Hey 👋 James! Great job on this painting. This video is now “9 years” old. Still relevant, still instructional. I paint and while doing so wonder if it will all come together in the end. I like how you talk it out, calmly, and never seemed distressed about the outcome. I enjoy seeing the progress in action and final results. Very nice!

oh wow, that went from being super loose to a beautiful finished piece by the end so quickly!! The lines with the fountain pen really made a huge difference, especially next to the dark shadows on the brightly-lit building, it looks so three-dimensional while keeping that impressionist look to it. I enjoy watching what you choose to emphasize or leave out in a painting.

I love this art work. I have been trying to get into watercolors now. I am not a a fan of realism on watercolor because I feel it takes away the beauty of it. I like line and wash style, but I feel it can look like a cartoon. But this! This way you paint is awesome. I think I will apply it myself. Congratulations, you are extremely talented!

I really appreciated James Gurney revealing that he has trouble accurately capturing foreshortening. I'm not a veteran to drawing and I struggle to accurately capture what I'm looking at. I thought my difficulties would go away with practice, but if James still has trouble, I understand that the struggle is something even seasoned artists deal with. BTW, thanks so much for showing how you measure what you're looking at.

Great picture. Thanks for sharing all the detail of how you approach this, especially how to do the initial sketch and work out the perspective lines. Very useful indeed - I feel inspired!

Thanks for making these videos with explanation of your process. It's as if I'm taking a class from a master except it's FREE.
