Blu-ray but not everybody loves Raymond. Lame but still appreciated
Do you still have this? Want to sell it?
Yes and no.
I own German Boxset
Region B Blu-ray STAFFEL
Original macgyver is on blu-ray
Well, the first season is on Blu-Ray. We're currently waiting on Koch Media to release the full set.
For us, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
@@CerealAtMidnight And we're not having an "big debate". Just a friendly discussion.
They think they'll loose a couple of stock points of we ever see a glimpse of a black bar
Back in the day, they did Pan&Scan to put movie in 1.33:1 (4x3). Now they do the same with ratios like 2.35:1 to put them in 1.78:1 (16x9)
Most people don't care about the black bars.
That was really weird
But those, and ones you're talking about, i feel they are the vocal minority. I really think most people don't even care
I suspect you're right. The vocal minority rears its ugly head again!
I hate any old TV sitcom on bluray or 4k, it makes them seem too realistic i cant take serious, i like my 480 and 720ps thank u very much
