    The Madill story I remember was a friend of the family recounting how there was rumblings of the staff wanting to organize with a union. The family brought in the staff to a meeting where they were to set everyone straight. They stated that the owners would support the unionizing of the workforce if that was the consensus. Not many places where they would welcome a union by the employer. It was sad when they lost a large chunk of the family in the plane crash.

    I did but I always do. Hayes and Madill DID change everything. Wished it was still that way liie you do but 'progress' is a crock sometimes. Thanks, Pal! A-PLUS!

    why did they use a wood log on super snorkels ?

    • @skadill
      @skadill  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      For cheap boom extension and reach.The super snorkels(120 foot extension) are metal pipe and strengthened by cables,lots of expense.A wood snorkel would be cheaply and quickly taylor made at each new site as needed.Reduced the amount of "machine" to move as well if being hauled down a road/transported.A bent super snorkel is expensive and big down time.

    How did they stretch out the cables across a valley to hook to the yarder?

    • @skadill
      @skadill  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Every yarder has a strawline drum(Every U.S. yarder has a Haywire drum)It hold sections of 3/8" line that is laid out by hand.That small line goes through the set out yarding and haulback path first and pulls the big lines out to be connected to eachother.The coils of strawline are 150 foot long and join eachother with hooks.
