You Mister know exactly what you're doing!!!! The syncopated pre-chorus section is correct!!! Seen so many other channels attempt to break it down but they are wrong. Some interpretations are sad and lame.... Yours is spot on. Bravo!!!!!!!! The tab I was even using to teach a student of mine was wrong........
ABSOLUTELY THE BEST UNCHAINED AND SOMEBODY GET ME A DOCTOR EVER DONE NOW AND IN THE FUTURE, you are incredible sir.... this man puts all others TO SHAME !!!!
Thanks for having the patience to take your time on your videos some people just rush through it but you’re real meticulous in you’re teaching. Thank you very much!
Great job, Brett! Fair Warning has ALWAYS been at the top of my VH favorites. Love That Album! Watching and listening to you break this down just reminded me, once again, of the Brilliance of EVH!!! I’m glad we got to enjoy his immense contribution to music while he was here with us!
I learn from you. You slow it down and tell us exactly what to do. Unlike some people just play it and think everyone can get it. I have picked up on a lott from you man thanks a lot.
I used my AnyTune to slow this down to 30% and there are only 5 mutes on the first one with the next two getting 4 muted hits on the D. I love this program for really getting into the nitty-gritty of things. Thanks for the awesome breakdown.
Eddie's jazz influences from his father are in this and many other songs. He loved jazz style syncopation, down beat and up beat in his right hand rhythms. In the intro he's slightly ahead of the beat when it goes to the double stop that resolves into the C at the end of the main riff, but when the vocals come in, he's no longer ahead of it but right in sync w the vocals.
I always wondered where Ed came up with this stuff. I recall Alex saying that when he went out on Friday nights, Ed would be sitting on the edge of his bed with a six pack practicing. When Alex got home Ed would still be there. At party's people mention finding Ed somewhere practicing without an amp. I guess if that's all you do all the time, your going to get good.
@@BrettPapa I would really like SPECIFIC info on the brown sound...you nailed it & I have the MXR Distortion, the EVH phaser & for this song I also have the EVH Flanger, but there is no info for settings....just saying "There is a button for this song"-does that mean only hit that button or hit the pedal and where should the other 4 knobs be set at?
I'm fucking stoked to play this song. it's always been one of my favorites and never thought I'd be able to play it. thank you! killer lesson and killer tone!
Hey Brett,This is before ya got frankie.Still sounds killer, but I bet ya wish you had it at the time,I don't own one,but I watched your panama lesson.Awesome my friend.you're a very good teacher man, keep it up,it takes a special person. Thanks again.
GREAT JOB! Try upstroke to start song & 4 chunks only on the first time (3 on all of the rest). It’s a song FULL of very subtle techniques but when you find them it all just clicks!
Sounds great! Great finger tone!!!!! What humbucker have you got in there!? Yes I know I won't sound as awesome as that with the pickup alone!!!! Thanks!!!
Outstanding work, BP! The isolation track of this song makes by brain hurt. All the extra EVH harmonics, raking and percussion that he throws in, and parts of it are off the beat. It's hard enough just to figure out the notes!
Papa!!! You’re the best! One question though!!! What the hell was in the water out there in Cali during the mid 70’s- 80’s. Sheesus! Van Halen, Lynch, DeMartini, the list goes on! Ooooff! So good!
Dude these series kicks ass. Keep em' coming. Thinking about selling (or trading) my TC Flashback v1 for the Echoplex delay or even the MXR Carbon copy. I basically leave it right now (if using) on a one repeat tape echo anyway at that was a "tone print". I just feel like analog sounds better for everything, you can probably dial it in to do some slapback or more trippy delays anyway. Tone sounds great man, I wish I had these lessons when I was 16.
I noticed you moved the volume knob to the 2nd pot slot. My man! Best thing you can do to a Strat next to putting a humbucker in the bridge. I'm surprised I don't see this mod more often.
Thank you for posting this. This is just about the best tutorial on the song! Thank you for telling us the pedals you use with the song. Authentic EVH sound!! I got a question. You have any tabs for this song?
Just found your videos, love how you explain and demo. It really clicks for me..! What type of wood is the body you are using? Thanks, And I will be following you mister..😊
Hi Brett, Great video. For your next lesson could you please explain the madness of "Sinner's Swing"? It's probably the most underrated =vh= song out there!
"I think I need to tighten the nut" = Bingo! Trick is to unclamp, slack strings so no tension on nut, then loosen nut slightly and make sure it's firmly seated against the fingerboard while you crank it down. = No more tuning issues.
Please for my birthday Jan 31st do a lesson on shadows of life by Dokken please!!! Off of album dicfuncktional George Lynch is Amazing same kind of guy like Eddie thanks Brett Pappa rock on Rockn Rumsey!!!
Hey Brett, I was watching one of your golden oldies Disturbed. At the end of the song intro you let out this blood curling scream and I busted up laughing. Check it out, it's their first hit song to see how stupid you use to get, lol.
Good stuff. You play it well and correctly, but unless I’m hallucinating you’re *saying* something wrong. It’s five mutes ONLY the first time EVH plays the riff during each 8-measure cycle: every other time it’s four mutes. That first chord going to the sus-4 is slightly different in rhythm from the rest to accommodate the fifth mute. Right? Let me know if I’m on crack, but that’s what I hear. It’s one of those great Eddie details that makes listening to Van Halen pay dividends long after you thought you’d caught it all.
Hey Papa u have a new subscriber!!!! What an awesome lesson. This was enlightening. Can u do any King diamond songs???? U fuckin rock Pops. Thank u for this lesson. This will keep me out of trouble. I have better stuff to devote my time too.
For the most part yes. Depends on the era though. All that early stuff had an EQ as a boost though which was a huge part of the sound. A MXR 10 band and also how he biased the amp made a big difference on the tone and the amount of saturation that the amp got. .
Thanks for uploading! If you have a minute, we tried our hand at an Eddie Van Halen tribute video. As fellow music fans, we'd love if you'd take a listen. It's on our page. Don't go too hard on us :)
AWESOME LESSON !!!..The best one on Unchained I've watched so far!!
