    The best trout I ever had was freshly caught up in the Sierras on a camping trip. After gutting them and leaving the skin on without descaling, we put some butter inside them along with garlic salt and lemon pepper. Then, wrapped them up in aluminum and placed on a bed of coals for a few minutes. The entire fish, to include the skin, was out of this world. Outstanding knife review and video as always, bro!

    Fished all my life here in NM and never scaled a trout, no worries, if you want to that's up to you. Nice looking knife, seems to fit many task well and should do the job just fine. It's all in how you wield it eh... Tasty desert meal I'd say, looked delicious. Enjoyed this one James and the music from Cuervo, thanks to both. See ya next time.

    I won the work tuff Mt. Laguna for a monthly Patreon giveaway and everything from the thickness to the fine edge says quality so I would expect nothing less from any of their knives. I agree it is a solid bush crafter knife. I do not take the scales off trout, if you are cooking on an open flame they almost burn off depending on how hot your flame is. The crunch on those chips!

    I have eaten more trout than I can count cooked in almost as many ways and haven’t ever descaled them, come to think of it I’ve never descaled a fish of any kind. With trout the skin and scale peals right off after cooking. Great video and soundtrack as always friend!

    Great informative video! I also scale trout because I was taught that even trout scales can get caught in the throat. I appreciate your videos and I actually use the information you put out. Your video on Oregon Dungeness crabs helped me to catch my first 9 crabs in 2021 in Bandon Oregon off their pier. I also kept a claw as a souveni. Thanks again for another great video! 👍

    Most of the times I don't take the scales off, cook on the skin side but don't eat the skin itself. The kydex sheath looks very well made and I like that flat bottom so it doesn't rub through fabric. The knife misses a lanyard hole and that texture on the grip makes it more difficult to clean. I agree with the difficult price range. But it seems to perform well as an all round small camp knife.

  • @Seancmccormick
    @Seancmccormick ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Kind of a no thrills design with great capabilities. I like it! I was brought up descaling fish. Personally, I either stuff them ,and wrap in foil, or fry with a bread crumb, or flour mixture. If you don't descale them that way, and eat the skin you'll know. LOL! I bet though if one were to straight up fry with butter on a skillet it would probably cook them off. Atb Sean

    I've always scaled em, James, but recently I was told you don't have to. And honestly, I can't tell much difference. It takes 2 seconds to do it, so do it how ya wanna do it! Great video! Try a BPS knife for budget options, I have the bushmate as a first try for them.

About the knife I agree with you over priced for all the competition. My wife and I Carry the Gerber principles around camp. I believe there were no more than $65 been using them for a few years now. Hey James, I grew up in the men's of Western NC, and my dad would take me trout fishing often, we always scaled our Rainbows. I really like the knife slot, don't care much for the sheath tho, I prefer leather. Theirs a way of taking the backbone out of the fish removing the bones and leaving just the meat, done it many times. Also put ya some onions, Bell peppers and salt and pepper in those taters makes really good lol!!! Great video as always!!

    They actually gave it a higher scandi , thats what really bugs me with these thick scandi designs of late. They make the grinds way too shallow.
    You are right, the market is over saturated with these kinds of knives. At that price range, I'd rather spend a few more bucks on an LT Wright....Or much less like I just did on a Tops Tanimboca Puukko 😁
    Love me some Tops 1095hc scandiVex blades, their Brakimo won me over 4 years ago .
    That WT gear is nice but doesn't have anything that speaks to me. I love knives with charecter like your old Green River blade ...I gotta get me one of those .
