- Today I forge A knife from a railroad spike. Railroad spike don't make the best knives, but are good for practicing forging and make cool display pieces. I had a customer ask me to make this one to hang up in his house.

No need to quench RR spikes. You can get some Cherry Red compound and case harden them. Preheat the quench oil to 160F.

Good hammer work man.
A cool way to practice forge welding san mai, is to taco that spike, and insert a high carbon bit for the edge. Adds a new dimension to the work

I've never had the harbour freight anvil. The new one they have almost seems better than the vevor or accaio. They moved the pritchel to where the hardy hole is more.
I started on I beam and moved to rail road track. Then got the accaio. Definitely works a charm
