I think it's because of human nature and the desire to see femininity, which also includes caring. The modern world rarely shows us feminine girls, so any theme adds a pleasant feeling from contemplating a beautiful feminine girl, Nana is a wonderful example for other girls.

That's why I find It interesting, because I honestly don't know how to express It. Maybe Goth is also a reminder of reinessance, or victorian era. And things like Edgar Allan Poe and other writers who saw the whole thing of death as some kind of fragile love.
