It's the same effect the Ototo figure from the same box set has. That one reminds me more of the "BAMF!" effect from 1960's TV Batman, so now that's stuck in my head.
You'd have to either cut it apart or apply more plastic cement to soften and then pry it apart. I don't remember the time for the entire crew. I tend to work on several different models at once so it is hard to note length of time.
Thank you very much for producing these videos. I've learned a lot from them and I really like your style of painting. The freehand work on this mini looks excellent! Keep up the great work and videos!
That's a really impressive paint job. I think your free handing work came out excellently, and I thank you for your advice. I'm just about to start work on a Ophelia LaCroix model from Malifaux, and I wanted to do some freehand work on her clothes. I'm going to try the dot method! Hopefully it will turn out better than what it probably would have before I watched this video.
Good job! I like how it turned out. I am mostly impressed that you successfully built the dang thing!! I have the Lady Justice crew box and I am intimidated by the build step in modeling these miniatures. Your pinning video was good. Thanks for the video!
I really like this video! It's inspiring. My new Malifaux crew is shipping atm, got Ramos and a gang of Arcanists. Would really like to up my painting for those models, and going to stick with your tips and tricks.
Very nice painting and very nice video. I love how you describe what you are doing and also the mistakes that you made, so that we can learn from both. I usually find freehand painting of details to be very challenging but in some ways very rewarding... it requires so much concentration that it's almost like meditation. Do you also experience this?
I love the freehand and I think it's exactly the way a chinese silk robe would look. My Misaki (if I ever will own one) will be without the Swoosh- thingy. It appears to be quite easy to remove.
To your credit Faust, you are humble and able to critique your own work… I learn a great deal from what you call "mistakes", which are more on par with discoveries than errors. For my part I am excited to procure this figure and try my hand at a bit of flowered silk!
That model looks super fiddly to put together. For the swoosh maybe do a water effect on the base where the swoosh attaches and paint it up to look like she kicked through a puddle? Maybe some super super fine grit and grit the swoosh up to make it look like she's kicking up a dirt?
hey faust, i know its like a year late lol but was gunna be curious if you would like the idea of painting that thing attached to the foot as water and the base as a pond with maybe a lilly pad or something in or a lotus flower to make it match the style of the model
Doctor, where is that transparent silk stocking tutorial video that you did with the Orian ? I had it on my watch later and can’t find it now… I needed to reference it again…..
You could have a clear cast of the swoosh effect, if you know how to do that with clear resin. But that would solve the issue and bring the attention back to the figure.
When you put that "fast movement" piece in, you have two things I would like to point out: One, yes, if it's white it looks like a comic book. However, Two, when things move fast enough they leave behind a "streak" of themselves, for example her foot is purple so the streak should be purple. I recommend a light (or even darker) purple to comment this, and make it look less like a comic book "swishh" and more like she's just moving fast.
Man, this is neat... regarding the swoosh, I kinda wonder how it would look like if the tip attacked to the foot and the one on the found were the same color as the sock, with the rest of it being a gradient-to-white to the middle of the thing... Well, it would probably look really neat on an animation frame but I have no idea how it would look on a sculpture :P
its a job of an artist to crit themselves this way they get better but deeep down he knows he is good even if he himself tells it out loud that he is just average, its a mental thing that just becomes custom to end up making ones self even better at something on another project. i personally give this a 9/10 would be a 9.6/10 but i would have made the swoosh a light water look with some watery gloss to it. its probably dirt but dirt looks meh crystal water highlighted as light shines on it would look amazing. nothing gets a 10 in my book cause nothing is perfect.
I wouldn't mind if you had just let it run the full length when doing the violet color, for example. People can always skip ahead themselves if they want :) Loving your video's!
Good luck and not having her break in the future. The swoosh is more anime than comic book. Other than changing the color from the earth tone of the ground all the way to white at the top?
You keep mentioning that doing dots ruined brushes fast. Are you using sable brushes or artificial like a gw brush? Would this make a difference? I don't want to use me good Windsor newton brush for dots if it will get trashed.
How the heck could I have missed this? The only reason I found it in the first place was because I youtubed painting malifaux... Now, it's abeutiful figure, but I agree on the strange kick thingie; if I go ahead and purhase that set, I'll probably leave it off, especially since its not as you said, a magic effect.
ThePaintingClinic oh right, I think I got used to seeing people painted her bare feet rather than with a shoe. Then again don't shoe have sole? haha :D I really like the pattern btw I never had the patience to free hand
Doctor Faust's Painting Clinic You really need to put up a video/page with all the equipment you use that people can just refer to, I see this question come up quite often sometimes, unless you already have and I haven't seen it yet...
YOU ARE A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! Free Hand Work it's Wonderfull. I really like your video, I'm watching all of them! Please make a lot of video. P.S. I really like also your " Irony ": " I S*ck at Free Hand! " You lie! :D What do you live? I want to know you! xD
I really liked the flower pattern. It looks beautiful!
It's the same effect the Ototo figure from the same box set has. That one reminds me more of the "BAMF!" effect from 1960's TV Batman, so now that's stuck in my head.
Those flowers.etc. are exceptional!!!
"Not really good at this"? You sir are doing a marvelous job!
Love the colors...soft..yet deadly! Another well done job
I'm glade you made this video so we can see how you freehand-ed it. Awesome work sir!
That's some next level painting very well done the model looks beautiful
Stunning work man. I will definitely be using this as a sort of guide when i get my Misaki model.
You'd have to either cut it apart or apply more plastic cement to soften and then pry it apart. I don't remember the time for the entire crew. I tend to work on several different models at once so it is hard to note length of time.
Love your work !
Very creative
Looks great. It is nice to see vids like this to remind me I can decorate the surface of the model, not just cover it in flat paint.
Thank you very much for producing these videos. I've learned a lot from them and I really like your style of painting. The freehand work on this mini looks excellent! Keep up the great work and videos!

Great stuff! I like the look of this model and your color scheme. I do wish you had been able to get a close up of the free hand, though.
Good job! I like how it turned out. I am mostly impressed that you successfully built the dang thing!! I have the Lady Justice crew box and I am intimidated by the build step in modeling these miniatures. Your pinning video was good. Thanks for the video!
You don't suck at freehands man! Great work!
Excellent vid. Awesome job on the cherry blossom pants.
I really like this video! It's inspiring.

Yeah, likely will go back and add more gray shade.
Very nice painting and very nice video. I love how you describe what you are doing and also the mistakes that you made, so that we can learn from both.
I usually find freehand painting of details to be very challenging but in some ways very rewarding... it requires so much concentration that it's almost like meditation. Do you also experience this?
Thanks for doing this! I won't lie, this was one of the tutorials that I was looking forward to the most. :D
I love the freehand and I think it's exactly the way a chinese silk robe would look.

Really outstanding work my friend. Sakura are really difficult to represent in miniature at times and you did a really fine job indeed.

Sounds legit.
GREAT IDEA, Manic!
Your brush strokes are so accurate :O
Thats so awesome! Great work!
Love it! As a suggestion to "the movement action" why not just paint it to resemble the ground and the further up it goes, make it look like dust?
Amazing work!!!
Cool video ty for making this video I always learn something new when watching your videos ty
ur a wizard how on earth can u keep your hand so stable its !?!?!?! ok i go and start to practice
I'm VERY late to the party here but that's a lovely miniature aside from the "whoosh" thingy. Great choice of colors.
Doctor, where is that transparent silk stocking tutorial video that you did with the Orian ?
I had it on my watch later and can’t find it now… I needed to reference it again…..
wow, just wow!

I don't remember. Likely by adding Vallejo Game Color Sombre Grey.
I like the way it your freehand work came out, however I'm not sure if that model needed it. Even plain her outfit is ornate enough to be eye catching

cool vid! could we get a list of the paints you used?
Stop criticizing this! It looks great!

how long did you need to paint this lady ? Really great work I think I will try to paint this one as well. Thank you!
I wouldn't mind if you had just let it run the full length when doing the violet color, for example. People can always skip ahead themselves if they want :) Loving your video's!
Good luck and not having her break in the future. The swoosh is more anime than comic book. Other than changing the color from the earth tone of the ground all the way to white at the top?
beautiful as always :)
from the picture, i thought you had used nail art transfers, but it was freehand all along. :)
very nice work ;)
You keep mentioning that doing dots ruined brushes fast. Are you using sable brushes or artificial like a gw brush? Would this make a difference? I don't want to use me good Windsor newton brush for dots if it will get trashed.
Oh. Im not suppose to glue both her legs to the effect... How would one go about fixing that? And how long did it take you to paint her entire crew?
I would hqve done the swoosh thing in the colours of yhe base as I see more as kicked up dirt and dust
Nice work, and really cool score, Did i say nice, meant awesooooome
Have you set up a twitter yet? Seems like it would be useful.
I know some don't mind longer vids, but TH-cam gives me all sorts of statistics. Most people's attention spans start to fail around the 9 minute mark.
A dust cloud is not a solid object, so it's the same issue.
I think she is supposed to be standing on water, so the swoosh thing would be water trailing from her kick.
At least for me, the length of the video isn't a hurdle. I won't get bored if you decide to put in all the footage.
I really to know why was the feet blue? I didn't quite watched all the way through but the finish look great just the feet is confusing to me.
She is wearing a new invention called shoes. Jika-tabi, to be specific.
ThePaintingClinic oh right, I think I got used to seeing people painted her bare feet rather than with a shoe. Then again don't shoe have sole? haha :D I really like the pattern btw I never had the patience to free hand
soled shoes are a relatively new invention.
soled shoes are a relatively new invention.
cool video that all i can say is cool video
Which brush do you use?
Princeton Art 4050r #2.
Doctor Faust's Painting Clinic You really need to put up a video/page with all the equipment you use that people can just refer to, I see this question come up quite often sometimes, unless you already have and I haven't seen it yet...
I already did. See how well it worked? Have to do one every 3 months to keep it fresh.
You are way too hard on yourself, this came out exquisite
I got enough social media. I don't even like carrying a phone around.
Well that ended awfully abruptly. ;0
YOU ARE A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!
Free Hand Work it's Wonderfull. I really like your video, I'm watching all of them! Please make a lot of video.

Misaki wins
one dislike b/c he couldn't "see" the green in the turquoise
More Dots, More Dots
