Anyone who has ever kept reptiles as pets (turtles, snakes, and yes even alligators/crocodiles) knows that you don't feed them in winter, not just because they're simply not hungry or interested in food, but also because it's actually dangerous and can kill them. The low temperature during the winter means that they can hardly digest food, particularly a big meal like a human adult, and the undigested food will rot inside their stomach and likely lead to an infection that will kill the reptile. This is why reptile owners always keep a heat lamp by their pets so that if they do eat something, they have high enough of body temperature (metabolism) to digest the food safely. I don't understand Denise's self-confidence in trying to get Brian into trouble. Hasn't she heard of the Chinese proverb "dead fish, torn net"? It was very predictable that Brian, if he had to go to prison, would drag her down with him. Did she forget that they BOTH conspired to kill Mike?! Incredible. Lastly, getting a total of $1.8mil in life insurance isn't all that unreasonable for someone like Mike who was making $200k/year. It'd only take him 9 years to make that amount even without any pay raises. IMO, it's just the insurance companies being their typically greedy selves and not willing to pay out what they owe, trying to find an excuse and cast suspicion on the policies. If they're willing to take people's premiums, they should also have the guts to pay out when something bad happens to the insured. (It's the same thing with casinos kicking out people who win too much.) I don't feel sorry for them at all! The only people I feel sorry for are the daughter and Mike's parents, particularly the mom who fought tirelessly for more than a decade to find justice for her son. The parents despite their poverty worked their butts off to raise their kids and put them through college, and that's very admirable as parents, particularly those who didn't have a lot of money. They couldn't have ever imagined that their daughter-in-law would turn out to be a faithless, greedy, murderous monster. Poor Mike never suspected his wife and his "best friend" would betray him.
