I saw Godspell in 1973. I sat there wide eyed in rapt attention as the songs spoke to my soul. I cried my eyes out at the end. I have loved it ever since i saw it and it still affects me the same way. Jesus loves me, and He loves you too dear listeners.

They are future baby boomers so it does not matter what they do in their early life. They will end up with expensive real estate from their parents and then make a killing on the stock market and living on a full pension, watching fox news 24/7 and calling the cops if a black man drives a delivery truck into their street.
When I first saw this movie as a know-it-all teenager, I dismissed the characters as juvenile. Later I realized this was the whole point, that faith was making them childlike in the best sense of the world--open to hope, joy and renewal.
Think about a common-man play of this variety being done in the 19th century, 1920s or even 1930s. It would be inconceivable. This type of opulence and free-time was reserved only for the children of the elite privileged few. But in ONE GENERATION in the US, with a burgeoning economy from Ford's Stakeholder capitalistic system and a big helping hand from those Cultural Marxists who encouraged this and ANYTHING that destroyed traditional social mores and folkways, we've denigrated to the concept of THIS as art, and a reflective look into new ideal societal norms. No, I'm not overthinking this, not in the slightest. If you study Fromm, Adorno, Horkheimer and Marcuse, especially Andorno and Marcuse; the children of the rich elite with no need for work or responsibility from their era, this is EXACTLY the goal they sought for America; the progression to utterly destroy society as it's been known; to tear it all down to be rebuilt it in the image of their greatness. Their "UTOPIA". The dream-world of other spoiled elite little rich kids with nothing but too much time on their hands. Only here, thanks to Stakeholder Capitalism, the thing they sought to destroy, the thing that brought in reality things socialists only DREAM to bring to society at least via their mantras and manifestos, are things they already had; the same societal success which ultimately gave birth to this opulence ubiquitous within the youth of the middle-class. In one generation. Amazing..... Well, it's all gone now. That well-to-do rich middle-class that gave birth to all this is gone. It's back to shareholder capitalism, and the middle-class that once shifted upward from the working poor is back down there again. It's back down to the days of the early 19th century or getting more like it every day; working multiple low-paying jobs just to survive paycheck to paycheck. Now the children of these free thinkers with too much time on their hands will have their hands out for a crust of bread to their elite masters just like the elites desired them to so many years ago. That's the "utopia", not the mantras or manifestos, they were nothing but a ruse to gain power; TAKE power with the help of the masses. All just for them. Their own monarchy; their own just dues to honor their true greatness. Their solidification of power over "the herd" as Nietzsche would say. Didn't you know?
Amen. I was same. When I saw this movie years ago, I could not appreciate it as much as I do now. I just thought they were dirty rebellious hippies. But its like you said, faith does make us childlike. There is Freedom in the Holy Spirit. Love this movie.

I hadn't heard this in over 50 years. I'm in a production and in our first rehearsal we watched this movie. I KNEW this melody. It was lying within me, waiting to be set free. A friend, when I posted about these feelings said she couldn't stop singing this after she was reminded of it. This is TRUTH. This is FAITH. This is JOY.
Whenever I've drifted from Christ I always find myself listening to this musicals songs (the film soundtrack specifically) whenever I start returning. I grew up watching this on DVD with my dad and loving it. It just makes me feel so spiritual and in Gods pressence anytime I listen to it. No matter how many times I've been burned by aspects of the human body of Christ it brings me peace knowing I can be immediately reminded with even just the sound of John The Baptists horn. God Bless
I saw the movie in 1973 when I was 14. The next year I went to High School and to my surprise they were holding auditions for GODSPELL at my school! I was so nervous at auditions but I got the part of "Jeffrey" (the clown with the flute). The show was a huge success and we went on to perform it for chairty at the local 2000 seat music center. Biggest thrill of my life.
I am still a pilgrim looking for my way. In the last four years I have dealt with major health issues. First emergency spinal surgery. Then fighting to remission Stage 4A Ductal Prostate Cancer, though they said it probably will come back. Thought I was done with these battles. However, things are never that easy. They just found an egg sized brain tumor that will have to come out (to big for radiation). The songs from Godspell give me hope. Perhaps I will stop wondering and find grace before the end.🙏❤️
I'm not a religious person.. but I've always loved this musical. The music is beautiful.. and this movie is a time capsule of life in the 70s. The naive innocence of it all..
You don't have to be a "religious person". Just love Jesus for being the Word, the teacher and the Saviour God for being the Father and the Creator of a wondrous planet and universe The Holy Spirit / Comforter / Paraclete / Advocate for offering meaning and healing and comfort and signs and such beautiful things as the above even in the horrendous world ruled by the darkness of S*t*n as 1 John 5:19 reminds us.
Loved this musical, too. Music is beautiful, a time capsule of life in the 70s, the naive innocence of it all. All so true. I was just 13 then, an awkward freshie in high school, when Godspell was required movie viewing for us in school back in 1973.
@@sidpheasant7585 Thanks for the response.. but I'm well aware of Christian theology. I was born and raised in a Christian environment.. was very involved in the music program at our church. However.. after years of study.. I've come to a different place when it comes to the Bible.. now that I know how it was edited and changed throughout the centuries. It's not for me anymore.. but I still love this musical.
If there is a God, and if it's true at some point the Christ is going to return, I really want him to be heralded back exactly like this. I want to dance in a fountain and everything. lol
The fountain scene is an interesting variation of a Baptismal ceremony, after which the newly baptized go back into the world, changed and ready for its challenges.
We need more movies like this-movies that lift your spirit and leave you feeling joyful! There’s times I secretly wish I could toss my purse in the garbage!
My father was John the Baptist in his churches performance of godspell before I was born. Later in life I saw both his version and this one as well and I remember how proud he was watching this and telling me how much fun he had preforming this song as well as "all for the best" he passed this march really suddenly and I don't have his vhs of his performance but I do have this
This soundtrack makes me smile, I will never forget what it felt like to be part of a Godspell production, small and amateur as it was. Doesn't get much more amateur than high school :)
I feel like it truly captures what being washed clean by the spirit means to us. Also what it would be like for those who saw jesus for who he was at first sight, even amidst our joy at his promise!
Parts of it are too over-the-top jokey and silly for me, and I think they could take out all the goofy sound effects and mugging and it would still be a great film - maybe even better, because to me all of that stuff is distracting. But on the whole it works, and it's a unique look at New York City - a moment frozen in time.
As timeless and perfect as they day it was released - Such a joyful affirmation of life! Whenever my spirit is heavy I watch this on video and light fills my heart.
I met Joanne Jonas of the cast in the 70's in NYC. I was a young fan and she was super cool. Really nice person. I've been a big fan of Godspell all my life.
The biggest realization I ever made, was you have to accept Jesus Christ, 100% into your life, and let him take over completely..not just as and when you need him..I've been lukewarm with my saviour for far too long, but not anymore ..love to everyone here...god bless you always xxx
This brought back so many memories. Did anyone notice that the black girl was the same girl on where is Carmen Santiago. She has since passed away but it was so cool seeing her at 25 years old.
Wish they'd put this movie on TV. So many of these songs were anointed of the Lord which is his stamp of approval. Surely those taking part in this were affected and perhaps for the first time really considered their great creator!
Gives me goosebumps. Here is a select group of people amongst all the hustle and bustle of New York City, being called to chuck their old lives, and begin anew in the Lord. And everyone not called looks at them like they are crazy.Truly great scene.
lol, it is a little like noticing an unexpected/out of place clown or naked person that suddenly appeared out of nowhere and is motionlessly staring at you?! 🤣 Those who have watched a lot of horror films will understand. 😅
This song just popped into my head after months off torment and suffering I saw the light and prosperity ahead after much toil. I was reflecting on my work today when this song popped into my head. Jesus truly helps and provides for those who help themselves ❤️
Godspell was the very first musical I did and it’s the first musical I saw as a kid! This show has been influential to me as an actor and continues to be inspirational to me in my late 20s!
Ever since I was a young boy [9]this is my Favorite Gospel Musical ever on Stage n Screen especially. It shows how we felt when first we were called to Follow Jesus Christ. Hasnt changed in my life.
Jesus and god are just myths, though, and don't really exist. Just take the message to live joyfully in this little time you have as one life form on one planet amongst multi trillions of galaxies and call it good.
@@zamaz99 Jesus isn’t a myth, he really walked this earth. Neither is God. Where do you think the trillions of galaxies came from if not from the great almighty? They didn’t just come from nothing for no reason. Besides, if that was the case and we are merely matter fading in the wind, then the only pleasure we could ever obtain is that which soon fades to nothing as well.
@@sneakysnake2330 - Lol. What kind of a silly explanation is that? So where did your god come from, then? What is your evidence that a magical being was able to create millions of galaxies? ... What nonsense! Just because pleasure is fleeting doesn't make it worthless--if anything, it makes it more precious because we're here for a short time and then we're gone for eternity.
@@zamaz99 I’m not referring to a magic being, I’m referring to the necessary first cause of all things. We know that our universe had a cause and came into existence at the Big Bang. The Big Bang as an event, must have been caused. There must have then been a first cause, and it must have been uncaused as an infinite causal chain is impossible. This first cause that all things came from is what we call God. Not magic, not fairy tales, just straightforward logic. Atheism seems much more like the fairy tale if one must believe then that everything just appeared one day from nothing for no reason.
I was watching Riverside Calvary Presbyterian Church service on Fb yesterday 12/18/2022 and their choir sang this as part of a focus message for the Christmas season. My high school, Riverside Poly was one of the first high schools to perform this in 1974. The Christian community scorned at production when the Broadway/movie was doing it but The Word of the Lord does not return void ( see Isaiah 55:11). So many seeds of belief where planted & at least half grew roots in fertile soil. Many believers came from our production included myself - GOD had been leading me towards a commitment since 1970 when I saw “The Cross and the Switchblade”. 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
I saw the original version albeit by one of the traveling troupes, as a 13 year old girl at the Coconut Grove Play House, in Coral Gables FL, This was in 1970. Give or take a year or two. Rune Kapter (sp) , played the part of Christ. It was a Ponce deLeon Jr. High school field trip. It changed my life because of the music, the idea of the show, and that Christ could be portrayed in such a beautifully simple and joyous way! I was NOT brought up in church. My father was an atheist! My mother a lapsed Episcopalian. This sweet but powerful musical haunts me still @ age 60. I have always played music (guitar, singing) and “Take My Hand” has always been one of my favorites to sing when ever I have needed reminding that I’m not always alone. Whether in my mind or in my heart, I will never forget that day when I saw this. I still have the original vinyl album, and the playbill. Thank you GodSpell!
I wish religions focused on this more: the unabashed and unbridled joy of finding God and celebrating what you believe with both strangers and people you care about, as opposed to using your beliefs to win an argument or to call for the persecution of others.
Depends on where you go. You still should know that you have to follow God's teachings; there is no way around that. The dividends are great if you do. Another thing is a church, religion whatever, can tell you of the things God disapproves, that will lead you away from God... damnation if you will. However, they should tell you with the next breath it will be God's call on damnation or salvation, not theirs. Doesn't mean they will accept your behavior either. Still what was fascinating about this era were the interpretations of the Bible. It shows what a difficult time people were having understanding the Bible. Yet they had a sincere desire to try to find God. Within 15-20 years of Godspell and JC Superstar people started teaching the Bible better and finally understanding it was written for a 1st Century Jewish audience, not 21st Century secular or agnostic one. Watch the movie The Case for Christ or read the book The Case for Jesus. Most of these movies and songs ('One Tin Soldier' and 'Signs') follow more of the parable of the sower. Many of these hopeful ideas fell among the weeds and rocks (secularism, etc). There is a lot of excellent stuff available today. You might have to do a lot of looking, but it is well worth the effort if you are truly serious. Vaya con Dios
@@danielharness7974 What I would point out in that intervening stuff that back in the 1st Century, everyone thought that Christ would return before the Apostles died. I have had a number of people come up to me and say, "Any day now..." I reply what if it isn't? Do you want to be telling the Lord that whatever you weren't doing was because you thought the Lord was going to come soon? There are number of Bible verses about that too! The era of the 1st Century, Jesus's ministry and His education of the Apostles, Christ's resurrection and ascension, and the Canons of Bible are fascinating history.

@@barefootanimist Don’t be concerned with having to rationalize or compare Faith to scientific reasoning. This was never the point of the Gospels, Bible, or (from my humble and limited study and education on the subject, through life) any Sacred Texts of any Faith. Nor get caught up in the Human (political) interpretations .. these are some argument that I often see most recent generations use as excuse to leave and often mock religion 💔.. sadly, this behavior is often accepted and encouraged, at least with Christianity. Thankfully, at least many other Faiths are more protected in social media, etc. I am not saying that’s your experience. This play tries to demonstrate pure, humble faith rather than competitive arguments of modern understanding. For example, how many folks under 40’s, 30’a 20’s make fun of “an old man in the sky” and Argue scientific reality and the ever present “If God exist why doesn’t he prevent suffering?” These are age old issues, nothing new The whole point of this play is that Faith is not meant to prove the earthly validity of Beliefs, but that Faith is pure, innocent, humble and there is no need to hold it up to modern life Faith and love is there for you, everyone is welcome God’s love is open to all
I remember going to church in the 70s & this is exactly how it was... Long summer days and this was how our weekends were.. Sunday school was different and being part of it all felt right but politics and poverty learned how to dismantle everything this era had achieved in a heartbeat.. Shame because you can feel the positivity..
This is some of the best music ever written. End of story. Listen to the Broadway version of GODSPELL too. You will absolutely love it. You really will.
Xendava while the broadway version is good I still think the movie version is the best. Also I don’t like how they changed Tower of Babel in the new broadway version the older version of Tower of Babel is the better one, at least in my opinion.
The 2011 Broadway revival is amazing and has a cleaner hard rock sound that I love but I love all the versions (except Godspell Jr. because they basically ruined the second act)
I remember when I saw this on Broadway with my sister and her boyfriend. We saw it on Broadway during the summer of 1977. I have seen performed three other times. A theatrical group called Creative Ministries. So much fun!
It's pretty close t perfect eh? Open the service with it with members of the congregation starting t sing "prepare ye" from among them, all just leaving the crowd t join the other singers singers at the dias.... I'd love t organise a stage production of this in a massive service at AOG or something. It wld make more faith, more love. Just a wild guess, but isn't that what it all is t God?
Man this takes me back to when I was little and I would watch this movie with grandma. Even though as I got older i moved away from religion this is still one of my favorite movies.
I remember when things started to change a bit in my little country (Protestant) church in the early-mid 70's. Suddenly, we didn't go strictly by the (hymnal) book...lol. I also remember them passing out the 'Good News' New Testament paperback Bibles to all the kids and teens. That was the one with the 'stick figure' drawings in it. We even had a folk rock group come to perform one Sunday morning, the bass player came up in line behind me in school the next day, I turned around and said "were you playing at my church yesterday?" He asked me to go steady! I was 15 and 5'2"...he was 16 and 6'7"...LOL
one Sunday during Lent in 1973 or 74 our priest walked down the aisle with a staff singing this song! I was so blown away as a teenager. A decade later (1987) he baptized my youngest child.
Mother told me years ago that this is what it's like to be called, and I love that Gilmer temporarily represented the "Many are called, but few are chosen" until John intervened to include her. Personally, I will never forget Robin throwing her purse away like that.
Seems crazy these days - that people would actually give up their jobs - MONEY MAKING - and follow their heart - but it did happen, for a little while, in the 1970s - respect to the true hippies of that time.
I'm currently in a production of the 2012 revival. On our first day, we watched this. The last time I saw this scene I was just a little kid in the 70s. I hadn't heard this since. But the INSTANT I heard the melody I remembered. Just lying within me waiting to be awakened.
Thank you for posting this. Godspell was (is) a very interesting one-man translation of the gospel (with all the limitations inherent in one-man translations), but it does an excellent job of causing us to think about what Jesus and the disciples would look like to our contemporary (or at least 1970's contemporary) society.
I first saw the movie with my church youth group in thr 70s. Ore group leader took us to NYC to see it. I've always loved it since. Just now watching the video I got such intense body tingles or goosebumps as people here have said. It's so powerful.

It's like the beginning of a real Love story! Watch it!
God Bless
I'd say I'm a follower of The Gospel According To Godspell, myself. 🙂
Ironically this is my favourite musical. Its so joyous and wonderful it fills you with such spirits and hope.
we can make Heaven on Earth right here, we just gotta take care of each other
Yup, mine too. It's so sad not many streaming services have it, AND it's not free! They OBVIOUSLY did something right, and struck a cord.. lol
Did you mean to say "spiritS" plural?
Maybe you should consider changing your career...?
I hope you find Jesus.
Like "Day By Day", the lyrics were simplistic. But the powerful composition and messages in these songs have carried me for nearly 50 years
The word is simple.
The soundtrack is basically a selection of "hymns" set to popular style music (of the 70s). That's what made it stand out.

Jesus loves you.

The Grace is available and it’s free. Call on the name of the Lord. He will never leave you or forsake you. This is His promise to us. God bless!
cpecpecpe fear not
All you have to do is be open.

I'm not a religious person.. but I've always loved this musical. The music is beautiful.. and this movie is a time capsule of life in the 70s. The naive innocence of it all..
You don't have to be a "religious person".
Just love Jesus for being the Word, the teacher and the Saviour
God for being the Father and the Creator of a wondrous planet and universe
The Holy Spirit / Comforter / Paraclete / Advocate for offering meaning and healing and comfort and signs and such beautiful things as the above even in the horrendous world ruled by the darkness of S*t*n as 1 John 5:19 reminds us.
My Aunt Ruthie took my cousins and me to see this movie… I love my Aunt Ruthie!! I still remember ❤
If there is a God, and if it's true at some point the Christ is going to return, I really want him to be heralded back exactly like this.
I want to dance in a fountain and everything. lol
Oh it will be all of that and more than we could ever imagine. He will be back for you.
Is the sun yellow or white? There is no 'if"
Luke 21:25 There will be signs in the sky

Oh my gosh Victor Garber was so lovely in this role! Loved this movie since I was a kid!
One of the finest openers in musical history.
The fountain scene is an interesting variation of a Baptismal ceremony, after which the newly baptized go back into the world, changed and ready for its challenges.
Well spotted - it was John the Baptist who shouted Prepare the Way of the Lord as a voice crying in the wilderness!
It is a delightfully clever musical!
The entire film was a beautiful metaphor.
We need more movies like this-movies that lift your spirit and leave you feeling joyful! There’s times I secretly wish I could toss my purse in the garbage!
My father was John the Baptist in his churches performance of godspell before I was born. Later in life I saw both his version and this one as well and I remember how proud he was watching this and telling me how much fun he had preforming this song as well as "all for the best" he passed this march really suddenly and I don't have his vhs of his performance but I do have this
I was 17 and saw this in the theater when it first came out. It changed me. For the better. Worship should be a celebration. Celebrate your faith.
I absolutely agree
Amen
This soundtrack makes me smile, I will never forget what it felt like to be part of a Godspell production, small and amateur as it was. Doesn't get much more amateur than high school :)
This song is very beautifulll thank you
This scene has such a unique and joyful vibe
I have to agree
I feel like it truly captures what being washed clean by the spirit means to us. Also what it would be like for those who saw jesus for who he was at first sight, even amidst our joy at his promise!
@@TheArgiShow Certainly made me moist 👌
Parts of it are too over-the-top jokey and silly for me, and I think they could take out all the goofy sound effects and mugging and it would still be a great film - maybe even better, because to me all of that stuff is distracting. But on the whole it works, and it's a unique look at New York City - a moment frozen in time.
They all have such beautiful expressions super talented people I love it
As timeless and perfect as they day it was released - Such a joyful affirmation of life! Whenever my spirit is heavy I watch this on video and light fills my heart.
A spiritual awakening, movement, and out pouring of the Holy Spirit was witnessed during this generation. Come Holy Spirit!!!
I wish they'd si g these songs in church today!! They'd be full❤🙏
They do - pray to the Holy Spirit to show you your Church
I met Joanne Jonas of the cast in the 70's in NYC. I was a young fan and she was super cool. Really nice person. I've been a big fan of Godspell all my life.
Awesome! She's beautiful.
The biggest realization I ever made, was you have to accept Jesus Christ, 100% into your life, and let him take over completely..not just as and when you need him..I've been lukewarm with my saviour for far too long, but not anymore ..love to everyone here...god bless you always xxx
absolutely fantastic film adaptation from the stage- perfect cast, perfect costumes, perfect orchestrations. just pure joy right here
This brought back so many memories. Did anyone notice that the black girl was the same girl on where is Carmen Santiago. She has since passed away but it was so cool seeing her at 25 years old.
Hello there! I hope you're doing tremendously well.😊
@@AlexanderPalamarchuk-ng6mw I’m doing awesomely well. I can never complain. I pray you are doing the same🙏
Wish they'd put this movie on TV. So many of these songs were anointed of the Lord which is his stamp of approval. Surely those taking part in this were affected and perhaps for the first time really considered their great creator!
Every liberal nutcase would have a complete meltdown if they did!!!!!!!
Gives me goosebumps. Here is a select group of people amongst all the hustle and bustle of New York City, being called to chuck their old lives, and begin anew in the Lord. And everyone not called looks at them like they are crazy.Truly great scene.
Whenever I am at the edge at my witts end seeing this musical pulls me back to solid happiness.
I love the pure joy in this.
I saw this musical in 1973 at Casa Manana theater in Fort Worth. I was a great experience!
no one gonna talk about how honestly terrifying the shots of jesus standing in the distance are?
It’s even weirder to realize it’s Victor Garber....
Your spot on John the Baptist would have been a better jesus
Why is that terrifying to you?
lol, it is a little like noticing an unexpected/out of place clown or naked person that suddenly appeared out of nowhere and is motionlessly staring at you?! 🤣 Those who have watched a lot of horror films will understand. 😅
@@BarreNoneBallet ahh, I didn't realize he was going to be Sydney Bristow's future father! ;-)
Best musical on stage live I’ve ever been to . Gained so much by going . ♥️
When I was in grade school we presented this in church. What energy and fun it was. Good memories. God Bless! 👍🙏✨❤️
Today is a great day! This is my song . ❤😊

Dear God,
Meecy me
This was the best time to be 10 years old. Everything was finally alright. Peace at last.
This looks like it was so much fun to film :)
Cold though!
Exhilarating! This song and "By My Side" are my favorites.
Yes! Love both songs
The seventies were great and seemingly the happiest we ever where
me too. I was 10..
I always wish I would have grown up in the late sixties/early seventies. I think i would have loved it. Maybe I lived then in a past life.
Except for Watergate, Jonestown, and the Son of Sam. Sure.
You had a serial killer on every block and kiddy fiddlers in every church. They were great times. 😊
@@jameshafner1442 no decade is 100% perfect, but the 70s were a lot happier than today
Hello there! I hope you're doing tremendously well.😊
I wish religions focused on this more: the unabashed and unbridled joy of finding God and celebrating what you believe with both strangers and people you care about, as opposed to using your beliefs to win an argument or to call for the persecution of others.
God is the one who determines how he is going to be worshipped not how people feel....jesus will be intervening in earth's affairs shortly.....
@@katrinaanon1038 Katrina ...how we know that jesus is going to get very busy in earth's affairs shortly is that the book of Daniel was to be sealed until the time of the end..those at the time of christ were not to be concerned about what the prophecies meant....also revelation the last book of the holy bible was inspired by the holy spirit to the last apostle to write down..the apostle John was somewhere around the age of 96 or 97 or 98 before he had his head cut off by the jailers..the 1st century Christian's knew nothing about the prophecies for these last days...also we are heading to a nuclear war and God is not going to allow this earth to be destroyed..I have been noticing world governments getting closer now to nuclear war than ever...God will act before a nuclear war oc curs...last I have received a number of messages that came to me that we are running out of time...
Not all religions are about "finding God." Most deny His existence.

this was an very inspirational movie about loving self no matter what color race or religion, as the almighty would want us to.
the almighty WHAT??!!

I wish this type of enthusiasm for Jesus came back in 2021, Praise Him.
I was so lucky to see this live in my teens always stuck with me
My mom had the album when I was a kid, these songs bring back memories.
52 years ago, I directed a version of this at Stonehill College in Massachussetts for the Greasepaint Players. We had a blast putting it together.
I'm not a Christian anymore, but this song still sends shivers up my spine, and gives me Christian tingles, almost enough to warm a pew again...
It's never too late Coastal. That's the Holy Spirit convicting you. Please don't be turned away. Know you are loved. Jesus died, for you. If it's someone who left a bad taste in your mouth, or a church that burned you, just know they are only human. They aren't what Jesus is all about. And if you still believe He died for you and you are a sinner saved by His grace, you are no less a Christian, just because you don't go to church or "practice". God never changes. He still loves you. Don't wait til something bad happens or you are breathing your last breath as I did, I was blessed enough to have a second chance 10/13/19. Please don't wait 🙏🙏💖

For example, how many folks under 40’s, 30’a 20’s make fun of “an old man in the sky” and Argue scientific reality and the ever present “If God exist why doesn’t he prevent suffering?” These are age old issues, nothing new
The whole point of this play is that Faith is not meant to prove the earthly validity of Beliefs, but that Faith is pure, innocent, humble and there is no need to hold it up to modern life
Faith and love is there for you, everyone is welcome God’s love is open to all
Same, I'm not religious anymore.. but still love this musical as a work of art. The music is beautiful.. and it exudes joy and positivity.
I remember going to church in the 70s & this is exactly how it was...
Long summer days and this was how our weekends were..
Sunday school was different and being part of it all felt right but politics and poverty learned how to dismantle everything this era had achieved in a heartbeat..

If you attended Catholic school in the 1970's, the Godspell soundtrack was our new hymns for church services.
Day By Day particularly for us.

Thank you for posting this. Godspell was (is) a very interesting one-man translation of the gospel (with all the limitations inherent in one-man translations), but it does an excellent job of causing us to think about what Jesus and the disciples would look like to our contemporary (or at least 1970's contemporary) society.
