- This is without a doubt my luckiest tape gamble of all time. I was expecting Rugrats episodes from around 1997, but never in a million years did I expect to find not one, but THREE Rugrats episodes from their original 1991 airings! Get ready to salivate with nostalgia, because these commercials come from the original airings of the Rugrats episode "Weaning Tommy / Incident in Aisle Seven" and the Ren & Stimpy episode "Untamed World" (which was followed by a "Space Madness" rerun).

Yes, I'm aware that Amazon and Wikipedia have conflicting information regarding the premiere dates of these episodes. I've done the research, and all evidence points to this recording being from November 10th.

Nickelodeon was definitely at its best in the 90s.
I feel the same way about Cartoon Network and Disney Channel as I grew up with all three channels, though I didn't watch Disney Channel until the early 2000s. But I do remember watching Disney's One Saturday Morning back in the 90s.
Times have really changed and Nickelodeon will never be the same again wow that’s really sad.

@@treseancann1261 Funny story about One Saturday Morning, the person who was in charge of that was the same person that revamped Nickelodeon in the 80s: Geraldine Laybourne and it was her first job after stepping down as president of Nick in 1996
No other generation has better commercials, than the late 80s and 90s. They truly were the best of my childhood days.

I'm sure the fact that you're an adult now probably has alot to do with you thinking it's not good now. I don't think it's very good anymore either but honestly I'm way over the demographic so I can't fairly speak on the networks quality without being biased for the old days.
John K was taking his sweet time, so shorts from the first season were being premiered sporadically, like here when "Untamed World" premiered by itself.
My family didn't have cable till 1996 so its interesting to see a Nickelodeon Commercial break from 1991. Even though I was 1 around this time.
I am 100% sure I was watching this live when it aired. I was 7 and completely nuts about NickToons when they first started. I mean, that first season of Ren & Stimpy changed my LIFE. It's blowing my freaking mind to thing that I've seen this exact sequence of commercials once before, 27 years ago...holy shit!

I felt the Honey Smacks commercial early on was the most familiar. Something about the cat and those plunger arrows, for whatever reason, lol.

I have a 1992 airing of Untamed World, but the episode before it is Marooned. I have several other R&S episodes from that period, 2 have breaks.

At 10:55 even the Nick voice over knew that Ren & Stimpy had gross or innapropriate moments! I still thought the cartoon was hilarious though.
That's longtime Nickelodeon voiceover, "Joe From Chicago", and yes that's how he use to address his name. He use to host Nick Rocks in the 80s.

However pretty tame by today's standards. However "The Ren and Stimpy Show" set the stage for a lot of those shows like "South Park," "Family Guy," and much of the Adult Swim original programming.

Nickelodeon has changed so much. It was great during the 90s an now it's a shell of it's former self. I think for it to gain it's essence back it needs that announcer who voiced the Nickelodeon bumpers. Bring back more bumpers. Advertise more things like toys. An if it's possible get more cereal commercials. That's what's part of a kids balanced breakfast in the 90s. Now cereal isnt so healthy for kids due to the sugar content. They get those along with better shows they'll be back where they belong. Cartoon Network should do the same as well.
Sadly culture has changed way too much. So many kids are stuck on the iPads now that dont even know how to play with toys!

According to wikipedia, that rugrats episode was feb 12 1992... And nov 10th didn't have a new episode. I believe you tho, bc you have the tape! But if you read this just clear it up for me :)
Wikipedia's guide is incorrect. Amazon lists the air date as 11/10/1991, which makes sense given the commercials in this recording.

The date on Amazon is pretty much everywhere, because until I found this tape, everybody thought "Marooned / Untamed World" premiered as a pairing. My tapes prove however that the segments actually premiered separately about a month apart. Space Madness was rerun on November 10th to fill the remainder of the half hour.
